Last Sunday at church Father Ron said something that hit home for me. He said that a mission begins with an invitation. I grew up in a rural area in the highlands of Nairobi, Kenya. Life was not easy and I always made a point of maximizing the opportunities I got. I grew up knowing that I wanted to be in a profession that really helped people improve their wellbeing. Hello Kiya, you have a very pretty and unique name. I am glad you have found the major you want to pursue throughout the rest of your college career. It can be difficult to decide what you want to do for the majority of your life. I was happy to have known from the beginning what I wanted to do.

Taking care of a boisterous class of first graders is not an easy task, especially for an eleven-year-old. Since the summer of 2011, I have been a teacher’s assistant at my former elementary school, Argonne. Argonne is a year-round school, and the teachers are always in need of volunteers during the busy summer months. As a volunteer, I help grade papers, file documents, chaperone field trips, teach math lessons, and even lead physical education classes. I serve as an aid in the classroom and work individually with students.

I’m proud of the essay as a whole because i spent more time on it then probably any other essay I have ever in my life. I think that it is put together chronologically. It fits the word limit. I honestly can say i’m okay with other people reading this. Most times i the peer editing because I rush on my writing. I think my thoughts were more organized because i gave myself time.

The choices one makes on the way to reach a goal can be bittersweet, as one abstains from many indulgences that bring joy, but can deviate one from the goal, set upon to accomplish. Fortunately, I find myself in such a situation, where I hope to enjoy the result, and know choices were worth the agony.

I have worked in various social care settings for over 5 years from which I gained a broad knowledge in providing professional support to service users to enable and promote independent living and fulfilment.
