"Just Because I Can't Change Everything, Doesn't Mean I Shouldn't Try To Change Anything At All"(Tim McIlrath). I believe it to be very important to have a role model, a hero whom one looks up to. Tim McIlrath, lead singer of hardcore punk band Rise Against, is mine. Listening to the politically and socially engaged lyrics he writes and the words he speaks, has been inspiring me greatly. The quote above, summarizes neatly what I can proudly announce to be what I stand for. In addition to this belief, rooted in my personality, is a certain urge to always start acting on what I see as interesting or worthwhile, as soon as I learn about it. Not taking the time to get acquainted with the subject is called impatience by some, others will shout impulsiveness. Although they are probably right, I prefer to think of it as not procrastinating. This particular trait aids me in the quest to pursue my dreams and beliefs. Hence, in the summer of 2014, an idea popped into my head. One that would change my life greatly, I knew that very second. My family and I were undertaking a relaxing vacation trip in the beautiful and inspiring Sardinia. I am not sure exactly what caused it to hit me; maybe it was the peacefulness of the goats, …show more content…
The first meal I had after the silent decision, was plant based. However, I did sin a few more times during that trip, considering not every place in Sardinia offered something compatible with my newborn lifestyle. That is what I call it, a lifestyle, because 'diet' fails to show the impact this decision has been having on my life. Beginning the day we returned to Belgium, I have been living the life of a person that refrains from eating meat. But that isn't nearly all being a vegetarian means to me. Animals should not exist with the only purpose of serving as human food, they should not be born only to be fattened and killed before their time while living in atrocious
Idols, role models, heroes: These are the people that we all look up to. As Christopher Reeve, who played the role of Superman in various movies, once said, “a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Throughout my life I have had multiple heroes, for a multitude of reasons. Helen Keller, for her ability to persevere despite the fact that she was both blind and deaf and yet was able to positively impact others. Amelia Earhart, for her bravery as the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Heidi Berry Krahn, for her incredible strength in times of hardship and her dedication and sacrifice as the founder and executive director of the Center for Animal Research and Education. People look up to their heroes, look up to their many attributes and accomplishments, and aspire to be like them. I have one hero that stands above all the rest, one that does all of the things my other
Throughout the novel, trees are symbolic of growth for Melinda. While Melinda struggles not only with being an outcast but having trouble with her assigned subject, she seeks help from Ivy, a new friend. Melinda claims “it was a mistake to sign up for art.” Ivy disagrees, and the girls “sit there trading pencils. [Melinda] draws a trunk, Ivy adds a branch. Melinda “starts to erase [her part]” but Ivy says “It is fine the way it is. It just needs some leaves, Layer the leaves and make them slightly different sizes and it will look great. [Melinda] has a great start. Melinda then says “She is right” (146). By working on her tree drawing together with Ivy, the tree is what strengthens and grows the girls’ bond as friends. Melinda’s confidence
can be a hero. One person for me is Aaron Valencia. Aaron also stated that he had to grow up fast in an environment with drugs, alcohol & physical abuse. Aaron lived a rough child hood & ended up going to rehab in 1999. He never looked back since, he opened an garage & started restoring Cars after that he started an after school program to work on restoring classic cars. I find Aaron Valencia as a role model, Thought full & kind.
Growing up I had a role model. He is the most inspirational person I have ever had the chance of meeting. He took care of me when I was sick or when my parents would have to work late into the night, and honestly I am proud to say that this inspirational person is my older brother, Trey Hampton. Not only has my brother been there for me through thick and thin he even managed to introduced me to one of my greatest passions.
People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan Savage is my hero on account of him being brave, compassionate, and unprejudiced. Considering all of the above, Dan Savage, newspaper column writer for 'The Stranger,' that started the 'It Gets Better' organization for LGBTQ+ youth, is my hero. Seeing that he holds traits that go towards my definition of the word, Hero; A leader who can stand up and care about what they believe in without other people's judgement clouding around their
Eating traditional Portuguese food was a way of connecting with my living family members and ancestors. Preparing, eating, sharing these foods, as well as sharing the stories associated with them were vital in the maintenance of my Portuguese identity. The first few months of being vegan were difficult because I struggled to fit in. Eating at the dinner table with my aunts, uncles, and cousins became an uncomfortable activity. I was constantly met with criticism, confusion, and disappointment. I was also pressured, from several family members, to return to my past ways of eating. I could no longer share in the experience of eating these traditional foods with my family. They felt like I was rejecting them, which was definitely not the case.
There’s one famous person that comes to mind who represents myself as a good role model and that person is Jim Carrey. He played in one movie, which is called Liar Liar, and to this day the movie has always held a strong meaning to me. The movies he has played in has always brought me joy and laughter. Jim has throughout the years stood up for many causes and is an avid supporter of charities. These are the reasons why I look up to Jim Carrey as a role model.
I would have to say my role model would be Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood cares about the world and the people in it.
In Whale Rider the character of Pai broke through her assigned gender role and prevailed in what would otherwise be an entirely male-dominated path of spirituality. While Whale Rider could certainly be identified as a feminist film regarding the “male-centered universe” that Hollywood has created, Whale Rider could also simply be seen as a women’s story about women. Pai is just a young girl seeking to prove herself and to prove that a woman can be a prophet as well.
Having people to look up to is an important thing to have in life. Some may choose to follow rockstars while others decide to follow people in politics. Two role models that I know are Mr. O’malley, and Jack Henzes. My role model that I do not know personally is Bill Nye.
The song I chose “I’m Not The Only One” by Sam Smith relates perfectly towards Ed from “Man Descending”. A common theme, which relates to both Ed and “Im Not The Only One”, is cheating on a significant other. The slow beat and emotional message of “Im Not The Only One” gives the listener an emotional setting similar to Ed’s situation. The lyric “When you call me baby
I have never been a person who admires and seeks inspiration from quotes and that goes for most aspects of my life. There is no one famous or even in my family that I look up to and aspire to be. For the greater part of my life, I have seeked myself for inspiration. “Be your own hero” is my favorite quote because it means to be the person who have always wanted to look up to. I have never met anyone who is like me or has the same life like me. For someone to be my hero I want them to be like me, for instance, they would have to be Mexican, a leader, a woman, and independent. I have learned to inspire myself. I make the qualities of who I want to be by being and not seeing. The qualities I look for in a hero are strong, independent, intelligent,
Have you ever had someone that you look up to? Well, most people in the world do have role models. Whether it is a family member, a friend, or just a great person, role models are phenomenal things for people to have. Role models can help you strive for greatness, or make you yearn to be an overall better person. One individual that I look up to is Derek Jeter because he lived a life full of adversity, he attacks challenges with ferocity, and he performs under intense pressure.
I look up to people who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe and speak their mind no matter what others have to say, People who chase their dreams and don’t let anything or anyone get in there way, and people who don’t give up or change their mind when it gets too hard. I believe if you really set your mind to something you can achieve anything because nothing can
Many people have a person that they look up to and who encourages them. It's someone who I think doesn't give up and gets back up when they fall down, who has an impact to other people around them and they work for what they have earned. A person that is a role model to me is a man named Kobe Bryant. He is a basketball player that accomplished many things in his career. He was also born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Biography Today 44). He is someone who overtime has shown persistence and courage throughout his career in basketball. Kobe Bryant was a role model and inspiring basketball player that had a great legacy in the NBA.
