It’s safe to assume people prejudge others based on their titles in society. As Gordon Korman demonstrates with his book The Juvie Three, full of pre judging and titles. Juvenile delinquents, is perceived as “a kid who was neglected and raised wrong”. Although that can be accurate, it can also be completely inaccurate. As everyone has a story to tell about how the ended up where they’re at.
Gecko titled as a juvenile delinquent, escape driver. Is an example of how wrong people prejudge others. Even though he won the heart of others, once they learned of his mistakes. They’re mindset of him completely changed. As his significant other Roxanne even questioned herself about her love for him. Quoting, “Surely I can’t be wrong about something the

Which can also be true, then again maybe not. As the three “Juvenile Delinquents” show up at their living quarters, Terence being one of them, makes an assumption of the “Rich Girl”. Quoting “Yeah, people really do live like this. It’s not just on America’s Most Wanted.” (p221) However, Roxanne titled “The Daughter Of A Millionaire” didn’t make any known notion about the place and was prejudged.
Arjay titled as a “Juvenile Delinquent” didn’t mean to obtain that title. Which doesn’t matter because, people will prejudge based on prior knowledge and feelings. Without even taking the time to understand the situation. Arjay is convicted of manslaughter, he said, “I hit him, and he didn’t get up.” (p15) Now something like that should not go unpunished, but how does that describe his personality? As most will think, not very good….
“Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” As many have heard this before, it stands very true. Which means you shouldn’t prejudge. However, that didn’t stop Miss Lebowitz from pre judging her new juvenile delinquency neighbors Gecko, Terence, and Arjay. It’s understandable why however, they gave her no reason to speculate. Eventually she grew close to them as she defended them against a group of teens in a gang. Pouring water down on them saying, “I’ve dialed nine-one-one and I’m about to push the send button! You get out of here and leave my buys
The Juvenile Delinquents Act brought some positive impacts on many young people who went through the juvenile justice system. However, many flaws appeared in this Act after a period of time. "Under the JDA, there were a number of differences in provincial prohibitions, variations in maximum age limits, and a wide range of financial commitment" (Covell & Howe, 1996, p.346). The juvenile offender under this law, which built a level of discretionary regime, had few rights with regards to the welfare. In addition, according to Makarenko, there was another limit of this act – the law did not charge against children by defining different circumstances, instead, it charged children with delinquency. The law offered judges with a great deal of rights in sentencing juvenile delinquents (2007, p.2).
Gecko was first seen as a good driver while racing go karts and his brother saw him and made him be his getaway driver. That's one obstacle but his large obstacle, is that while in juvie he thought he was going to get beat up in the laundry room. That's why he accepted to go to the halfway house, he was afraid of getting beat up. "He made the decision at right now-- today. To avoid a return visit to that laundry room, he'll happily follow this unperson to the end of the earth." (p.13) Gecko was also a strict rule follower because he did not want to be put back in juvie and not only juvie... the laundry

All of them committed horrible crimes that got them in there but one person wants them out of there his name is Douglas Healy. Douglas took these kids in and saved them. In the article “On Punishment and Teen Killers” by Jennifer Jenkins asserts that teens are becoming more violent and starting commit more crimes because of the national television they watch.Jenkins tells the reader about “JLWOP” (Juvenile Life Without Parole) and how kids are being sentenced to life in prison without parole. Some people are trying to advocate to minimize the offender culpability because of their age. While kids are getting sentenced to life without parole, this disproves juvenile advocates reliance on the undeveloped brain. Some juvenile offenders truly understand what the victim family go through and how long it takes them to recover. There were millions of dollars spent to end JLWOP and to set convicted murderers free.
Stereotyping and naming can be extremely terrible towards any individual. This is on account of other individuals may judge rapidly or accept something
Garinger was a former juvenile court judge, so Garinger is a very credible source when it comes to the topic of juvenile criminals. To support Garinger’s credible usage of ethos, he demonstrates that in 2005, Supreme Court acknowledged that even though juveniles have committed terrible crimes such as homicide “juvenile offenders cannot with reliability be classified among the worst offenders” (6). This technique of providing the opinions of Supreme Court helps build Garinger’s credibility, and even more so that he is was a former juvenile court judges, so he most likely has a personal relationships with the Supreme Court. Readers feel sympathy to any juvenile who have been charged as adults and been sentenced to life without parole.
(oxford dictionaries) so being assertive with the children who act this way to try to make them refrain from the behavior, that may result in earlier curfews, or making these offenders go to boot camp.
Every process has room for improvement, but the juvenile justice system can be altered by adding in possible solutions of what can be done to help this problem in American society. About 100 years ago, juveniles were always tried as adults. Now, that the government has altered the system for the better, the government knows that trying juveniles as adults is not always justified. It depends on the crime, but the majority of the time, juveniles are often always tried as juveniles, based solely on their age. Not only that has changed; the process of juvenile justice has changed as well to better help the juveniles in the system. The rights of juveniles in the system have changed so that the children can improve their lives once they are out of the system. Even though the process has changed and the rights have improved for the juveniles, there are still many improvements to be made. Studies show that recidivism rates are in fact going down, but the rate can always be better so that juveniles do not return to a life of crime.
In a crowded jury room in downtown New York, opinions collide as discussion about the innocence of a young boy is decided. The dark and foreboding storm clouds that hang over the heads of the jurors are beginning to lift as time progresses and new facts are presented. One juror is not happy about this stay of execution and is holding fast his opinion of guilty. Juror three, the president of his business, refuses to alter his vote or opinion in any way. Still haunted by his own son, juror three verbally assaults the group with a forceful tone and a taciturn attitude. One of twelve, Reginald Rose created them all from the same pen and ink, and they could all be no more different.
But change that to an eight year old boy and his friends, and everyone’s opinion changes. They want to coddle the children and blame the violence on the parents, video games or social media. How does one word, juvenile, change the world’s mind so quickly-because it is in human’s nature to care for the young. People see children as clay to be melded into the perfect model of a person. When these children do something bad, they see the molder to be at fault. It is like they have they never seen a child misbehave when they are “molded” well. Children have their own brains and ideas. These ideas are their own and they are not only based on others in lives. The important thing is to see that juveniles are not children, “In the words of one 'get-tough' advocate, juvenile offenders are criminals who happen to be young, not children who happen to be criminal’” (ABC News). This perfectly sums up what juvenile crime is. It is not about the child, it is about the victim. If a juvenile is capable of committing a crime and planning it out, they should be tried for it. In one case, a boy murdered a woman after breaking into her house and her seeing his face. Instead of acting innocent, he was proud of what he had done, “Simmons wasn’t modest about what he had done; to the contrary, he had
juvenile delinquency is most likely to have a negative impact on society. The second characteristic is that if the hostility towards “youths” increases, they will eventually become “folk devils” therefore creating a division (Cohen 1973:16). The third is a form of consensus although concern is not nationwide; there should be global acceptance that the youths pose a threat to society. The fourth characteristic is formed up of disproportionality and the action taken is disproportionate to the actual threat posed by the accused group. The final characteristic is instability; moral panics are highly volatile and tend to disappear as quickly due to a lack of public interest or other rising news reports (Goode and Ben-Yehuda 1994:57).
There are many similarities and differences between the adult and juvenile justice systems. Although juvenile crimes have increased in violence and intensity in the last decade, there is still enough difference between the two legal proceedings, and the behaviors themselves, to keep the systems separated. There is room for changes in each structure. However, we cannot treat/punish juvenile offenders the way we do adult offenders, and vice versa. This much we know. So we have to find a way to merge between the two. And, let’s face it; our juveniles are more important to us in the justice system. They are the group at they
Serious crimes such as murder, burglary and rape have raised questions as to whether the young offenders should face severe punitive treatment or the normal punitive measures in juvenile courts. Many would prefer the juveniles given harsh punishment in order to discourage other young people from engaging in similar activities and to serve as a lesson to these particular offenders. However, results from previous studies indicate such punitive measures were neither successful nor morally acceptable. Instead, the solutions achieved have unfairly treated the youths and compromised the society status (Kristin, page 1).
Many young adolescents who have committed horrendous crimes have been a huge topic amongst the Supreme Court. Whether young adolescents are viewed as innocent, naive children to the public, this not changed the fact they can commit brutal crimes. In spite of the fact that adolescents have committed brutal crimes such as murder, one needs to understand that their brains are not as fully developed as an adult brain would be. Adolescents should not be trialed to a life sentence or attend adult prisons; however, they should be punished for their actions and undergo rehabilitation programs to help them be prepared to fit in with the rest of society.
Juvenile Delinquency is the participation of illegal behavior by a minor who falls under a statutory age limit. A delinquent is a minor who commits a crime or a status offense. A status offense is conduct that is illegal only because the child is under age i.e. smoking cigarettes (Senna 10, 20). The cases of Eric Smith, Lionel Tate, and an unidentified NJ child are similar only because, they are guilty of killing another child, but the Criminal Justice System treated and punished them very differently. In August 1993 in Savona, New York 13 year old Eric Smith killed 4 year old Derrick Robie. Smith lured Robie into the woods and strangled, beat with large rocks, and sodomized Robie. Smith was questioned by police and kept changing some
