ion For my interview I contacted a general practitioner at Kaiser Permanente in hopes of not only learning about the traditional treatments and information, but also for data and prevention facts on Alzheimer's to further understand Kaiser’s methods and the impact it tends to have. I wanted to use this interview as a method to gain insight on my developed questions, as well as a basis for my further development. I geared the first part of my interview towards understanding the measures that average people take towards the prevention and the medication that they get. I was able to understand that people with Alzheimer’s have to learn to accept that their Alzheimer’s would only worsen, as I was told that there is no cure, but only medication
When it comes to Alzheimer’s, I know firsthand how it affects individuals and their families. My great grandfather had Alzheimer’s for many years before his passing late last year, at age 92. Alzheimer’s is a disease that many individuals suffer with each year, but yet with all the advancements in modern medicine we still have no cure for it. There are different ways to conquer this disease, understanding the causes, knowing effects, and researching possible treatments.
By the numbers, Alzheimer’s disease looks even worse than it may be. The cost of Alzheimer’s overwhelms the caregiver and everyone involved with the patient. The price businesses pay for Alzheimer’s it detrimental to their industry, show by “A 2002 study showed that United States businesses lost $36.5 billion that year because employees missed work or quit and had to be replaced so that they could care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease” (Adams 24). The caregivers play vital roles in the lives of the sufferer, but the business take an even heavier loss. Heath care is necessary for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, however it can get expensive “The costs of
The Licensed Practical Nurse said that the education that she obtained prepared her for the various facets of her job. It was more helpful in some aspects of my job than it is in others jobs. With the shortage of medical doctors, the LPN and the nurse are playing a larger role in patient care. Because demand for LPN's is strong and growing, you often have your choice of full-time jobs. LPN positions are available in hospitals, nursing homes, doctors' offices, and home health care. The annual salary of a LPN can reach $45,000 plus benefits, depending on your responsibilities. You can choose your work
A major devastating and debilitating disease, Alzheimer 's is a public health issue that affects not only the United States but also countries all around the world. In 2010, there were 35.6 million people living with Alzheimer’s. Researchers and medical personnel expect this number to triple by the year 2050. The disease is costing America an exorbitant amount of money and has become a burden on families, caregivers, medical personnel, the healthcare system, and the nation’s economy. If attention is not focused on this major problem, “nursing homes will be overloaded, caregivers will be burned out, healthcare system will be overwhelmed, and federal and state budgets will be overtaxed” (Alzheimer’s Association, 2011).
Kaiser Permanente s a company that was registered to deliver healthcare services to individuals who are geographically distributed. The organization is dedicated to increasing the medical quality for its members and their immediate environment. The firm has been operating for sixty years, it evolved from programs that were operating in the industrial sector especially shipyards, construction, and steel mill workers in the late 1930s (Kaiser, 2015). In 1945 it was opened for the enrolment of the public who wanted to get their services. The enterprise started with one surgeon and a hospital that had twelve beds in Mojave Desert. The managing director (MD), Sidney Garfield, observed the young people who were involved in different development projects. The MD took a loan to cater for his expenses as he started building the Project of Colorado River Aqueduct since he noticed an opportunity. As the operations begun, most individuals were not in a position of
This a follow up to our meeting on Friday, March 18, 2016. At that time, you and I discussed together the results of the random chart review accessing the clinical quality of care being provided to Kaiser Permanente members at the UCCS Health Circle Primary Care Clinic. No major concerns were identified and the care delivered is considered to meet clinically acceptable
A career in the health care field is a growing profession. Unlike many different avenues of career choices, the health care field is projected to grow rapidly in many years to come. When a person decides to obtain a health care position they are able to literally live anywhere and still be able to find a job. There are numerous options of working anytime that fits into the daily routine of a person’s schedule. Also, the choice of deciding whether or not to work alone or work on team, depending on which path is chosen.
Mr. Hernandez has never felt unwelcome when he or his family were in a healthcare facility. He says that he trusts most doctors and nurses and feels a sense of relief when he is around them for services. The Hernandez family goes to their family doctor for regularly scheduled check-ups and also go to the dentist for regular cleanings and other care. He does not believe in any complimentary alternative medicines such as acupuncture, acupressure, or aromatherapy. There are no home difficulties which he can identify which might prevent him or his family from receiving health care.
In this Chapter, we discussed the six pillars of Alzheimer’s prevention. Throughout the week, the great leader has built these “pillars” to help us understand and comprehend the greatness of preventing Alzheimer’s in the distant future.
Health care needs become more challenging every day; in fact, it is one of the biggest problems the American economy faces today. However, within the next 20 years the population of adults ages sixty-five and older is expected to increase and “age is the key factor for development in later life” (Dilworth-Anderson, Pierre & Hilliard, 2012, p. 27). Recent studies have shown there are approximately 5.3 million Americans that have Alzheimer’s disease and it is expected to increase over
Is a born team player equipped with matchless ability to establish positive and lasting relationships with people of diverse backgrounds?
From conducting my interview with Mr. Barcellona, I learned three important aspects of health care finance that I was not aware of before. Firstly, I now understand that having soft skills is just as valuable as having technical skills in finance. What differentiates you from other non-successful financial managers is your ability to communicate, delegate, and direct people around you. You should surround yourself with people you can learn from and, more importantly, learn with. I want to create an environment where my employees have the freedom to be wrong as long as they learn from their mistakes.
We are a different breed. Sometimes seen as crass or non-empathetic towards some. But when you go from a dying child or cardiac arrest to someone who came in by ambulance for ankle pain they have had for 15 min sometimes we have a hard time controlling our emotions.
The Alzheimer’s Association is a nonprofit association formed in 1980 by Jerome H. Stone and several representatives from several family support groups. The organization tries to address and bring awareness to a growing problem within our aging population, which is the development of Alzheimer’s and dementia in the senior population. On the official Alzheimer’s Associations website they explain their mission and purpose which is “ to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care for all affected; and to reduce dementia through promotion of brain health.” (ALZ.org, n.d.). Although Alzheimer’s and dementia can develop in earlier stages of a person’s life and there have been documented cases
In the Kaiser Permanente case, to understand the causes of and contributors to mortality, the system Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals leveraged the data in their system to find mortality rates by clinical condition. Specifically, they used the International Classification of Diseases, ninth Revision ICD-9 coding system as a way to organize the rate of mortality by disease. The ICD-9 codes were used as a key-value identifier of different the different types of diseases that a patient may have a diagnosis for. From there, the ICD-9 codes were then reorganized individual insurance codes into broader clinical bins, which supported the analysis of patients by clinical conditions. This information likely was extracted from the databases of Kaiser Permanente’s Electronic Health Record systems, where they pulled out data on either the “primary visit reason” or “primary diagnosis” from each visit. As noted in the report by Basel Kayyali, the ability to capture the large amounts of data from the Electronic Health Record systems is enabled by an integrated technology system facilitates the collaboration between the many hospitals via the exchange of information.
