In the sixth grade, my friends and I were infatuated with video games, particularly Call of Duty. At the age of 11 and 12, my rank in a video game was more important than the band I was in. I loved music since the third grade, and the band had started when I was in the fourth grade, but looking back, it wasn’t a passion at the time, more like a phase. Not putting my full attention in music at that age is my biggest regret in life. However, if I hadn’t been on PlayStation I would have never had the music conversation with a gaming friend that changed my life.
Transformative qualities are an essential aspect of deciding the applicability of fair use when borrowing from copyrighted works. Transformative equates to works that step beyond the replication of a copyrighted work. This can be accomplished by changing the purpose and adding artistic value to the new creation. Through the incorporation of a new purpose and character, consideration of the minimal portion used of the copyrighted work, and inspection of the lack of effect on the market of the original work, it is conclusive that Kanye West’s “Champion” falls under the protection of fair use when taking into account its incorporation of Steely Dan’s “Kid Charlemagne.” West uses a
“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you…I’ll let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” (West). Most people if they don’t know anything about Kanye West, they know this quote. When anybody hears his name everybody always has an opinion. Some people love him, while a lot of other people hate him, each for a variety of reasons. Though most people only see the arrogant and egotistic side of Kanye, the more important side that people don’t always see is the hardworking musician. In order to fully understand Kanye’s motives and to fully appreciate him, people have to know how he got to the point he is now today.
Kanye West is not just your ordinary guy when it comes to fashion. He's really something that you're going to deal like no other, and it's freaking awesome! For now, it looks like Kanye West has gone a major outburst on his own regarding the recent Yeezy fashion show. It seems that he didn't like what he saw in the fashion show. Some of the models aren't comfortable in doing catwalk with their ill-fitting shoes. Some of them have fainted during the New York fashion show, which shows a lot of concern for the rapper. Kanye West, the husband of Kim Kardashian (who recently lost her jewelry and 2 iPhones for more than 10 million euros in her Paris residence), has no choice but to fire his 30 staff through his agent. Not only that, he is just getting rid of his phone in order for them to contact him only via email and not through immediate calls.
Another great example of this comes from another College Dropout song, “All Falls Down”. Kanye says “We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom”. (West, All Falls Down)With this he seems to be saying that while money can buy a top of the line attorney to keep him out of jail, all the money in the world cannot buy African Americans social equality. Again however he says nothing about taking action, he just points out the problem. At this point in his life and career Kanye seems to be have a sort of passive aggressive attitude regarding racism, he understands the problem and recognizes it but doesn’t seem to feel that fighting back is the best way to deal with it. This sentiment is echoed by many throughout the African American community, including one of the most famous civil rights activists of all time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a 1957 speech entitled “Justice without violence”, in which he discusses solutions to the problem of inequality, Dr. King said “It seems to me that there are two possible answers to this question. One is to use the all [too] prevalent method of physical violence . . . And we all know the danger of this method. It seems to create many more social problems than it solves.” (King Jr.)Dr. King argued until his death in 1967 for a non-violent resolution to racism and had tens of millions of supporters behind him across the United States. Like Dr. King and his many supporters Kanye seems at this
Kanye West first started off as hip-hop beatmaker and producer from Chicago. A lot of people pass on Kanye because they only seen him as a producer and not a rapper. Then he meet Jay-z and still Jay-z only saw him as a producer, but allowed Kanye to express his musical gift. He got his chance after he was in a near fatal car crash. He recorded “Through The Wire” with his mouth wired shut. Ever since then, Kanye has been a success. Kanye Wes has receive over 352 nomination and won 89 of them. He has one 21 Grammy awards. His breakout season is when Kanye West earned an amazing ten nominations at the 47th annual Grammy Awards. The College Dropout won the Best Rap Album award. "Jesus Walks" won Best Rap Song. Alicia Keys and Kanye
West and his comments on free thinkers, President Trump, and slavery Wednesday May 2nd 2018. They sourced the material from a TMZ interview. CNN covered the backlash the public had on his take on slavery. They used the hashtag IfSlaveryWasAChoice. CNN agrees with the public on that Mr. West should not of said what he said about slavery and that he is very wrong. Again this news source only uses select moments from the TMZ interview and they exclude most of the explanation from Mr. West. This CNN article goes into detail about Mr. Wests music and how it ties into his personality, his self reflectiveness on his song Love Kanye saying he also misses the old Kanye to mock his fans. CNN uses tweets from members from the African American community making sarcastic comments about slavery being a choice furthering their opinions on Mr. Wests comments. The only thing left out is the rebuttal Mr. West had seconds after his famous quote “When you hear about slavery for 400 years -- for 400 years? That sounds like a
Kanye West has been an icon in American hip-hop culture for over a decade. His music, fashion line, producing skills, and flamboyant personality has influenced many people for generations to come. Coming out of Chicago, many people in the music industry didn't even think Kanye had a chance to become a figure in hip-hop, but his hard work and persistence paid off. Kanye started off his music career as a producer. He produced music for the likes of major artists such as Common and Jay-Z. His first major breakthrough came from producing Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint”— which is certified 2x platinum. Kanye believed he could be a successful rapper as well, but music executives didn't believe he had it in him. That all changed when Roc-A-Fella records signed Kanye to their label, and gave him a chance to shine as a rapper. Kanye’s background, critical analysis, and importance all shows that he has become one of the most important characters in American hip-hop culture to this day.
Kanye West is the definition of controversy. From his humble beginnings all the way to his grandiose luxury rap. He is the first person to tell you that he deserves his wealth and fame, and he truly does. Kanye West became involved in the hip hop scene in Chicago as a teen, where he crossed paths with No I.D., a producer who quickly picked up Kanye as a student, and thus started Kanye’s career as a producer. Making beats for local artists, he eventually developed a unique style that changed the face of hip hop. By adding samples of soul music, he was picked up quickly as a full time producer, and at the age of nineteen, he earned his first production credit on the debut album of a Chicago rapper, Grav. From there, he struggled to break into the mainstream throughout the late 90s, producing beats just to keep the lights on. At 20, he dropped out of college to focus on his musical work. His big break happened in 2000, where he began to produce for Roc-A-Fella Records, with influential artists such as Jay-Z on board. Kanye is credited with bringing Jay-Z’s career back to the limelight, with his production values on “The Blueprint,” which is often ranked as one of the greatest hip hop records. This success created an incredible amount of interest in West as a producer. Producing as an in-house producer at Roc A Fella, he also produced hit singles for artists such as Ludacris, Alicia Keys, and Janet Jackson.
Kanye West has been making headlines in the news (Donald Trump is making bigger one's). He recently announced his run for presidency in 2020. I got to hand it to him the man knows how to put on a show. Kanye also has a new color way dropping the "black" ADIDAS YEEZY BOOST 350.
Regardless of the quick resolve, coverage on the story, no matter on what news outlet, mention Kanye West more times throughout the writings than they do Wiz Khalifa. Most of the photos associated with the issue has Kanye West’s face posted to it. Many of the infamous memes and gifs that we all know and love are being made at the expense of Wiz Khalifa. Clearly there is a common understanding the Kanye came out on top and is the “more important” of the two, however, is that because that’s what the public believes the outcome to be, or because that is the way that media portrays
The music movie is an expression of Kanye having a hard time being himself when he is constantly being torn apart and alienated by the world around him. During a drive by himself, he witnesses a beautiful Pheonix fall from the sky in a ball of fire. He takes her home tries to give her his lifestyle, but in the end, he realizes once she leaves that he no longer wants his lifestyle either and runs away from it.
Throughout Kanye West’s prolific career, he has always possesses a intricate sound that has separated him from his hip-hop counterparts during the early twenty first century. After the explosion and phenomenal praise he received on his breakout album, College Dropout, it was no surprise that Kanye West would perform the same with his second album. West presented a innovative and soulful sound to the hip-hop industry, garnishing fans ears and hearts. With lyrics that discussed themes of poverty, drug abuse, and domestic issues, and samples that provided a sense of nostalgia, Kanye West was steadily transforming into a political icon far beyond the means of his artistry. With such empowering and sincere lyrics, Kanye West served as the voice of historically marginalized people who often were stripped from their voices. In the song Drive Slow, West’s guidance and empowering message remained evident, as he joined forces with GLC and Paul Wall to create a soulful and mellow that helped to get people through with their day. Through the use of suggestive details, figurative language, vivid storytelling, and repetition, West utilizes automobile culture to metaphorically assert how individuals can achieve success of every field of human endeavor through constant efforts in right direction. In addition, he also attempts to convey that one must “drive slow” in a car in order to appreciate the environment that consists outside of the automobile. West creates a double entendre of the word
In Greek mythology, the Mousai are the goddesses of music. In various Native American tribes, Kokopelli signifies musical sound. Also, The Egyptian goddess of music is Hathor. And last, but not least there’s the self-proclaimed god of music Kanye west. No matter the time period certain musical names are respected even if you’ve never heard a single song from them. For example, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Jimmy Hendrix are well known and, for the most part, considered in the top ten artists of all time. However, making good music does not lead to instant success. An artist must create a fan base, continuously release high-quality music, and have some social impact. Kanye West is one of the most influential artists of all time due to his musical variation, critically acclaimed awards, and cultural impact.
College Dropout was Kanye West's debut album and in my opinion was his best yet. The album cover features Kanye West in a bear costume sitting on some wooden bleachers surrounded by a rustic cherub ridden, floral boarder. This image stands out to me in a lot of good ways. I like the boarder a lot and I think baby angels are very cute and are meant to symbolize Kanyes' art school back round. Kanye says that the album cover is meant to say that people do not always have to follow what society thinks that they should. The drop out bear mascot he named himself and is supposed to iconize this rebellious album and attitude towards the world and its institutions. Kanye had a lot of help from Eric Duvauchelle who is now a design director at Nike. Kanye West was in a car accident in October of two-thousand and three. This very serious accident motivated him to become a world star rapper because at the time he was only a producer in Chicago but had worked on some very famous peoples records such as Jay-Z. I really like the cover because it is elegant, classy, and it says a lot about him bursting onto the rap scene in a not so typical manner.
