Throughout time artists try to look for a new way to make their name sound or for their voice to be hear. Kanye West is a clear example of this; with phrases like this one, “I am God's vessel. But my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live,” Kanye West said to a reporter. Expressions like this characterize the 39 year old rapper; producer, song writer and now fashion designer. Much more expressions like the one above have guided us to analyze the different characteristics that make Kanye West portray such vain and egocentric personality.

What does a person have to do to be considered an epic hero? Do they have to save the world? Do they have to have super powers? Well, in reality, not exactly. There are many different kinds of heros in many different types fields. Sports, technology, art, etc. Some people have heroic traits that are not seen in plain sight. Kanye West was a person that lived an average lifestyle until he decided to start a music career. He became an epic hero for the music industry. More specifically, rap. Kanye West embodies the characteristics of an epic hero because he is capable of deeds of great strength and courage, is a great warrior, and travels over a vast setting.

The hip-hop culture began in the streets of New York City during the 1970’s and has gone through tremendous changes up until now. Hip-Hop consists of four elements: rap, graffiti, break-dancing, and the disc jockey. In this paper, I intend to fully explain the evolution of rap music, from its infancy to the giant industry it is today.

When anybody hears his name everybody always has an opinion. Some people love him, while a lot of other people hate him, each for a variety of reasons. Though most people only see the arrogant and egotistic side of Kanye, the more important side that people don’t always see is the hardworking musician. In order to fully understand Kanye’s motives and to fully appreciate him, people have to know how he got to the point he is now today.

Hip Hop was birthed in the neighborhood, where young people gathered in parks, on playgrounds, and neighborhood street corners, to verbalize poetry over spontaneous sounds and adopted melodies. Hip Hop was not just the music; it was also a way for the young to show their skills in break dancing, gymnastic dance style that was valued, and athleticism over choreographed fluidity. Hip hop was also fashion such as: hats, jackets, gold chains, and name-brand sneakers. Hip Hop was a form of graffiti, to a new way of expression that engaged spray paint on the subway walls as the canvas. “Power” is a song that was released in Kanye West’s 2010 album called “My Beautiful Dark Twister Fantasy.” This particular song is one of my favorite songs of all times because it gives me a combination of eustress and distress as well. The song is extremely upbeat, which often leads me to dance and smile while singing the lyrics. In addition, the first verse of this song empowers me because it states that the singer is living in the 21st century trying to live his life and impact society bigger than anyone. Throughout history, the biggest reforms in government, philosophy, and behavior have been made by freethinking and outspoken people. People such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela changed the world with their actions and words. While others, including Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Walt Disney implement their talents to business to change the world. All are spoken highly of and are highly regarded. One name that is wrongly not considered for this list is Kanye West. Kanye West is an intelligent person whose actions and outbursts, despite the media’s attempts to make them look incoherent and uncivilized, actually come from a place of goodwill and promote a platform of free thinking.

It has been 30 years since Hip-Hop was first “introduced” to the world. Whether it be fashion or politics, this musical genre/culture plays a huge role in everyday life and has generated billions of dollars across the globe. In this paper I will be discussing when, where, and how Hip-Hop was created, “old school Hip-Hop, “Hip-Hop’s Golden Age”, “Hardcore rap” “Gangsta rap”, “G-Funk”, 21st century Hip-Hop, and how Hip-Hop affects society.
