Since I was in the 10th grade, I knew I wanted to pursue my education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University for nursing. Furthermore, my first college visit on MVNYOU day confirmed my decision. I greatly treasure the close knit community and the Christian based morals. To get a head start on my journey, my sophomore year I applied and was accepted into the Career and Technology Education Center of Licking County for Clinical Care (C-TEC), a nursing based program. In the duration of my last two years of high school, instead of simply graduating with my diploma, I graduated with my STNA, CET, CPT, CPCT, and my CPhT. Registered Nurses have a lot of responsibilities and other jobs, the career I chose is a NICU Nurse. They work in the rooms with babies to monitor any complications, but mostly premature babies. I chose this career because I love babies and I would love to be the reason why a baby got better. This career will be a great fit for my life goals because I’ve always wanted to be a nurse and I love working with babies so why not put both the things I love into one.

Nursing is a complex and ever changing field full of new areas to advance, learn, and grow in. Some of the institutes available for nursing studies are Harkum College and West Chester University. Kristine Balay, the nurse I interviewed, attended Harkum College for her Associates degree in Nursing and she attended West Chester University for her Bachelors degree in Nursing. She has been practicing as a nurse for about 10 years now in various settings. When she was working on a trauma unit she was required to obtain an ALS certification, Kristine admits that she was grateful for obtaining this certification because it sets her apart from others in regards to job opportunities and promotions as well as gives her confidence in situations.

Growing up with high expectations my mind has always been set on the idea of college. However when thinking of the “right” college for my future, I never knew If I would be able to fully commit and choose which one was best for me. I wanted something that would be comfortable for me that also meets my criteria that would make the college transition a bit easier. Since I’m going into something new, my decision would end up being based on the class sizes, the costs being affordable, the majors and degrees available for Nursing, and the location and how close it is to my family. It was a hard decision however one school had it all, which is why I’ve decided to further this chapter of my life at West Texas A&M University.

Lindenwood Universitys nursing program is two years long therefore I could get my degree pretty fast. However, I don't learn as fast as others and I am afraid I might have a hard time learning all that I need to. Missouri State and St. Louis Universitys nursing programs are both four year programs therefore, I would have plenty of time to understand all of the criteria that I need to know. On the down side, I fear that it’s too long of a program for me to stay interested

The institution that I have decided to attend is the University of Central Florida. The main reason why I chose this school was because it will help me save money and I won’t need to travel anywhere to get my degree. Another big reason as to why I chose this school is because they have many great programs that will help me be better prepared when I begin my career such as their Modeling, Stimulation, and Training Epicenter which is used to prepare nursing students with different types of scenarios that they might face while working and also helps them work hands on rather than watching someone else do the job. My ideal future outcome is to get my Associate of Science Nursing by 2019 or 2020 and dive right into my career right after I graduate. In order to achieve this, I would like to keep my job that works according to my schedule, and supports me throughout my college years so that I can focus on school and not have to worry about my financial stability, be with my husband for the rest of my life will be perfect. Ideally, I want to control all aspects of my life.

     I have looked at many colleges. I find myself lucky to be in Grand Forks, North Dakota. UND is an amazing school, with a highly recommended nursing program. North Dakota is one of the only states left that require a four year nursing degree. I looked in to going to the tech but decided that it was not the right choice for me since I am planning to stay in North Dakota. This would mean I would have to work in minnesota or take a job in North Dakota and work under a different title with less pay and benefits. Another benefit that accompanies going to a four year nursing program is if i wanted to higher my education it would be in my best interest to have the extra two years behind me.
