Keeping up with the Joneses For many when they think monsters they think of killers, rapist, or thieves but sometimes monster can come in the form of something a little less intimidating but still have the potentiality to eradicate and damage a society. One must realize the sometimes monsters are not that thing in your closet or under your bed or in a scary movie, but they are the ones that we see every day in every magazine, blog, and commercial. They are the ones with the biggest platform to potentially help society but instead decide to fill it with negativity and lies. No regular woman looks like that and not all women can afford to look like that but women are still attempting to live up to this standard by going to plastic surgeons. In fact, Plastic surgery has increased tremendously due to reality shows, such as the Kardashians, depicting that the persons perfectly shaped and sculpted body is 100% real. Viewers are taking this and running with it. They are going to get all types of work to mock the look of these people who truly mocked the beautifully sculpted bodies of people of different cultures. Overall, what women need to realize is that if we continue to glorify this, famous for being famous, family then we are going to pass these insecurities on to the next generation. The Kardashians insecurities are reflected through their theme of continuously altering their looks. Subsequently, they are creating false expectations that viewers cannot achieve but continuously attempt to reach. They are not just copying the looks but they are attempting to mock the culture. The Kardashians are repeat offenders of cultural appropriation, which “entails a majority group taking something form a marginalized, minority ethnic group, often for frivolous reasons or financial gain.” ( 7 Things the Internet Needs to Learn about Kylie Jenner and Cultural Appropriation.). The Kardashians are known for their imitation of black culture. Not to long ago, Julee Wilson, of HuffingtonPost.com, exposed a magazine company for naming Kendall Jenner fashionista of the week for “taking braids to a whole new level.” All she had was cornrows, a simple style used by blacks for centuries. In an attempt to seem cultured the Kardashian clan ridicules other cultures. Another example is when Kylie Jenner admitted she had lip filler, Kylie got lots of praise, she even got credited for starting a new trend of fuller lips. Once again this is already apart of someone else culture. Niki McGloster, from Elitedaily.com, stated that while Kylie received praise for “ballooning her lips with collagen fillers,” the African American girls who have had full luscious lips their whole life got made fun of and teased.
