Kisses from Katie is an incredible, inspirational book. It allowed me to see the world from a different perspective. I always knew Africa, as a continent was a poor country. Katie helped me realize the good and bad that this continent, specifically Uganda, has to offer. She mentions in her book, in the beginning chapters, that the children of Uganda are rich in one aspect in life. That aspect that these children carry and perceive is the aspect to love God at all times. Katie goes on to say, that in the United States she doesn’t see that too often. Katie’s experiences in Uganda prove and show how blessed she truly is to have a call, or opportunity like the one she had to do what she did. She wanted to change the country of Uganda, and that she did. I imagine that her …show more content…
Katie sure has. She shows the traits of having a sense of honor, and determination. Her story relates to my story because I believe I also show honor and determination in what I do. Those two traits are only a few traits I noticed that we shared. Honor is shown through her when she arrives in Africa. She is shown to be cared for in Uganda. An example that I noticed her honor was when she was invited to come eat at a house. When she went to this house, she was treated like a queen. No table, nor chairs, but she was offered all the food they had. This shows honor within her. The honor within me is relative to hers. I noticed that she shows respect to others, so others show their respect back to her. It’s similar to me. I always try to show all my respect to all living things. As I hope to get the same response. This shows honor. Determination is shown through many aspects in both Katie and my life. In Katie’s life, she is determined to changed Uganda, which she does. In my life I’ve show a sense of determination in everything I’ve done, doing, and will do in the future. It’s a choice in lifestyle that always good to
African Congo impacts Leah in ways only one could imagine. Leah’s character sifts through life
In the book, Kisses from Katie, Katie Davis describes her remarkable journey through following God’s call for her life. During her senior year of high school, Katie traveled to Uganda as a part of a three-week mission trip. It was during that trip that she felt the initial tug of God directing the call for her life. She instantly fell in love with the country and could’t wait for the next chance she had to return. So when she was just 19 years old, Katie uprooted herself from her life in small-town Tennessee to move to Uganda full-time. As a promise she made to her parents, she was only supposed to live there for one year.
The definition of the word honor is high respect for someone. My definition of honor is someone who did something very important and should be respected.
In addition, Katie’s use of diary entries at the end of each chapter gives readers a better idea of her experiences in Uganda, and help to tie the novel together. In one entry titled “God of the Impossible” from Sunday, February 8, 2009, Katie writes, “This is my life. My real life. People say to me sometimes, ‘There’s no way that is real, right? You do know how to tell a story, though!’ Let me tell you, as I fall onto my bed at the end of the night, I look up at the sky amazed and wonder, ‘No way is this real, right?’ Yes. It is” (Davis 151). What makes entries like these so important in understanding Katie and her novel is that while Katie wrote her novel looking back on her experiences thus far, her diary entries were written in the midst of her journey. Katie’s feelings about her unique new lifestyle are directly revealed to the reader, giving much insight as to what Katie really thought about during her beginnings in Uganda. The
* Respect. Respect each individual with the same respect as you would like to be respected.
What honor personally means to mean is respect. It can be among people or for something. Honor is something nice for a person to have, meaning he or
modern times, this level of respect seems to be rarely visible in most parts of our society. Personally, I
In my family we value respect a good bit. When I was younger my mom made sure that I was a well mannered child. She would constantly remind me to say yes malm and thank you to people. My mom expects me to treat everyone with respect, even if
Remember if you want others to respect you, you first have to give respect. We should give respect to our elders automatically because they have paved the way. We should give respect to our teachers because they are sharing their time and knowledge with us to help us grow as individuals. We should give respect to our parents because they provide guidance and support in helping us avoid obstacles they have already overcome. And most importantly we should respect ourselves. When others see that you have self respect, they respect you more.
I believe in respect. Respect for animals, for teachers. I believe in respect amid mother and son, husband and wife, student and teacher— respect for myself. I believe that it is the substructure of humanity. Most of the world’s problems today have resulted from the absence of respect. Global warming is a result of disdain for the environment; it is murder caused by the lack of respect for precious human life. I see teenagers screaming that they hate their mothers. I see mothers yelling that they hate their children. All of this stems from the disconnect we have with ourselves and with others. I believe that respect is the strongest force on our earth, and with respect we can overcome obstacles and achieve happiness.
In other cases respect is earned, and not given. What I mean by this is that, sometimes people must gain the respect of others. This can be earned in many ways, like being respectful of others, being the best you can be, and doing kind things for others. This respect can cause people to look up and follow in example of someone, and eventually making you an example for others to follow and look up to, on so on and so forth.
This respect should be shown on every ones property including friend’s, teachers, and even strangers.
Respect shows the inner-self’s esteem of excellence to a person. Respect gives personality out to an adult or another person. Respect
Everyone wants to be respected. It’s in our nature, but in order to obtain respect, first of all one has to respect oneself. Second, one has to show respect to others in order to gain respect from them. If one doesn’t show respect to someone, that person may often feel blown off and lose respect for you. Respect in my eyes is like a math equation loyalty plus duty equals respect. respect is gained in conducting ones self in a way that others can stand
Respect is an important value to be taught when growing up. Through the years I have learned that in order to learn anything you must have respect for others. I have learned many valuable lessons from listening to my grandmother. She has told me many of her experiences, which has made me a better person. Having respect for other people has allowed me to be more open-minded and see qualities in people that most would not. I have always listened to what my friends and family has to say. That doesn’t always mean that I agree with them, but it is their opinion, so I respect it. In return I receive respect from them. As people begin to respect me more their trust in me also grows.
