Katniss Everdeen endured more challenges and difficulties than just fighting in the Hunger Games. Katniss faced the horrible challenge of overcoming her father’s death and leading on the family. Katniss was basically the leader in the family, so I believe volunteering as tribute for her sister, Primrose, was a dramatic challenge. Mental challenges were also faced in Katniss’s head; like how she was part of the cause why Rue and Thresh died. There are many reasons why I believe these were the most grueling challenges for Katniss Everdeen. The death of Katniss’s father forced Katniss to take over and provide for the Everdeen family, which is surely a difficult challenge. In the book on page fifty-one, Katniss says, “It was slow-going at first, but I was determined to feed us. I stole eggs …show more content…
I feel like this was a mental and physical challenge for Katniss. On page two hundred and nine, Katniss thinks in her head, “The warmth of Rue at my side, her head cradled on my shoulder, have given me a sense of security. I realize for the first time, how very lonely I’ve been in the arena.” This comforts her, Rue gave Katniss special feelings inside her heart that nobody could take away from them. When Rue died Katniss said she was determined to avenge Rue, and show the capitol that Rue was more than just a piece of their games. After Thresh had died, Katniss thought in her head, “Rue was one thing. We were allies. She was young. But no one will understand my sorrow for Thresh’s murder.” Katniss feels that district eleven needs to be avenged. That is a challenge Katniss makes for herself. These feelings make Katniss realize more what the game is. Katniss knows that they think Rue and Thresh are both just “pieces,” the capitol is messing with Katniss. Katniss didn’t just face challenges; Katniss made them for herself as
Katniss Everdeen lives in District 12, probably the poorest district in all of Panem. Katniss lives with her mother,
Sometimes when people encounter difficult challenges they rise up to the occasion and change for the better. The main character in Collins' book, Katniss Everdeen, is a demonstration of this type of response. When her little sister Prim was called to fight for her life, Katniss instinctively took her place; which creates irony, because nobody was expecting Katniss to volunteer for her. When hard times hit Katniss' family, her mom fell into deep depression and didn't provide for her family anymore, so in a way, Katniss became head of the household (with the support of many people); this sets the sad but intense mood for the book. She is characterized by her honest, hard working personality that is shown through her actions. Like
Heroes we know today like Superman and Harry Potter, have had their parents killed at a very young age, causing considerable amounts of stress to out protagonists. In the future, these loses served as motivation for the heroes to preserve through tough times. Katniss was no exemption to this, as her child hood also provided her with motivation. She experienced traumatic events such as her father dying when she was young causing a considerable amount of pain and mental hurt, as she still wakes up "screaming for him to run." Katniss is still mentally scarred from that incident, but not as much as her mother is, making her upbringing even harder. Katniss' mother retreat into depression, leaving her mother "locked in some dark world of sadness" made Katniss face responsibilities, which no eleven year old could handle. The factors ripped at Katniss, but also hardened her for the Games and during the Games. The motivation she gained from her childhood links her with other heroes, like Batman who was motivated to become a hero from his parents deaths. This attributes is important stepping stone in a stereotypical heroes life and Katniss fits the mould of hero with this
Katniss is a very brave girl who loves her sister dearly. She would do anything to make sure she was safe. When Prim turned 12, Katniss would not let Prim take out tesserae’s in her name because that made her name go into the pot more. She made sure Prim’s cat had enough food to survive, even though she hated it Katniss practically gave up her life to make sure that Prim was okay. When Katniss father was killed, she felt like she had to take care of Prim because of her mothers mental breakdown.
Katniss Everdeen is not a normal girl, she is a teenager who had to grow up fast within District Twelve. After losing her father to a mine accident, Katniss had to become an adult and be the sole provider for her family. Her mother detached herself from her role as a parent, which meant Katniss not only had to become the provider but also the nurturer of the family. This gives her the role of being the mother and father to her sister
Katniss and How She Changed During the Games How much did Katniss change in the novel, The Hunger Games? Throughout the novel, we see her character change and develop a lot due to the circumstances she finds herself in. Katniss is the novel's protagonist, and she volunteers for her sister to take her place in the Hunger Games. Her sister was not supposed to be a tribute, nor was it expected because it was her first year in the drawing. Despite this, she was drawn to help develop one of the novel's themes, “the games are rigged.”
This is further depicted when Katniss rebels against the capitol to ensure her family survives. - “District twelve where you can starve to death in safety”-, shows the reader how she really feels. It is shown through irony. Irony is used to highlight the main emotion the characters are portraying against each other, and their desire to save each other. Therefore it can be made evident that Katniss’ identity throughout her journey changes to protect those she loves, this shows the qualities of a hero.
She tirelessly and illegally hunts for food so that her mother and sister may have something to eat which can sometimes be difficult since they live in district twelve, the coal mining district which is also the lowest in economic standing. Her love for her sister is what fuels her bravery. Katniss considers herself as a motherly figure ever since the passing of her father.
Katniss Everdeen lives a life that is based on her ability to survive long before she becomes a participant in the Hunger Games. The death of Katniss’s father left Katniss to provide for her mother and her sister, Prim.
Katniss Everdeen is a teenage girl who lives in District 12, which is an impoverished coal-mining region in the country of Panem. She's a volunteer tribute in Panem's annual Hunger Games, having taken the place of her younger sister in an act of heroic self-sacrifice. Since the death of Katniss father in a horrible coal mining accident. Ever since then, Katniss has taken on the role of her family's head of household. Katniss's mother was unable to cooperate with the loss and fell into a deep depression, Katniss stayed focused and took charge.
Katniss Everdeen, the main character is seen in an incessant state of anguish, worrying about her beloved younger sister Prim, without the slightest concern for her own welfare, an idiosyncrasy that robustly contradicts with the typical perfect and flawless main character portrayed in almost all action/adventure films. The controversial scene then ends with the fearless Katniss Everdeen taking her sister’s place and volunteering for her in the Hunger Games after she had been conscripted. There are even ceaseless ties made between District 12 and World War II concentration camps ranging from the rag like clothing to the groups of hopeless children with guns aimed at their face, further deliberating Katniss’s initial mother like and selfish instincts when preferring to worry about her sister in an environment that can be related to a significant historical atrocity. As a set-up for the rest of the film, this sequence plays an important role in constructing the underlying theme of the film as a whole. The fact that Katniss finds her own empathy, sense of caring and compassion and her journey of going from a un-trusting and instinctive girl to a strong moraled, selfless woman that would rather die than take an innocent human life. An

In the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the main character and protagonist is 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a strong and selfless young woman who is far more mature than her age suggests.
