Harris was born on the 23rd of October, 1885 in Brantford, Ontario. His parents were Thomas and Anna Harris and he was born into a wealthy family. He attended St. Andrew’s College and then went on to study art in Berlin. He married Beatrice Phillips in 1910 and they had three children together.
