It 's tough to realize that less than 5 years ago we were living in a country of plenty. The U.S Economy had plenty of jobs, plenty of housing, plenty of security. With the turn our economy has taken, it 's easy to succumb to depression and despair. While our whole country is having difficulty dealing with these hard times, you as an individual could be taking it worse. Avoiding depression in these hard economic times is hard, but it can be done. Use these tips to help yourself and your loved ones from losing control of your positive emotions. Communicate Keeping the lines of communication open during hard times is the most important thing you can do to avoid depression. When you feel down, it is an automatic response to close yourself off from those around you. Letting yourself feel as if you have no one is the fastest road to depression. Talking with your spouse and family members about the hard road ahead will allow you to keep the problem from over taking you. Give Thanks Sometimes it 's hard to be thankful for what you have. If you or your spouse has lost a job or had a reduction in salary giving thanks for still having at least one job or one salary may seem hard to do. Depression can set in quickly if you aren 't careful and prepare yourself with the defense to fight it off. Let yourself realize and be thankful for what you still have.
