Once upon a time there was a young boy called Kendrick Lamar, who lived in the rough area of Compton in southern Los Angeles. His dad was a teacher at the local high school and his mother was a part-time cashier at Walmart. He was different than the other boys his age who were dealing drugs and involving themselves with gangs. Kendrick preferred to spend his time listening to music or doing his homework. One Saturday morning Kendrick’s mother wanted him to visit his Grandmother and bring her some food. Kendrick’s mother had made some delicious casserole which she then packed into his backpack. Kendrick waved goodbye to his parents who warned him to be careful. Kendrick’s Grandmother lived on the other side of neighbourhood, so the walk would …show more content…

Big Joey than enters the room and laughs evilly at Kendrick. “Ooh what’s in here?” says Big Joey, he than picks up Kendrick backpack and starts searching through it. Kendrick says “Get your big nose out of there!” Joey chuckling says “All the better to smell your fear with.” Kendrick is now extremely angry, while trying to force himself out of the chair he hears the wood crack. Joey finds the casserole and stares at Kendrick licking his lips. Than he launches the casserole at Kendrick’s feet, landing with a thud. Suddenly Kendrick swings back on his chair and slams it on the floor. The chair is in pieces all over the floor and Kendrick is lying in the rubble. He then gets to his feet and grabs the casserole next to him. All of the men start to run at him, Kendrick panicking starts throwing chunks of cold casserole at the men. Blinding the men with casserole, he runs to the phone and calls 911. The dial rings and a man picks up saying “911, what’s the emergency?” Kendrick in a worried tone says “There is a group of men trying to attack me” The man on the other side says “What’s the address?” Kendrick than tells the man his grandmothers address. “The police are on their way” the man says then hangs

“Why does the mailbox have to be so far?” Zuri thinks to herself as she turns the corner of North Broadview Avenue and Red Wood Road. As she rounds the corner she looks up only in time to see a white Lincoln town car barreling towards her and barely manages to jump backwards as it screeches to a stop right where she had been standing a few second ago. A tall, young black man hops out of the car and walks over to Zuri asking “Are you all right?” as he reaches out his hand to help her up. “Yeah I think so.” She replies as she gets up and dust herself off and looks around for her keys. “What you looking for?” the young man asks. “My keys I lost them when I jumped out of the way” she tells the young man as she continues to search for the keys.
Before becoming famous Kendrick was writing stories as a child, he put to music some lyrics about the rough Compton streets he grew up on. He rapped under the name K Dot. Lamar didn’t just stop there the excite lyrics on his debut album, caught and had the attention of hip-hop critics. As well, with MTV naming, him the "Hottest MC" of 2012 also putting him in the company of other rappers. Who have earned the title, including Lil Wayne,
This chapter begins with Fredrick Douglass describing where he was born and where he spent his childhood. Douglass was born and grew up in Maryland. As Douglass continues to describe the place he was born in as he is introducing himself he suddenly apologizes to the reader. Douglass states that he could not remember when he was born that none of the slaves knew when they were born. “I never met with a slave who could tell me how old he was. Few slave-mothers know anything of the months of the year, nor of the days of the month. They keep no family records, with marriages, births, and deaths. They measure the ages of their children by springtime, wintertime, harvest time, planting time, and the like; but these soon become undistinguishable and forgotten. Like other slaves, I cannot tell how old I am…. I suppose myself to have been born about the year 1817.”

Jay Z, Tupac, Kendrick lamar. All these people have the same thing in common. They call grew up in a ghetto. Jay Z donates to charity, Tupac was a shakespeare nut, and kendrick lamar donated almost $50,000 to his school he went to. Not for the publicity, he didn't want anyone to know about it. Where you're from doesn't define who you are.
Dr.Dre, one of the biggest producers in the history of hip-hop, signed him to his independent record label named Aftermath Entertainment. In October 2010, his major labelled debut album, "good kid, M.A.A.D city" was released. In that album, he told a story of himself when he was a teenager. He was named lyricist of the year after the many success he had for the album. That year he had three hit singles “Swimming Pools (Drank),” "Good kid M.A.A.D city" and “Poetic Justice”. Those three songs got him to the spotlight and to popular TV shows such as Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Last year, 2015, he released his second hit album "To Pimp a Butterfly" with artists like Bilal, Snoop Dogg, and Pharrell Williams. He was nominated for eleven grammy awards and took five home with him. The last time anyone got nominated for that many grammy awards was Michael Jackson and he had twelve nominations. Kendrick Lamar is now considered one of the best rappers ever because he released another album in 2016, that has already reached the billboard's number one spot. Kendrick wants to spread the idea of positivity throughout the world because he grew up in a violent city but he is showing people that they can change
In the concept album, good kid m.A.A.d city, Kendrick Lamar creates an autobiographical narrative that describes the societal pressures of growing up as a black teenager in Compton, and how his self-awareness and musical passion allowed him to escape from the city’s cycle of violence. Through the album’s storyline Kendrick makes the case that, despite coming from a hedonistic, gang infested city, he is able to transform into a puritan. Kendrick narrates this story through several different perspectives, including actual people from his life as well as his own psyche. Kendrick Lamar mainly invokes the persona of K.Dot, who is based on Kendrick’s actual seventeen year old self. This story begins from the first person perspective of naive K.Dot, who is characterized by a raspy, inflicted voice. The lyrics of this character show the ignorance and lack of direction in his life, as well his self-doubts and impressionability. It is eventually revealed that K.Dot has a passion for music. While K.Dot is a good kid at heart who is not gang affiliated, his innocence is tainted by the desires of the Compton lifestyle. After a violent encounter, a transformation begins to occurs from within K.Dot. He realizes that the negative influences of gang culture have corrupted him,
While reading chapters 8-13, I made two predictions. Firstly, I predict that Tony will attempt to part company with his “rescuers”, Denver and Sean. The reason I believe this will happen is partly that Sean made it very clear that he does not enjoy Tony’s company. This might be because this camping adventure was supposed to be a simple and fun camping trip between Sean and his friend. In the chapter, Sean advertised that it would be so much more fun if it were just him and Denver and that he wished that Tony hadn't tagged along and that he was also slowing them down. All of these negative comments could lead Tony to leave and continue the hike on his own. Also, Tony had flashbacks about how he always depended on people to make decisions
His grades start to suffer just because of his family issues. While in essay two there is a mother walking down the street with her child in a stroller. She looks at the homeless man differently which proves she is wealthy. The mother is “On the corner of Madison Avenue, he stops before a blond baby in an Aprica stroller. The baby's mother waits for the light to change and her hands close tighter on the stroller's handle as she sees the man approach”(1).

Almost 20 years to the day of it’s release, Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ (TPAB) was released. Between the release of his previous album and the recording of TPAB Kendrick paid a visit to South Africa. As he toured the country - visiting historic sites such as Nelson Mandela's jail cell on Robben Island - his worldview broadened, and so did his music. The trip led Kendrick to scrap "two or three albums worth of material," according to engineer/mixer Derek "MixedByAli" Ali. Kendrick wanted to make music that reflected the sounds of his upbringing in Compton, Calif. He began to listen to the likes of Sly Stone, Donald Byrd and Miles Davis. Kendrick incorporated
In “Alright” Kendrick Lamar is speaking to the public about police brutality, or is he sending a deeper message to the people of minority. Kendrick Lamar released the song titled “Alright” in 2015. Upon release the song instantly blew up. It 's catchy and even though people got tongue tied trying to recite the song everyone knew the hook of the song which stated “We gon be alright do you hear me do you feel me we gon be alright.” I wonder did anyone catch the poetic verses Kendrick was saying before the hook. By simply watching the video you instantly think oh police brutality but I recieved a deeper message. I believe Kendrick wanted the song to inform the public about the brutality that seemed to be continuous at the time; and offer a bit of hope to those who didn’t feel there was any. That’s why the song was so famous, Kendrick performed this song on numerous award shows and talk shows because the people needed to hear it. Though some believe the song is in protest against cops or sending a bad message others believe it is an anthem for african americans.
