Key Club College Application Analysis

My nature to serve attracts me to the Houston Methodist Summer Teen Volunteer Program. My goals are to gain experience and knowledge about careers in medicine, and to give back to the community. I would like to learn a lot about how people live by the ways they get hurt or how they deal with being sick. It’s a good study of human behavior because you see people at their highest and lowest extremes of emotion. To further my goal of pursuing a career in medicine, it is important for me to get hands on experience of serving people and executing work in a responsible manner. When a person donates their time, they give hope to someone who needs it. I feel that I will be also benefited because I get to see how my contribution has made a difference.

As finals were winding down in may 2015, i found myself surrounded by my fellow peers and upperclassmen i've never met in my school's community service

Many students entering high school fear to participate in extracurricular activities due to fear that teachers and parents place in their mind about the importance of success in high school will mean to their future. Little do these students know that participating in clubs, such as F.F.A., will culture them to be knowledgeable, desirable students not only to their high school but also to colleges. Being a member of the F.F.A. will open many doors for students future- from grants and scholarships to internships. F.F.A. is a nationally recognized organization known for members integrity and hard work this grants members a leg up in their

BETA Club and National Honor Society promote academic excellence and service, therefore I have helped in several events. For example, I gathered boxes filled with toys for impoverished children. Also, I helped host a dinner to honor local veterans in an effort to give thanks to those who have sacrificed everything in the name of service. Interact Club has also given me ample opportunities to help my community, from setting up a food drive to making blankets for Project Linus. These clubs instilled a strong sense of service within me and motivated me to find more ways to which to help my town.

One experience I have had in high school is to be Vice-President of Key Club, a volunteering club. Through Key Club, I discovered that I have a passion for volunteering and helping out those who are less fortunate than I am in hopes of helping them live a better life. As Vice-President, I get to share my love for helping others in my community with my fellow peers in hopes of inspiring them to help others as well. This has led me to realize that I want to ensure that I will continue to participate in my community and that I want to be a part of Engineers Without Borders in college. Like other service clubs, Key Club offers a variety of activities that gives us members plenty to choose from. These are opportunities that many students would participate in but are disoriented as to where to look; Key club facilitates this search. Volunteer activities such as Blood Drive, Humane Society and school clean ups have made me realize that there are endless possibilities to help out my community. Blood drive will help save individuals on the verge of life and death. Humane Society will provide care for animals that have reached a point of learned helplessness. School clean ups has kept our facility a symbol of pride. Knowing I saved a life, helped the helpless, and made my school a better place brings me pride beyond that of any materialistic thing. For my community service activity, I have chosen to participate in SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club. It is an organization to empowering students to make better decisions in life. As a member, I will discourage the usage of bad habits by students in peaceful ways and promote programs. Something I will do is funding for people in need, make a poster for Breast Cancer and other programs, and advise students to make the right choices in life. By my participation, I will be able to promote a student to make the right decisions and staying positive in high school and in the future.

Being admitted into college is a difficult process, one that requires students to be diligent in their studies, engage in a number of extracurricular activities, and overcome the everyday pressures and challenges that high-schoolers face across the country. Since Early College High School was founded in the year 2006, the school and its students have always been at disadvantage. The school has lacked several opportunities such sports, scholarship opportunities, etc. However, a topic that has been the spotlight of discussion amongst students over the course of eleven years has been the lack of extracurricular activities. This problem does not only affect students, but it rather affects faculty members as well. Although there has been a slow but gradual increase in solving this problem, this change has come forth at a lengthy rate. I feel that after all of the sacrifices that have been made by the community for my benefit, I have an obligation to give back and re-pay what has been given and more, I have an immense amount of appreciation and gratitude toward my community and all they have done for my peers and I. As what seemed to be an almost non-existent summer comes to an end, I have had time to reflect on what I hope to accomplish during my last year roaming the halls of James E. Taylor High School. I picture the impossible calculus problems that I will be required to solve or the piles of books I will struggle to finish as my literature exams near, but one thing that I am truly enthusiastic about is service. Improving my grades had been my most important goal as I began my high school career, however as this draws to an end, I have come to realize that the one thing that will truly leave a mark and will hopefully inspire others is the service that I have given to my community. I enjoy community involvement and believe that everybody should lend a hand in their community. I have many volunteer experiences within my community, both through clubs and on my own accord. I plan to become a role model for my peers in community involvement, encouraging others to join in, by actively participating in volunteer work. Furthermore, I expect to enrich the Honors Program own community involvement by researching and discussing new opportunities for students to reach out to their community. As a result, I will encourage others to help out in making our community a better place, and subsequently gain a broader perspective through our involvement. Ever since I can remember, I have had the intense desire to help people. In high school, I joined Kiwanis Key Club and National Honors Society; both organizations allowed me to gain hours of volunteer experience helping families in need within my own community. Both organizations have annual events to benefit our community. At Christmas, Key Club adopts a few families and we buy clothing and toys for the kids. Our efforts to make the holidays a more enjoyable time for the families removed the parents’ burden of having to worry about being able to pay bills after getting presents for their children. Also, National Honors Society holds a blood drive every year in coalition with the American Red Cross. Last year our blood drive was in honor of a little girl in our community with leukemia.

Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people’s minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people.

In my five years of active volunteer work with multiple non-profit organizations, I have seen firsthand the lack of attendance of my peers in times of great community need and support from its members. Although it has become more complicated to find time to give back to the community, with a full-time school and work schedule, there is always spare time to give back. The rapidly growing demand for volunteers in communities all across America is increasing and it is everyone’s duty, especially college students, to pay their dues to the
