The 1970’s were an interesting decade with the Apollo space mission, and Richard Nixon’s re-election. There was also Richard Nixon, and Jimmy Carter. The 1970’s also had pet rocks, and disco music. Also there was M.R.I’s, microwaves, and Pong.
Two events that happened in the 1970s include the Apollo space mission and Richard Nixon’s re-election as a United States president. To begin, the Apollo 13 space mission launched on April 11, 1970. Astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert were aboard the spaceship. Fifty-four hours into their flight, Lovell and Haise were checking systems when suddenly a bang was heard - the airfilter had exploded. The astronauts made a new air filter by putting everyday supplies together under NASA’s guidance. Then they circled the moon and came back to Earth. Apollo 13 landed in the Pacific Ocean. All of the astronauts were unharmed in this mission. The second event that happened in the 1970’s involved Nixon’s re-election asU.S. President. “His slim margin of the seventy three million votes cast, made him the 15th minority president.” He also was “the second president to face impeachment.” ( quote from Britannica School )

Richard Nixon is best remembered for his role in the Watergate Scandal and ending U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Richard Nixon tried to cover up a burglary of five me breaking into the Offices of political opponents. Richard Nixon ended the vietnam war by making a plan called vietnamization. vietnamization is where the us withdraws its troops and moves the war efforts to South Vietnam. Jimmy Carter is best remembered for making a treaty between Israel and Egypt. Jimmy Carter’s treaty was called the Camp of
Apollo 13 launched on April 11, 1970 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The crewmembers aboard the ship were James A. Lovell Jr., John L. Swigert Jr., and Fred W. Haise, Jr. Before the launch, there had been a few problems. Thomas K. Mattingly was supposed to fly on the Apollo 13 but he was exposed to the measles. He didn’t have the antibodies to fight the disease, causing him to not be able to go into space. Swigert took his place. Right before the launch, one of the technicians saw that the helium tank had a higher pressure than expected. Nothing was done to fix this. During liftoff, the second-stage engine shut down, causing the other engines to run longer than planned. Apollo 13 was off to a rocky start.
He appealed to the public and had won. When he was governor though, he fought to end segregation, increased the amount of black officials, promoted equal education, etc. In 1976, Carter decided to run for president. His ideas of balancing the budget and his statement “I’ll never tell a lie” gained momentum during the Watergate Scandal. He won the election and became the 39th president of the United States of America. Jimmy Carter is truly the most influential person during the 1970s. Carter had believed that it was imperative we change our energy policy after the energy crisis in 1973. Carter had succeeded in creating huge emergencies stores of oil and natural gas. He also decreased foreign oil by eight percent. Carter was a human rights activist and had suspended aid to Chile, Nicaragua, And El Salvador because their governments abused their people. The Camp David Accords of 1978 was his biggest accomplishment. Israel and Egypt had signed a peace treaty which Carter had acted in as an arbitrator. Israel withdrew from Sinai and each government recognized each other’s power in the world. Jimmy Carter is my choice because he fought for what he had thought was right and did not give
The 1970's was a difficult time period in American history filled with chaos, domestic and international crises, and very poor presidential leadership. Richard Nixon was president during the early years of the seventies and he was far from popular in the eyes of the American people. With inflation rapidly rising, Nixon soon became unfavorable, and with the controversy surrounding his actions concerning the Watergate Crisis, he was impeached and forced to resign. His Vice President, Gerald R. Ford, soon took his place in the White House. However, Ford was unable to handle the crippling events taking place in the United States; his approval dropped drastically within months, and like Nixon he lost support of the American people. When the
Apollo 13 was one of the unlucky missions with an explosion and an unfortunate accident. All of the unfortunate event from apollo 13 was seen to be caused by the actual number of 13. Most individuals reference the number 13 with "terrible luck." Apollo 13 was propelled precisely at 1:13pm from the Kennedy Space Center, on April eleventh, 1970. The sum of the launch date's digits assuming that they are all added from left to right, 4/11/70, is equal to the number 13 and the blast that happened on the apollo 13 spacecraft happened on the 13th of april..Apollo 13 was one of 7 manned missions that entered into outer space. During the preparation for the launch of apollo 13 A lot of, what you could say “misfortune” happened, such as equipment going missing, engines not working and the struggle to load the craft the take off was soon dubbed to be an “Ominous trip”.
For one, he helped Egypt and Israel come to some peaceful agreement at the Camp David Accords. He was also the president that finally made official a relationship with China that had been in the works during at two presidencies before him. Even with Taiwan Relations Act, Carter was able to come to the table with the Peoples’ Republic of China and forge an agreement that had been sought after for years. Another of Carter’s successes were the Torrijos-Carter treaties and the Bilateral Strategic Arms Limitation treaty, both of which prevented more problems for the US in the public
Where Apollo 13 took place and launched, was at the complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. It happened at 2:13 p.m. EST, April 11, 1970. What had caused it to orbit the moon and come back, was a ciple in the oxygen tank. One thing that happened was on the Apollo 13 spacecraft, a oxygen tank was crippled and they had to orbit the moon and return home. The main event was that for the third time, they successfully lifted off once more, just to run into a problem with the oxygen tank. The people involved (meaning on the Apollo 13) were: Fred Haise, Jack Swigert, and Jim Lovell. It kind of ties in with Apollo 11 because they both went to the moon but, Apollo 11 was made up to beat the Soviet Union in the Space Race by John F. Kennedy. Apollo 13 ties in with the three theme words, Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in these three different ways: Exploration, they explored outer space and learned many new things about plants, if anything grows on the planets, if anything lived there they didn 't know about, etc. Encounter, they encounter many new materials (plastic is one of those things). They had encounter a cripple and the oxygen tank that happened on the Apollo 13. Exchange, they exchanged ideas about what to do about the cripple of the one of the oxygen tank. They were trying to exchange communication on how they were doing in space. A fun fact about Apollo 13 is that it is the seventh manned mission in the American Apollo Space Program. Shortly after the
President Richard Nixon forever changed American politics in the mid-20th century. Nixon is remember for the Watergate scandal and being the only president to resign from office. Unfortunately for Nixon his legacy is forever tarnished because of Watergate and many people forget that he was the one to forge diplomatic tie with China and the Soviet Union. Nixon run for president twice, the first time Nixon ran he lost to the democratic John F. Kennedy and when Nixon ran a second time in 1968 he won. Nixon served as vice president for Dwight Eisenhower.
The 1970s were a time of confusion and revolution in the United States. Integration finally prevailed in the public school system, with the major incident being in Little Rock, Arkansas. The United States went through an extreme energy crisis in the 1970s. Both Welfare and Social Security went through drastic reform policies throughout the decade. In addition, the U.S. economy fluctuated throughout the decade creating both good and bad times for many, as inflation rates hit an all-time high. The 1970s was an extremely influential decade in America's history, and one that helped to shape following decades.
Introduction Apollo 13 was the third NASA mission to attempt to land on the moon. Apollo 13 was set to launch on April 11, 1970. A sequence of events caused the three astronauts to abort their mission, and they were forced to return to Earth. Almost three days after launch there was an explosion in the second oxygen tank in the service module. This explosion caused the first tank to rupture a valve.
Former President Jimmy Carter is frequently referred to as a champion of human rights. While his presidency is deemed mostly unsuccessful in handling domestic affairs, such as unemployment and a sharp increase of inflation, Carter is well respected for his attempts to negotiate peace across the world. One of his better-known attempts is the Camp David Accords, in which Carter brought Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat together to discuss peace between the two nations. While most Americans see the Camp David Accords as progress toward peace, Arab leaders felt the opposite.
The mission became a complete failure after the oxygen tank exploded leaving the crew with a very short oxygen supply and then they had to worry about CO2 poisoning also. But since the mission was a failure, the NASA space program would now have to create more Apollo missions in order to get a better understanding of space and some of the forms that float around in it. During the Apollo 13 mission they encountered many thing that they wouldn't have wanted to encounter. Most of the encounters that were experienced during this mission weren't at all good. The pilots had one major encounter and that was when one of their main oxygen tanks exploded, this was very catastrophic because this happened right before they were about to descend to the moon’s surface. No one can really understand what exactly went through all of those astronauts heads. There is no worse situation than to be stuck in a small cramped area with very little oxygen and thousands of miles between where you are at and your home. That is quite possibly the worst case scenario. This was then worsened by the fact that they then had to ration their food supplies so that it would last them until they were able to get back to
Richard Nixon was 37th President of United States from 1969 until 1974. He won second term as president in 1972 defeating George McGovern. Also, President Nixon is remembered as the first President to resign from Office after the 70s Watergate Scandal. His achievement includes forging diplomatic ties with China and Soviet Union and also withdrawing troops from war in Vietnam. But his involvement in Watergate ruined his term as President and resigned in 1974 rather than facing impeachment.
The 1970’s: An Era of Change Sex, drugs, and rock n roll - the 1970’s were a crazy time for the culture of America. From the war in Vietnam coming to a close, to a completely revolutionized genre of music, the year 1970 caused a great change in society. The most important parts of 1970 that shaped America is the start of the push for gay marriage, new music styles and technology, fashion, and the Apollo 13 incident. One pivotal event that occurred in 1970 was the beginning of the push for marriage equality.
Such as how America created a civil war due to the war with Vietnam. President Nixon created a line of communication along with trading with China. Although during the war with Vietnam, Nixon had a problem with both national and international internal frontages. While he was having his campaigns to end the war, at the same time he was having us bomb Cambodia. As well as sending troops to help assist the South of Vietnam. The next election in the year of 1972, Nixon was reelected against George McGovern, and shortly after the election President Nixon became involved with the Watergate scandal. With television being a huge success as time was moving forward, everyone was hearing about the burglary that took place and how Nixon was somehow involved. In the year 1973, President Nixon was the first President to ever resign, where President Ford became the new President of the United States.
The Apollo 11 Mission greatly affected the U.S. and all the citizens in it. When Neil Armstrong
