Avoiding Key Health Mistakes and Risks
Part of getting older is having a deeper understanding of how our health is changing and how our bodies are shifting. Unfortunately, too many of us are happy to live in denial and continue the typical blasé attitude towards health that we maintained throughout our 20s and 30s. We often miss just how stressful this can be, but in truth – it’s one of the most stressful experiences you can imagine. Stress drives us to continue bad habits, so it’s vital that you find healthy ways to manage your stress (through yoga, meditation, and making time for yourself) instead of turning to smoking, fatty foods, and alcohol.
• Lack of Sleep
Sleep is another thing our body desperately needs, and we dismiss. Sure, you can sleep when you’re dead, but you’ll probably die much sooner if you don’t start taking it seriously. Aim for at least seven hours every night. You’ll notice the difference, too, you’ll find your stress levels lowering and it will become easier to make the right dietary choices, too. With a reduction in cortisol levels you won’t feel as driven to gorge yourself on unhealthy goods.
• Too Much Sitting
Long stretches of sitting aren’t good for anyone, so in addition to your 30 minutes of daily exercise make sure you interrupt your sitting with a short walk or even just some stretches. This can help fight heart disease, obesity, depression, osteoporosis, and even cancer.
• Smoking & Alcohol
We often underestimate the effects that our vices have on our overall health. Smoking doesn’t just affect your lungs or increase your risk factor for cancer – it also ages you prematurely, affects your appetite, ruins your teeth, and affects your bones. These are all things that are going to become more

While many of the health risks that besiege Americans are fought by creating a vaccination or an antibiotic that can be administered to all who are infected, one of the greatest health risks facing America’s nation today is sadly an epidemic, not just of a physical nature but often times also with behavioral origins, and whose eradication has been one of the most difficult our nation faces. According to data obtained from the website for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CDC and other federal and state agencies have labored diligently on several fronts to reduce our country’s obesity problem, and the latest statistics indicate that certain populations are benefitting from their campaigns.

The first assessment was very informative for me because I honestly don't think about the health aspects of my life as much as I should. Their first health risk I took away from the assessment was that I do not incorporate enough fruits and vegetables in my diet. The second health risk also had to do my diet thing that I needed to include more dairy products like milk and things like that. The third health risk had to do with stress management and lacking some confidence when I have a ton of things to do.
