Are you “a” leader but not “the” leader? That is the category into which most leaders fall. Great things can be accomplished by those who lead from the middle. They may or may not get the credit. However, credit is not the goal. The goal is faithfulness, progress, success, change, or resolution depending on the situation. It does not matter who gets the credit so long as the job gets done. I love and respect my leader so very much. I also take joy on those occasions where he says or initiates something over which I had influence. We he wins, I win and all of our staff wins. You will not always get your way. You will encounter some people whose motives are not pure and their actions will bring hurt to you. What do you do in those circumstances? You must offer genuine forgiveness and let go of the hurts. If not, you will become the cynic and will be unable to accomplish the aims described in the previous point. Buddy Hackett once said that “while you carry the grudge the other guy is out dancing.” What does that mean? It means you only hurt yourself and not only do you become an anchor holding back your organization but you also become the anchor to your own personal development and effectiveness. You will get hurt and when it happens you must work through it, learn from it, and then let go.
7. Work hard, but not to the neglect of your family. Effective leaders are by nature hard workers and you should be. However, on this point you should not compromise. Strive to succeed with family and at work. But if you can only succeed with one, make it your family. Jobs come and go but your family is a lifetime association and commitment. You can do both. It requires skills at prioritizing, establishing healthy boundaries, good time management, and a strong work ethic. Do you possess those four qualities or skills? If not get help because your church, organization, and most importantly your family need your leadership.

Leadership comes with great responsibility, I personally have never experience being a leader. However, I believe that I don’t need to be a leader to be successful, instead I am always willing to work hard with other people and achieve any goal as a whole(team). Although, I consider myself as a great problem solver, and also very responsible according to the effort I put in every little thing that I do. In the past, I have helped the leaders organize and help them to achieve a goal. I gave my hundred percent in anything I do.
A leader is described as a person who guides or directs a group, but I believe it is so much more than that. A leader is a person that inspires people to do good and does good themselves. Due to my extensive volunteer work, I believe that I qualify as a fairly good leader. My outstanding leadership is shown clearly in my participation in community theatre. I have participated in the theatre community at Top Hat Productions, a theatre company located near me, for a couple years. My leadership in this company is shown through my ability to get people involved and my own participation.
Being a leader is more than simply holding a leadership position or having the ability to lead. Everyone is capable of being a leader, but not everyone exercises his or her leadership abilities. Each person’s idea of leadership is different. My idea of leadership has developed over time, and being a member of the President’s Leadership Class has helped me develop my philosophy of leadership further than what it was two months ago. My personal philosophy of leadership is the ability to effect change through leading by example, taking initiative, and encouraging others.
As a leader, one must be kind and firm, making sure what needs to be done is done. As a leader, one must inspire their charges to finish the project completely and to do their best. I have been a leader in our school’s Journalism (Yearbook) class as an Layout Editor. I have made sure my staff has been consistent in their work and make their deadline on time.
I will always encourage people to do their best and will always guide people into the right path. I will always promote excellent behavior and will exemplify it as well. Leadership is not all about telling others what to do in my opinion. I believe that leadership is about accepting responsibilities and working together as a group to make excellent decisions. I am a leader when it comes to multiple things. In my choir, I’m the section leader for the baritones. In group projects, I often take charge of planning the project in order to ensure that it gets done in the best way possible. One of the most notable times I took a leadership position was when I volunteered with a group of my NHS peers at the Hot Chocolate Run in downtown Chicago. As more and more people began to finish the race, the lines where we were serving hot chocolate became really hectic and crowded. I decided to take leadership and usher people into different lines, as well as tell everyone to have their tickets ready when they got to the counter, even though I was not told to do that. I do not have to think I am a leader to be one believe it and it will happen. I would like to lead others in the right way to be successful as their leader. Being focused and passionate in what you do it will take you along way. Collaborating with people I would be leading is a great way to understand their mindset of thinking and what they want in life. Always be professional while taking the spot of leading others.
Leadership is in many ways a responsibility, whether it’s an appointed job as a leader or a role you find yourself in unexpectedly you must perform adequately not just to accomplish the given task but to also have those following you achieve a given goal. Some are natural born leaders, taking responsibilities for self, never pointing fingers and possessing the ability to find solutions to the obstacles that arise. I feel that being a leader means having a passionate vision, and sharing it with others. Only when you get to inspire your peers, it is possible to share a common goal, you can then direct the efforts and dedication of the entire team. I am a leader on the soccer field. I know what we are all supposed to be doing and I like to give feedback and help teammates improve so we can work better to be stronger on the field. Another way I try to be a leader is at school, I try to help as many people as I can, hoping my assistance makes them feel better.
When I was younger, I always thought being a leader was all about telling people what to do. Glenwood taught me that was not the case at all. Here at Glenwood, I learned to lead by example. I am the battalion commander in our military program. When I teach our new students how to do a certain commander, I demonstrate it. When I have to teach them how to make their own bed I demonstrated it. Lead by example. I as well learned how to control my emotions and when I lead to lead with my head. All leaders are not perfect. There have been several times where I have shown leadership here at Saint Viator. I have been a part of Service and Song every summer, where I have lead 6th through 8th graders who are interested in helping others, and dedicated in bettering our community. Every year I have been a group leader, leading them through our service trips, leading them through group discussions, and leading icebreakers. When doing this I made sure to get everyone involved and make everyone feel comfortable with each other. For many years, I have been told by teachers, family, and friends that I am a good leader. Until fairly recently, I had never truly thought about what it means to be a good leader and just took it as a compliment. Leadership is an intangible concept which cannot be properly outlined in a dictionary, but one which must be formed and explained only through one’s own philosophies and experiences.
Leadership to me is not the matter of control, it is the matter of earning respect and helping the system become stronger. I signed up to be the captain of my high school team because I have been with everyone long enough to know them and for them to know me and I knew how to make our team better as a whole. Soon after, I was voted to be the captain, I was very pleased with the result, but at the same time, feeling anxious. This was the first time I was actually in control of something bigger than myself. I figured out that working alone is not the solution to make my team better, my opinions mattered but could not overshadow everyone else’s. The more I worked with them, the more I found out how inconsiderate I was. I started giving each person a position, each position was responsible for different duty such as strategy, skill drills, athletic development, and manager. I was stunned because prior to that point, I was totally oblivious to the concept of leadership. We made a huge progress and that was when I realized the power of team effort. I was uplifted, individualism is not something to be found in a leader, it is of the essence of a leader to put every piece of a puzzle together to make the perfect picture.
Leadership is something that we are all born with because we are all born. Therefore, who is a leader and who is not depends on who really wants to be a leader and who does not. Leadership is a skill and so it can be learned. As anything that is learned it demands practice and practice to be the best. It would not be something that will happen in a matter of a day. There are multiple elements that make a leader. Collaboration is a key element for successful teamwork. Therefore, a leader must always be in the look for ways to foster collaboration. Creating trust within the team, support face-to-face collaboration, transfer responsibilities when making decisions, and ultimately teach other how to be leaders. All of this is not done if it is not done from the bottom of your own heart.
