Kharg Island Case Study

In the seawater, hazard quotients (HQs) for Kharg Island were higher than one (USEPA criteria) for both the adults and children. For all compounds Kharg Island had highest concentration of pollutants and it could be due to high human activities, crude oil extraction and related industries dominate the region. Moreover, the calculated HQs of InP, BaA, BbF, BaP and DahA in all Islands were found to be higher than other PAHs, for both the adults and children. The obtained results demonstrated DahA had the highest values of concentration followed by InP>BbF>BaP>BaA and this order is repeated for all sampling sites in the Persian Gulf, and it is continuously growing from east to west part of Gulf.
