It is a shame that having an opinion that does not align with the majority's viewpoint is quickly condemn. Ms. Fleischer's piece is HER opinion on Kim Kardashian; nothing more, nothing less. You don't agree? That is your prerogative. That being said, if co-founder views Kim Kardashian as a feminist, that's HER opinion on what she defines as a feminist. I see a lot comments crying out hypocrisy on Ms. Fleischer's end; yet, the comments themselves are the pure definition.
On the issue of one’s religious practices versus the law it can be a complicated issue. In the Kim Davis situation, she had held a position within government that complicated the matter with that of her own beliefs versus her duties and obligations to her job. Kim Davis while serving had decided that due to her beliefs she would be unable follow through with giving out same-sex licenses to marriage couples, however, her decision to do is not fair as her personal opinion on the issue conflicts with what could be in the law books. For example, it is normal for Kim Davis to personally not believe in same-sex marriage and condemn it, but to use her views in denying people potential legal rights that they have while occupying a legal position herself
There are many different ideas of what a hero is and it has varied throughout history. Today a hero is someone who stands up to the popular power or gives service to helpless people. A hero is simply someone who works at being the best they can as well. In modern day society, some look to Kim Kardashian to be a role model or Bruce Jenner as a symbol of bravery, but the real heroes in modern day society are the servicemen who all the sudden get attention for doing their job in a crisis. People like the New York Fire Department are heroes because of 9/11. The servicemen are a closer match to what heroes looked like through history, but the Kim Kardashian heroes of today present a completely different picture of a hero than history had suggested.
Oedemas of sexual tissue with extracellular water retention and swellings of the skin of the circumanal, subcaudal and paracallosal regions (Krohn & Zuckermann, 1937; Dixson, 1998a) are observed in many species of non-human primates, baboons being famous for their large bright behinds. We know that this engorged feature has evolved independently 5 times as different tissue areas are involved in each of the species exhibiting the trait (Dixon, 1998b). Multiple independent evolutions of this trait suggests that the exaggerated swellings serve an adaptive purpose. (Tecumseh Fitch, 2011) The possibly quite significant added costs of simply
In this particular article, Ratchford unnecessarily manipulates her readers by inducing fear. On a very controversial issue Ratchford makes many comments like, “Great, it’s open season on women now… You can say whatever you will about whatever woman you want, it’s just freedom of expression.”” By commenting like this, she makes those that already have strong feelings become angry. It makes women seem like they have no importance. It can catch the attention of those who are aware of social issues and can pertain to those who are against violence towards women, harassment, and women equality, though not through the right reasons. In addition to Ratchford’s scare tactics, she also uses
Because of this, there is controversy as to where Gay stands and whom she is criticizing. Gay initially distances herself from the feminist movement and even cringes when someone refers to her as a feminist (2). However, she later states that, “If I am, indeed, a feminist, I am a rather bad one” (6). She ultimately reveals that she is a bad feminist and she “would rather be a bad feminist than no feminist at all” (10). Here we can see how Gay’s stance has evolved throughout the article from shying away, to maybe, to definitely yes. This is because of the transformation of the definition of feminist that Gay identifies with.
When I was about twelve years old, I had an idea what I wanted to do when I got older. A business owner and entrepreneur in clothing. My inspiration came from someone who is a model and fashion designer whos name is Kimora Lee Simmons. Watching her reality show "Life in the Fab Lane" seeing her come up with creative designs for clothing was very interesting to me. I always had a love for being creative. The way she lives is luxurious, having a net worth of $50 million. Besides money it takes hard work, passion, dedication and taking risks to start up a business. Despite what it takes, a question come in hand is, Why would I want to have my own business in clothing? To express myself, see others wearing something I created, and to become extremely
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced on Monday that their newborn son is named Saint, a name befitting the most #blessed child in the land.
I read an article from The Kansas City Star called “What is feminism? Miss USA answer raises questions” by Kate Irby. After reading this article I found that the memoir I also read during this summer called “Bossypants” has many similarities and differences. I really enjoyed Kate’s article and how she talked about Miss USA Kara McCullough answer about feminism. Kara got asked a question asking “ Do you consider yourself a feminists ?” a reporter answered for her and said “Yes you do, absolutely you do”. She did not agree. McCullough said “So as a woman scientist in the government, I’ve liked to lately transpose the word feminism to equalism,”. She also said “women are equal as men when it comes to opportunity in the workplace”. I truly and sincerely believe that’s true because women should be equal with men and men should be equal with women.
Kris Jenner is extremely cautious and determined to prevent yet another divorce drama between her son Rob and Blac Chyna, like her sister Kim. She has allegedly convinced Blac Chyna to promise to her that she would be married to Rob for at least three years.
Kris Jenner may appear strong and composed in public and on the reality TV show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” but behind closed doors, she apparently showed that she might be just a bit human. Radar Online, July 14, 2015, reported Kris has suffered some emotional meltdowns that started before the gender transformation of Caitlyn Jenner. Some of them were shown on their reality show’s special, “Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s About Bruce.” when she discovered that her ex-husband wanted surgery to become a woman. However, there was much speculation on whether those tears were real, or just for the camera's. Although it may never be proven whether her tears were real or fake, she has allegedly had breakdowns in the past. Pam Behan told
I want to comment on this article as a whole. Because although Kimmel brought up good points, I didn’t find his argument convincing. In order to bring attention to woman studies, I think people need to look beyond the men concept because that idea is so overused. To me woman studies is more than mens oppression, its about sacrifices, movements, projects that woman have done. Not to mention that a guy is writing this article and mostly gloating about men, that’s irrevalent. For instance, “Men have been there supporting women’s equality every step of the eway”(Kimmel 27). In other words, this is a LIE because if this was the case, why isn’t there equal pau? Why are women not given leadership positions? Why did a dumbass become president? Yeah,
The author implied that she is grateful for the feminism movement and that she respects it. Feminism is the reason why women now have the right and liberty each individual deserves. We all have different views on this issue, but only one thing matters: how we fight for what we think is right and firmly grasp it in our
I want to bring up Kimmels point on pro-femimist men. Toward the end of the article he “Men have been there supporting women’s equality every step of the way. And if men have been there, it means that men can be there and that they will be there”(Kimmel 27). I find Kimmels view to be very biased because even though he makes a few good points, there not true. For instance, “Frederick Douglas campaigned tiredlessly for womens rights” (Kimmel 26), was unnecessary. Men called the shots for womens because they were in control. Not only that, but women were never given a chance to redeem themselves because the odds were against them. Women shouldn’t have to fight for there rights, equal pay, leadership positions because they’ve already earned it.
If you don't know who Kylie Jenner is, then you're probably spending so much time in the university library that you got disconnected to the outside world or you're potentially a television hater and never bothered knowing what's going on. Kylie Jenner is literally everywhere, from television advertisements to your must-watch reality shows, to fashion posters plastered on your dreamt boutique to that humongous billboard greeting you on the subway. She is one of the most loved models of this generation, and she sets fashion trends that we never disregard, or put forth some fashion inspirations that we mimic so avidly that we thought it should give us the creeps. Kylie Jenner is a true-blue testament that if one influences other to feel good about themselves, then it's easier for success to be reached.
Anthony and Disney I placed Anthony as an active feminist and Disney as a passive feminist. When I look at America today, I would place a majority of men and woman under the passive feminist category. I feel a majority of people fall into those ideals because there are small arguments regarding feminist issues, but no action is taken on a broader scale to promote change. When I think of a feminist I think of someone such as Susan B. Anthony, who did something regarding women’s rights and made a positive change within society. In today’s society, technology regulates much of our daily life and technology is where people go to voice their opinions about feminist ideals. Often times, celebrities will tweet about how woman can stand alone from men and how woman should not be sent home for what they wear because it could distract a male classmate. Those tweets circulate for a while but are soon forgotten. Those celebrities who type those messages are not an active feminist, they are simply an American utilizing their right of freedom of press under the First Amendment. Anyone can be a feminist, but to be a feminist he or she needs to do more than tweet to create change. Circulating the idea is a minimal step, one needs to advocate the issue on a more public level to create change for woman and therefore be considered an active feminist. Some celebrities often argue for woman having more equality with men and their ideals follow feminist’s ideals, but they deny ever associating themselves with the word. These people feel that if they say they are a feminist than, they are saying that woman are better and more superior then men. These celebrities are acting as passive feminist who are voicing their opinions about subjects related to the matter but doing nothing more to create change. In another sense some celebrities are active feminist and want to promote change but will still deny associating themselves with the name. People feel that if they
