Wayne Dyer once said “doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life”. Ever since I was a little girl, fashion has always been a very important part of my life. However, while most young girls were busy designing Barbie’s next outfit, I was enthusiastically trying to figure out the best way to market and sell Barbie to my friends. This habit did not end during my childhood years; rather it followed me through high school. I firmly believe that being passionate about your career can add much happiness and depth to your life. By attending FIT I can bring and take away positive ideas and qualities.

As a child, I have always been a visually observatory person. Patterns, textiles, and fashion have always been high interests of mine. My childhood consisted of many Barbie dolls as toys, and it wasn't the Barbie dolls that I wanted to play with, but the clothes that I loved to collect and interchange between the dolls. Creating different outfits for the dolls made me feel as if I was making my own mark in fashion. As I grew older, begging my mother to purchase fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar were typical and became expected. While flipping through the pages of fashion magazines, I was enthralled while examining the latest trends from celebrities and models. This is what influenced me to want to work in the fashion industry.

The reality TV show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels does not depict a typical US family. The reason I say that is because, Simmons rock way of life including extreme wealth is absolutely not ordinary for most Americans. Since they aren’t really reality as they claim, shows like that are fictional show that’s designed to pull in ratings. A usual US family lives mundane lifestyle when compared to Simmons and his family.

Into 11th grade I pursued this path of taking fashion classes in the city, and took fashion marketing classes in. From all the hard work and determination In these classes through out high school, I was rewarded with high grades, which are hard to obtain in these courses. I also stood out because I was interviewed and placed upon the FIT website itself, under “who’s in precollege?” (When you apply for a course) which holds the information and pictures of a handful of unique and stylish individuals. All of my fashion experiences as a whole have built me into the hardworking, determined, independent individual I am now and I am very proud that was able to achieve these aspects in order to reach my goal of being apart of the fashion industry. I also feel that this has made me eligible and also worthy of becoming a member of the National Honor Society who’s character will be beneficial towards this

My love affair with fashion started years ago, but over these past 2 years it has grown into something so beautiful. Fashion made it’s grand entrance in my life when I was looking over a Chanel catalog along with a few other designers. For example; Vera Wang, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, and many more. The designs caught my eye and I was just mesmerized by it all. It literally took my breath away! When I asked myself what I was I going to be when I got older, I had no answer. This made me realize that I had to make a decision and I had to make one fast. An area of study I have always been interested in is business. My dreams as a child have always been to become the President of The United States or an owner of a business. Working for a business would be intresting, but owning one would be more fulfilling. I would be able to expand my imagination by coming up with new ideas and control the company as a whole. I love designing and creating different things that make people happy, and if one day I became an owner of a company that produced products that satisfied people, that would make me happy. After graduating from Brazosport College, I plan to transfer to the University of Houston in the spring of 2018 to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Management. Once I complete my Bachelor’s degree my goal is to have my own fashion boutique. I have always been told to find my passion and turn it into a career. Growing up I held several types of jobs throughout a wide range of businesses. Having a family of mostly small business owners, I have always felt that I also wanted to build my own business. I worked for my dad restoring antique cars, my grandfather at his golf course, a local car dealer detailing cars, and also at our hometown funeral home as a funeral service associate. Of all the work I did, I enjoyed being at my grandfather’s golf course the most. It covered 178 acres and there were always multiple types of work that could be done. As soon as I left high school I interned at a fashion house for three months and then my fashion dreams skyrocketed into something most times I cannot even fathom. For me, fashion and styling has been something I have always done with so much passion and happiness for the past four years. After winning season twelve of Project Runway there has been countless emails of getting replicas of what was made on the show. There have also been request for original dresses to be made for numerous celebrities’. With that being said I have decided to start my own clothing company “Queen Chic”. We will not only sell and manufacture in the states, but this will be a global venture with manufacturers in china.
