In September of 2012, I was sitting in a class listening to my professor going on and on about something in history. Since then I realize that I didn’t learn anything by just listening. I had to find out a better way to learn. I searched on the internet and took some quizzes and found out that I’m a kinesthetic learner. A kinesthetic learner learns best by moving their bodies to activate their large or small muscles as they learn. This definitely fits me to the T. I never sit still; my hand and mouth have to be constantly moving in order for me to focus and retain any information. It also explains why my first grade teacher sent me home with multiple letters stating that I needed to be put on Ritalin. But that’s not all. I also learned from
Through myriad lectures, I am finding that I learn best kinesthetically. Hands-on activities provide kinesthetic learners with a deeper understanding of material that they do not receive with lectures alone. Simply reading a textbook or following a power-point is great for note-taking, but I have found that notes are not enough for me. By actually doing, I benefit from practice, and the content is better stored in memory. Even with simple flashcards for memorizing vocabulary or historical dates, I will excel further than by skimming over a sheet of paper or by listening to the information repeatedly read aloud. If I achieve my goal of becoming a crime scene technician, my learning style will take me far because the job will require me to collect
I am a great learner as a student, I love to sometimes see if I can be moving around to learn better. I'm a kinesthetic learner and I love to move I'm a left side brain person I love to be careful and pay attention I'm deadline driven I always pay attention to all The details.Just to have a great grade with my teachers I love to make sure that I'm getting notes down. So I can study I love to have a great teacher that knows how to make a school. I'm red ,because I’m super aggressive. I do well in aggressive areas and, I Need to be paying attention ,because I need to be highly aggressive . the best that I can have great grades and succeed in the next grade, because I want to succeed in the world. To go into college, I Want go to C.U where
Fleming (2005) stated that people can be grouped into four styles of learning: (Gravells, 2012), Visual, Aural, Read / Write and Kinaesthetic (VARK), with Honey and Mumford (1992) suggesting that learners are a...
Results of the VARK self-assessment quiz indicated that I have a strong preference for kinesthetic and weak preference for Read-Write learning style. Second quiz for intelligence shows I have high percentage for Visual-Spatial and low for Rhythmic-Musical. Being a strong kinesthetic learner and with high Visual-Spatial intelligence, I will likely to teach by demonstration and less on reading and writing. Furthermore, I will have more hands-on and role-play and arts and crafts activities and less on reading and writing assignments. Create projects and activities in which all five senses (sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing) will be used. This style of teaching will benefit the kinesthetic learners with Visual-Spatial and Bodily-Kinesthetic
The section I scored most in was kinesthetic intelligence and I was not surprised. People who got this can learn the best through hands on experiments and are always physically active. These people also have trouble sitting still and may become distracted easily. A few careers that are in this category are, athlete, physical education, and a physical therapist. I strongly agree with why I got kinesthetic as my highest scored. I am always physically active and I love to learn things if I can see it and touch it. I do tend to get distracted easily if I am just sitting and doing nothing. Being an athlete has always been my dream job so I agree with the careers that it gave me. A physical therapist has also been a career that I have been interested
Kinesthetically the learner would then be putting it into practice by the writing of this paper. Finally, the reading of the paper. This final step is critical in creating a complete development of understanding of how the learner learns. The use of several methods that stimulate a variety of senses helps to activate the learning process (Edelman, Mandle, & Kudzma, 2014, p. 218).
After hard work I finally found out I am a kinesthetic, right brained learner. To begin, I used many tools to figure it out including a computer test and survey sheets. My favorite one was the computer test, it said i was a kinesthetic learner. On the characteristic worksheet it stated that I am mostly right brained. That made me confused because for left brain it said, “Good at math” and I’m very good at math. I am right brained because of the way I can be successful. I am better by having a partner to help me work. I always work better with a partner because I can talk through things. I love to learn when I can do it having fun. I can finish work quickly if I focus on the work. If I do my work around tons of noise I can’t do my work. I use
I’ve figured out the best way I learn is by using all the learning styles auditory, Visual, and kinesthetic together showing that I am well-balanced and have untapped potential utilizing my cognitive skills every time a difficult concept arises. An important foundation to grow my love for Engineering. Growing up I was always a curious boy always looking to be the first to find solutions to some of the typical problems a 1st grader might have like figuring out how to tie a lace, or which block of Lego goes where, at the time I did not have a clear depiction of what I wanted to become when I grew older however I enjoyed the idea of moving at rapid speed but wasn’t quite sure being a formula 1 driver was a career I saw myself doing forever as
I am a kinetic learner. I have to have something to do even if it's just tapping my foot. I can not sit still unless I'm reading or doing something else. I will always be moving in some way or another. I don't really like most sports like football or baseball. But I do like basketball and street hockey. I always want to do something. And my patience is very low.
Another few aspects I learned were my learning styles, personality types, and temperaments. These aspects of being a peak performer shed light on the inner workings of your mind to see how you handle different tasks. Some personality types include a visual learner; a person who prefers to see information and read the material, so they have a better understanding of the information given. An auditory learner; a person who prefers to rely on their hearing sense, to focus on different things such as lectures or audiobooks and summarize information out loud to process the information given. As well as a kinesthetic learner; one who prefers to physically touch things, and learn best by doing. Kinesthetic learners like hands-on activities and use models to write down information to
While creating this lesson plan, I made sure to cater to varying types of intelligences. For instance, I used images next to the examples I displayed to cater to visual learners. I made sound noises along with the pictures for musical-rhythmic and verbal-linguistic learners. I gave students the opportunity to discuss with their peers a time where they have used estimation, then gave them time to share with the class, to cater to interpersonal learners. I allowed students to examine the jars at the front of the class and even touch the materials inside for bodily-kinesthetic learners. Students who are intrapersonal learners could work independently throughout the lesson. Finally, the topic and exercises accommodated logical mathematical learners. Throughout the lesson, I asked students to share examples of when they have estimated and how they think it could help them in their everyday life. It was evident which students had a comprehensive understanding of the meaning of estimation based on our class discussion and by looking through their math workbook. The final task of having each student estimate how many skittles/marbles were in each jar
As a visual learner they would try to take notes during the lecture, would color code their notes, and pay attention to any visual aids that were being used. Where a kinesthetic learner would ask questions and participate in discussions, take a laptop for notes so that they are doing something actively with their hands during lectures, consider taking a three hour class versus one three hour class, Student Development Centre (2009). As a multimodal learner, it is easier to learn when doing more than just reading a textbook as it harder to understand than when doing something that is interactive.
I knew this before coming into the course, however, it was reaffirmed – I am a kinesthetic/tactile
Naturally, my eagerness to learn came about at a very young age. I always wanted to know how the human body worked. Growing up in the age of YouTube, I often poured over countless hours of videos learning simple concepts that I could easily understand at that time. As I grew I was always looking to learn something new. Finally, in high school I took advantage of College Now, a program where students in high school had access to college classes on a college campus while receiving college credits. While I was there, I earned a Certificate in Computer Science from CUNY Queens College. This eagerness to learn came about of a very simple reason. My parents had high aspirations for me since no one on either side of their families had ever gone beyond a high school education. They wanted me to be the first in the family to achieve a Bachelor’s degree. Finally in 2012, I graduated from St. Johns University with a
Kinesthetic learning involves the need for a student to touch and feel in their surroundings in order to retain information. People who are kinesthetic learning often become distracted and cannot focus due to their needs for more instruction and get their hands on items relating to the material. Kinesthetic learning is also known as tactile learning.
