Knowing how a student learns best is essential when embarking on a new educational journey. Everyone has different learning styles because of the way the brain receives and process new information. There are many approaches to learning one of these is the Kinesthetic learning. The purpose of this paper is to identify the different components of Kinesthetic learning, compare the different kinesthetic learning strategies and discuss how the kinesthetic style of learning may affect those teaching and those learning.
Kinesthetic Learning
The Vark Questionnaire How Do I Learn Best? Version 7.1, is a useful tool in helping to identify what kind of a learner a student is and the study strategies that apply to a certain learning preference. Kinesthetic

Simple movement such as chewing gum or taping of the foot or pencil can assist when studying (Laskey & Gibson, 2017). Other physical movements such as rocking, pacing or bouncing on an exercise ball can be implemented in the kinesthetic learner study habits (Vark, 2017). Although the student may learn that when testing movement may be needed in order to aid recall. Physical objects and tools can also be incorporated into their learning strategies such as stress balls.
Examples of Kinesthetic Learning
As a kinesthetic learner the student must understand the particular learning styles that assist best in retaining information. They will soon gravitate towards those styles naturally. The student will also learn that they must use more than one style in order to comprehend large amounts of information.
Experience shows that a kinesthetic learner must involve physical sensation and touching (Vark, 2017). For example this type of student will retain more information from a two hour lecture they are able to take breaks and stand or pace. It can be noted that this type of learner may have hastily lecture notes because listening to a lecture may seem irrelevant. Other kinesthetic students may learn best from role play or acting. This learning style works best in classes such as art or science where scientific experiments may be

Their efforts towards matching these learning styles help create an effective learning environment for all students. It is essential for educators to present information in various ways to students and respond and confer the material so that every type of learner can understand, in earlier grades teachers can easily incorporate manipulatives into lessons such as blocks for counting, or money to teach math concepts. Educators must be careful to not label this type of student as fidgety or problematic due to their disorganization and short attention
Through myriad lectures, I am finding that I learn best kinesthetically. Hands-on activities provide kinesthetic learners with a deeper understanding of material that they do not receive with lectures alone. Simply reading a textbook or following a power-point is great for note-taking, but I have found that notes are not enough for me. By actually doing, I benefit from practice, and the content is better stored in memory. Even with simple flashcards for memorizing vocabulary or historical dates, I will excel further than by skimming over a sheet of paper or by listening to the information repeatedly read aloud. If I achieve my goal of becoming a crime scene technician, my learning style will take me far because the job will require me to collect
After completing the questionnaire, it was determined that I am a strong kinesthetic learner. The results are not that surprising to me because I know that I learn the best by using examples to guide me and to use trial and error on certain problems. For example, in organic chemistry, I would use trial and error for the synthesis problems and I would heavily follow examples in class for drawing out mechanisms. Following given examples allow me to methodize how to do every type of problem using the examples. This strategy of methodizing helped me immensely in drawing out complicated reaction mechanisms. Instead of memorizing exactly what happens in each type of reaction, I simply looked at a few examples and noticed
They will write out steps or procedures of a process to retain the information. They also take notes and may rewrite the notes to memorize what was being written. This type of learner learns exactly by reading and writing. Learners with kinesthetic preferences require whole body movement and real life experiences to absorb and retain material to be learned. A kinesthetic learns best when they are involved in solving the problem. They like hands on approaches and learn by trial and error. This type of learner may make it difficult for a teacher to manage. A kinesthetic learner has to move in some kind of way in order for them to learn, this may make it difficult for the teacher to relay the information to the other students. Approximately five percent of the population picks things up through touch or
From the time of birth, individuals are constantly learning. Individual learning styles vary from person to person. It is essential to the education of the individual to learn the particular style of learning that best serves them. One particular analysis tool is the visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic or V.A.R.K. tool (VARK, 2011). This tool allows the individual to identify their particular learning style which will better prepare them throughout their education.
Results of the VARK self-assessment quiz indicated that I have a strong preference for kinesthetic and weak preference for Read-Write learning style. Second quiz for intelligence shows I have high percentage for Visual-Spatial and low for Rhythmic-Musical. Being a strong kinesthetic learner and with high Visual-Spatial intelligence, I will likely to teach by demonstration and less on reading and writing. Furthermore, I will have more hands-on and role-play and arts and crafts activities and less on reading and writing assignments. Create projects and activities in which all five senses (sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing) will be used. This style of teaching will benefit the kinesthetic learners with Visual-Spatial and Bodily-Kinesthetic
Kinesthetically the learner would then be putting it into practice by the writing of this paper. Finally, the reading of the paper. This final step is critical in creating a complete development of understanding of how the learner learns. The use of several methods that stimulate a variety of senses helps to activate the learning process (Edelman, Mandle, & Kudzma, 2014, p. 218).
“Just as students have different personalities, they also have different ways of learing (Slavin, 107).” Learning styles are another important factor to incorporate when implementing the best learning environment. Learning styles are defined as an individual's mode of gaining knowledge. The most common learning styles addressed are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Auditory leaners understand information through hearing. Visual learners need more visual aids in the learning process, such as diagrams, webs, or pictures. Kinesthetic learners learn better by using manipulatives or by being physically involved in the learning process. Learning styles is a piece of the “backbone” of differentiated learning. Both are used to individualize instruction to help students achieve the most success.
A kinesthetic learner learns best by moving their bodies to activate their large or small muscles as they learn. This definitely fits me to the T. I never sit still; my hand and mouth have to be constantly moving in order for me to focus and retain any information. It also explains why my first grade teacher sent me home with multiple letters stating that I needed to be put on Ritalin. But that’s not all. I also learned from
Learning is a unique process that differs from individuals due to the style in which they learn. Learning style refers to visual, kinesthetic, and auditory routes, which are the three perceptual pathways or modalities of learning (Miller & Stoeckel, 2011, p.155). The visual pathway involves sight, and how an individual benefits best through visual stimulation such as reading, pictures, movies, etc. (Miller & Stoeckel, 2011, p. 155). A kinesthetic learner, which focuses on body, sensation, and motion, benefits most from hands-on activities that include field-trips, computer assisted instruction, or models (Miller & Stoeckel, 2011, p. 155).
Gneeve Thomas November 3, 2015 The learning style that I identified with is kinesthetic. Kinesthetic is learning
I believe that children learn best through movement and believe that the learning style that has proven to be the most effective based on assessment results is the kinesthetic learning method or teaching style.
The information obtained by completing the Learning Style Inventory test was I am a kinesthetic learner (Bethel University, 2013). There are no surprises to the fact I am a kinesthetic learner I found this information out a few years ago going through testing for promotions. There were always issues for me in grade school to middle school with staying with the class and not daydreaming. By the time I got into high school I obtained the ability to use my auditory and visual learning styles to complete high school with decent grades. It is unfortunate that kinesthetic learners do not get the chance to use their interactive style of learning because it not represented in the classroom (Mobley, K., & Fisher, S. 2014). The point being most kinesthetic
I believe there is a need for students to understand and can construct geometric figures using a compass and straightedge. I believe that having the ability to illustrate figures with compass and straightedge is important because it will help you learn it, kinesthetic learning is hands on learning, what this is giving the student the ability to create and learn as they go. According to (https://www.familyeducation.com/school/multiple-intelligences/learning-styles-visual-auditory-kinesthetic) Kinesthetic learners are most successful when totally engaged with the learning activity. They acquire information fastest when participating in a science lab, drama presentation, skit, field trip, dance, or other active activity.
As a visual learner they would try to take notes during the lecture, would color code their notes, and pay attention to any visual aids that were being used. Where a kinesthetic learner would ask questions and participate in discussions, take a laptop for notes so that they are doing something actively with their hands during lectures, consider taking a three hour class versus one three hour class, Student Development Centre (2009). As a multimodal learner, it is easier to learn when doing more than just reading a textbook as it harder to understand than when doing something that is interactive.
Module 3 Assignment. PGCEi participant Just as there are multiple intelligences, there are several styles of learning. There are visual learners who prefer to learn by observation. Auditory learners who prefer to learn through listening and kinesthetic learners who prefer to learn through moving, doing and touching. A good teacher should try and incorporate all
