King Arthur Conflict

Conflict was displayed in two specific scenes of the movie. The first scene was when Toula?s parents are arguing about Toula going to school (Appendix A). Her father feels she should not go to school because girls don?t need to, and that she is fine doing what she is doing; working at the family restaurant. Her mother on the other hand, feels that Toula should go to school if that is what she wants. They go back and forth until Toula?s mom walks out. This argument is started because they both have different things they want. She ends the argument with a sarcastic comment, and it doesn?t get settled. Throughout their argument, neither of the two used any of the guidelines for conflict that we had learned about. Perhaps if guidelines were used the argument would not have ended on a bad note. Using such guidelines such as clarifying goals or using constructive criticism might have prevented the argument to begin with.

In the novel Fever, 1793, by Laurie Halse Anderson there is a lot of conflicts. I believe conflict is a situation or problem that one character or more are facing. These conflicts are the struggles of the fever, having to deal with the Ogilvies, and Mattie facing herself. Mattie’s perseverance while facing the challenges of getting through the fever, facing the Ogilvies, and facing herself and her doubts helped lead her from childhood to adulthood.

There are many different novels that show conflict. Conflict is shown in the well-known and engaging text; Fahrenheit 451 (F451) which was written by Ray Bradbury. The novel is set in a suburban, oppressive city in the 21st century, where books are banned. Guy Montag is a fireman; his job is to burn books because it is believed that they create discord & unhappiness. When Montag meets a woman named Clarisse, she asks if he has ever read a book – this makes Montag curious.

There are many similarities between the two poems on King Arthur's death. One main similarity is Gawain tells Arthur in a dream he is going to die. Another major similarity in the two poems is Bedivere puts King Arthur on the barge to be taken to Avilon to be healed.

With a lot of character, there are quite a number of conflicts happened inside the movie. The first kind is the man against himself conflict. This kind of conflict can be seen from the argument between Benjamin and Gabriel that resulted in Benjamin questioning his own resolves. In the two works, Le Morte d'Arthur and First Knight see two different versions of how king Arthur is portrayed. Yet the honor and respect that a king should have remains undisturbed, much like how both are products of their time. First Knight is told as a modern retelling of the legend and Le Morte d'Arthur is a minorly altered, much older work. While the depictions of king Arthur are seen as the paramount backbone for arthurian times, these two works have also proven to exhibit differences and similarities, illustrate Arthur’s figure in character, and serve as preservation of the time period.
