Once upon a time there was a very bold ruler whose name was King Pierce and he ruled over the land of Hobbinshire. He was known for being bold because when it came to making decisions he never backed down from what he believed in. Some rulers would let others make their decisions; but not Pierce he would always say, “What makes a great ruler is not what they do; but what they believe to be true.” One day while King Pierce was reading in his library. He loved to read and all the time his advisors had to pry books from his hands to focus on more important issues. His advisors would yell at him “Pierce it is time to discuss the monthly objectives of the kingdom and the defense plans incase of war.” Pierce was always one to hate making decisions. His father knew that would not bode well for him once he became king. “ You must learn to make tough calls, because if you choose wrong or too late than lives would be lost.” Pierce’s father would tell him in a stern voice. “ Father I know it will be tough; but I know I will make the right choices for in my heart I know what is true.” Pierce sat through the boring meetings and made the choices he thought were right. While sitting calming, Pierce noticed something out of the corner of his eye. He saw something reflecting in the water of the lake. He reached into the water to discover a small mirror which as he touched he seemed to be pulled into it. When he opened his eyes again he wasn’t near the lake, he seemed to be in the forest just outside the kingdom. He was confused to how he got here. Just as he was about to begin walking back home he noticed a bandit on horseback kidnapping what looked like a princess. Pierce began Chasing after them screaming “ Hey bandit you release her at once!” The bandit didn’t hear him and kept on

However, there is more to the king than what the rebel colonists made him out to be. King George’s reign of nearly 60 years was full of hardships and setbacks, yet he was a hard worker who was kind and looked out for the welfare of his empire.

Hrothgar, recognizing Beowulf’s nobility and strength, talks to him about how he should act to be a good ruler when he becomes king. The characteristics of good leadership that Hrothgar mentions still hold true today, through people like politicians, and business executives. Hrothgar’s sermon not only provides an insight into what leaders like these should do, it aims to bring to light what leaders should not do.

A great leader is able to recognize his limitations and how to overcome them. In the case of Beowulf, King Hrothgar foreshadows what is to come for Beowulf if he continues down the same path a previous king had gone. In his sermon, Hrothgar informs Beowulf of Heremod, a “pariah king who cut himself off from his own kind” (McArthur). Hrothgar says that God “allows the mind of a man of distinguished birth to follow its bent,” and because of this, cruel and greedy Heremod “forgets that it will ever end for him,” and “he ignores the shape of things to come” (McArthur). Warning Beowulf not to become like Heremod, Hrothgar advises him to “not give way to pride,” and that “for a brief while your strength is in bloom

If I had to pick out an accomplishment of George Washington Carver, I would choose the time he was rejected by Highland College in Highland, Kan due to the fact he was black, instead of him giving up. A powerful quote in the novel Pulse by Jeremy Robinson is said directly after Pierce discovers that he is invincible, but at the same time savage. He looks into a reflection in a metal cabinet and sees “green-tinged skin and bright yellow eyes. As the face in the reflection mirrored the expression of horror on his own face, he realized the awful truth. He was the monster,” (Robinson 154). This was a powerful quote because throughout his entire time working at Manifold, Pierce thinks of Ridley as a horrible person, and a monster. Now that Pierce looked was literally a monster and Ridley was still human, the roles were reversed, and this is a traumatic change for Pierce. However, this quote also puts things in perspective for the reader. It
The surname Boucher is a lot more common than you’d think. Many people share this name with Pierce, including several hockey players, an author, and a South African cricketer, who just so happens to have the first name as his dad. Who knows, maybe Pierce’s dad is secretly a cricket player. Anyways, there’s a lot more to Pierce than just his last name, and his Dad who may or may not travel to South Africa just to play cricket.
