Oedipus Tyrannus The story of Oedipus begins with the current king Laius and queen having a baby. As the story progress an oracle foretold what would happen to king Laius. After realizing his fate king Laius sent his child away with a Shepard to never be seen or heard of again. The shepherd let the boy live and when the boy grew up, an oracle that told him his fortune confronted him. In fear that one-day he will kill his father and married his mother he left the city to avoid his fate. Oedipus traveled to the city of Thebes and encounter Laius who pushed him over the edge and was killed by the hands of his own son. Continuing on his journey to Thebes he encounter sphinx, which he kills with his knowledge of riddles. …show more content…

Oedipus took on the throne and married widow queen. Eventually Oedipus and the queen had children of their own. Later realizing what the queen had done, Jocasta committed suicide. Oedipus ends up ripping out his eyeballs in shame of what he had done. Oedipus ends up leaving the city with 2 of his children and eventually dies. Now day’s people relate Oedipus with the father of psychology, Freud Sigmund. According to an article from simply psychology, Freud talks about how every child secretly have crushes and love their parent. In this case Oedipus loved his mother, but he did not know that and had children with his mother. When he found out what had happen it was too late. Oedipus was at the point of no return.
