Knowledge and Skills Attempting a wide range of positive activities could only make a person grow as an individual. I, myself, have grown from all that I have been involved in and all that I have encountered in my life. I have acquired knowledge and skills that I would have never acquired if I had not bothered to explore my surroundings. Examples of the organizations, events, people and places that have contributed to what I have acquired in non-academic areas are Grupo Folklorico “Sol Azteca,” Top Hat Theatre Company, the presenters at the Texas Crime Stoppers Conferences and my mother here at home.
As part of the Grupo Folklorico “Sol Azteca,” I have acquired knowledge in regards to the Hispanic Heritage. This has been due to the fact

It is about the same knowledge I gained by being in dance, except it is a different form of fine arts, in a different setting, and with different people. This experience has only added to my ability to apply the previous knowledge and skills that I have gained. Inclusively, I have gained leadership skills, since I happen to be the Historian for the Company and 73 individuals look up to me and to the example that I, as an officer, set. I have learned that theatre is a physical art in which there is no such thing as personal space. I have learned that my body speaks a language of its own on stage and that I must use it to portray exactly what comes out of my mouth. Additionally, in respect to when I speak, I learned that I must annunciate and work on my diction so that the people I talk to daily or who watch any performance will be able to clearly understand what is said. Moreover, I have learned that after material is rehearsed a thousand times, it becomes boring and the actors may lose interest in performing it as they once did. Despite that, an actor should always have the ability to display the illusion of the first time as if they had never in their lives endured repetition of the same …show more content…
Prior to those presentations, I did not even know that sexting existed and the problems that arose in the lives of those who engaged in the practice. Neither did I know that, to this day, individuals are suffering injustices like such with little or no pay. I have learned the difference between drugs such as cocaine and marijuana. I have learned of the people who lost their lives in the school shooting that occurred in Massachusetts and have learned of investigation methods that take place during a crime scene. This corporation has increased my knowledge about criminal justice and topics that are recent. Furthermore, it has sanctioned me to share this information with all who surround me so that they, too, can be well
Preview of Main Points: First, I will discuss the story of La Virgen de Guadalupe and the importance in the Mexican culture. Then, I will discuss how I identify myself with this culture and one experience in which I explain why la Virgen de Guadalupe is important to me.
Miguel Leon-Portilla author of Broken Spears- The Aztec Account of the Conquest of Mexico, tells the story of the Spanish conquest over the Aztecs from the Aztec point of view. It is more familiar in history that the Spanish led by Hernan Cortez defeated the Aztecs with a powerful army and established an easy victory all while having intentions to gain power and greed. However, Leon-Portilla focuses on the Aztec Empire and their story. Leon-Portilla does a great job giving readers the real occurrences and events from Aztec members. This paper argues that history must be told from all sides. It is more common to hear about the Spanish conquest
The author argues that the Spanish were completely at fault for the total destruction of the Aztec Empire. In Broken spears, the author explains how many factors other than Spanish power contributed to the downfall of the Aztecs. Not only did the Spanish have many advantages over the Aztecs, but also they also exploited them and took advantage of the cultural difference. The main key aspects to the Spanish victory, is that the Spanish were viewed as gods at first because of their appearance, the Aztecs welcomed the Spanish with gifts and festivities, which showed the Spanish had total control of people. The Aztecs also held a ritual ceremony for the arrival of the “god” that included a human

Before the 15th century, the Indians in the Americas were not connected with the world and would remain that way until Columbus's exploration. In the beginning of 15th century, the Aztecs were the dominant group in Mesoamerica leaded by Montezuma, the last leader, before the Spanish conquest. In 1519, Hernan Cortez led the Spanish mission to explore and conquer the New World. This paper will compare three primary sources about this event. First, an informing letter sent from Cortez to King Charles V, the king of Spain. Second, the Broken Spears which is an Indian recollection about the conquest of Mexico. Lastly, Bernal Diaz’s (one of Cortez’s men) account was written by him to share his experience with Aztec
In the book Daily Life of The Aztecs On the Eve of the Spanish Conquest by Jacques Soustelle you are walked through what life was like for the Aztecs. You are in 16th Century Mexico, or to them Mexico-Tenochtilan. Soustelle does an excellent job immediately putting you in character with the introduction of the book. Inga Clendinnen has had a fascination for the MesoAmerican area and it's history for over 30 years. Having wrote many books on the peoples and history of the region, her knowledge makes her well qualified to write a book such as Aztecs. The book is not one based on historical facts and figures, but one which is founded on interpretations of
The history writers Diego Duran and Pedro de Cieza de Leon were of the conquering Spanish forces and outsiders to the Aztec and Inca societies they described, and this led them to view both societies as outsiders but they were both also in a position to view the Aztec and Inca Empires from within the cultures and thanks to that they both created more objective accounts than those of the Spanish conquerers.1 Similarly, Miguel Leon-Portilla was also an outsider but made the genuine effort to study the Aztec from “indigenous” records in a way that also led to a more objective look, than the Spaniards gave, at the Aztecs.2 All three “outsiders” went to lengths to learn about the cultures they were writing about, and their personal viewpoints were not central, they made the cultures central, and this is why these accounts are more like reports from the societies than the views of the Spanish.

Representation” by Michael Schreffler argues that “ . . . early modern rhetoric and iconography . . . constructed a distorted view of painting in Aztec Mexico and entangled it in the conventions of colonial historiography” (407). This essay is effective because of its thorough examination of the accounts that explain a painting made by the Aztec’s at San Juan de Ulúa on Easter Sunday of 1519.
My whole life I have been invested in doing what I love, focusing on my true passions, as well as finding new ones. I have been very involved in my high school, and have been lucky enough to be a part of multiple clubs and activities. Without these activities, my high school experience and life would be a lot different. I have been an active drama club member, a part of ‘Bottlecappers,’ a club advocating anti-drug, alcohol, and bullying to younger students in my district, and many other community service opportunities. I am lucky to have the opportunity to be in these activities, as they have shaped me to be the young adult I am today.
The roles of women are useful to historians because they provide an insight into the life experiences, cultures, thoughts, and every day life of a historical period. Similarly this essay will examine the roles of women, which provide insight into the Aztec civilization’s many strengths. The Aztec child bearer/warrior, priestess and sexual being will be analyzed to display that gender relations were complementary that produced equality. The midwife and weaver reveal that the Aztec’s specialization proved successful through fields like medicine and the market. Finally the Aztec daughter and mother will be examined to show that the Aztec’s had a strong socialization system established through education and the family. For these reasons

While America’s tongue speaks mostly English, the Spanish language can be found immensely spread across forty-five million people. In the American Southwest, while Hispanics may speak English, they maintain their tradition, their Raza, every day. Often times, this tradition is seen as a mixture of the two different languages better known as Spanglish. There is a large population of Chicanos and Mexicans in America, and it is important that they know and keep the customs and culture of their people. You can’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been. Hispanic Culture has had a major impact on America over each generation.
I did not have prior acting experience excluding the time I was a lamb in our church’s nativity play. This time acting required I do more than bleat and sit still. Taking actors and their ability to remember and recite lines for granted;
