A college degree is needed to be successful in this world. This was drilled in most if not all students’ head throughout their school days. The pressure to be successful will drive most to pursue a college degree. Some students attend college for the love of learning and others for the desire of success. In the essay “What is College For?” Gary Gutting states, “Our support for higher education makes sense only if we regard this intellectual culture as essential to our society”. If we don’t consider learning and knowledge as a necessity pursing a college career is pointless. At a young age my grandmother drilled the importance of knowledge into me. Instead of giving toys on Christmas she gave books and told me education was the one …show more content…
If students don’t value the lesson taught in the course the information won’t be learned. In order to secure the lesson taught the student must have an interest for the subject or passion for learning. Without this interest or passion the student will only remember the information for the test not truly learning and obtaining the information. Gary Gutting argues, “Colleges and universities have no point if we do not value the knowledge and understanding to which their faculties are dedicated.” College is pointless and professors are wasting their time I we don’t value our education. The greatest gift of education is the gain rewarded to students. College is about learning new things and growing from the experience. Expect and be willing to gain from each course taken in college. Gain new knowledge that one didn’t know the day before. The saying “You learn something new everyday” has always excited me. My experience in college has made me realize the true meaning of that quote. Each day of class hold a new lesson of knowledge that was unknown to me the day before. Gaining this knowledge has made me a better and stronger person. Learning new things has strengthened my determination to learn. Once one learns something no one can rob them of that knowledge. The insight of knowledge one receives is apart of them forever. Knowledge is learned so it can be taught again to someone that it’s unknown to. The gain of knowledge I have received will
When it comes to the topic of attaining a college degree, most will readily agree that it is essential to securing a successful career post-graduation. Whereas some are convinced that a college degree does not guarantee entry into a career in one 's field of study nor does it determine success in one 's career, others maintain that a higher education is, in fact, the way to job security and financial success. What comes into question is whether the investment in a college education is truly worth it or not in order to accomplish a student 's goals of success. I think it could be said for most prospective college students that the reason for going to college is to gain the credentials required for most jobs today. What many of those potential students may not realize is the substantial percentage of graduates who do not acquire a job related to their majors, how much debt they will incur, and just how many students don 't graduate at all for reasons such as an overwhelming workload and a poor work/ life balance.
Also, if one attends college, he or she will learn continuous, practical information for life. People who have participated in college and have graduated having accomplished more now than they had ever imagined probable for them. College also teaches people to strengthen their minds, enhance thinking skills as well as improve individual comprehension throughout life. Some say the only meager men are those, who lack intelligence. If one has the opportunity to improve his or her standard of living, and provide a better quality of life for his or her family as well, then why would he or she neglect to accept the opportunity offered? Great opportunities due to a great education arouse daily so one needs to be aware of the lifelong consequences disregarding the attendance in college provides.
I believe in order to have a successful career, you must go to college. When you have a degree, you have many more jobs to choose from (U.S Dep. of Education, 8). Employers would choose a college graduate over a high-school graduate. In the modern world, most good jobs require a college degree (Middle Schoolers: Why College?, 1). Having a degree insures that I can get a job with the competitive world we live in. A college degree also shows that you have persistent. It shows that you will push through when times get tough. Future employers look for this sort of mind-set. College is a stepping stone into joining a work
We are told to “go to college” by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an explanation on why it’s important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It’s also important because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren’t many jobs that accept people with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know what they’re doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want, they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career.
In the essay “College Value Goes Deeper Than the Degree” author Eric Hoover claims a college education is important to one 's well-being so they can get a job and be productive in other parts of life. Promoters of higher education have long emphasized how beneficial college’s value and its purpose. Many believe the notion that colleges teach students are life skills to apply anywhere, they also work hard to earn a degree and learn specific marketable skills which they can use to get a good job. Though obtaining a college education and a degree is helpful in countless of ways, it is not necessary to pursue a college degree in world where a college degree is seen different now, people without turn out fine, the growing average of debt that students who attend college have to pay off and people without a degree can obtain many jobs that do not require college degrees.
There might be a time where people ask you, “why are you in college” or “why to decide to go to college.” People might reply by saying that they want a degree, that they want a higher paying job, or they need that for a future career that they are pursuing. Those responses are the most typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a person can get a better job with better pay rather than working in the manual labor fields with minimum pay. A college degree is the fundamental stepping stone to the future, it lays the foundation of where to start. College is everything to me; I’m in college so I’m able to unlock more potential in myself, to be able to make my mother proud with everything that she has done and hopefully becoming the first.
The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. As
The whole idea that students don’t really need a college education in today’s society is questionable, because employers will often hire someone based on whether or not they have a degree, as well as their past experiences. In many cases today, the people that are making a reasonable amount of money either have a college degree or invented/discovered something that ended up making them wealthy. If you’re one of the lucky few who have invented or discovered something of significance, then you may not need a college degree. For the many of us who aren’t as fortunate, however, a college degree is a
For as long as I could remember, my whole family would constantly tell me how important education is. Every day my father would say that if I wanted a stable life and a well-paying job that I needed to stay in school and go to college unless I wanted to be flipping burgers for the rest of my life. Even now that I am in college, I am still being reminded how education can take you anywhere. College can open many doors for people that want a better life and a well-paying job. Obtaining a college degree can benefit someone in the long run and also prepare them for the real world.
College is a great place for many to experience new things and to further education. However, college is not for everyone. According to the film Ivory Tower, college teaches people valuable skills such as networking with peers and extensive knowledge. College also provides students, upon graduation, with a degree and proper credentials. Based on a survey done by the Pew Research Center; the article “The Rising Cost of Not going to College,” states that “economic analysis consistently find that college graduates regardless of generation are doing better than those with less education,” this shows that there is a reasonable gap between a college degree and a high school diploma. On the other hand, it may not be worth the rising costs. Carolina Bird, author of “Where College Fails Us,” mentions in her article “in the current slowdown it has become evident that there were never, and probably never will be, enough jobs requiring higher education to go around,” (59-60) this shows some people's job outlook may not be aligned with their major. Jeffrey Selingo’s article “Is College Worth the Cost? Many Recent Graduates Don’t Think So,” says that “nearly half of college graduates in their 20s are underemployed, meaning the jobs they have do not require a bachelor’s degree,” this brings up the possibility of college not being beneficial to many. College can be needed because of higher salaries after graduation and providing people with the tools to succeed. On the contrary, going to
A College degree doesn’t only require hard work, but also a lot of money which can lead to conflict. Students might get discouraged to continue with their education because of how much it costs. Having a college education provides the benefits of better job opportunities, higher salaries, and improves

For others, college is needed for them to carry out their dreams. College should not be regarded as some sort of special club that only the “elite” are a part of. College should be looked at as a choice. A choice that absolutely anyone can make at any
Why is it important to achieve a college degree, certificate or diploma? Generally speaking, what is the importance of having a college education? This is a question that I have been debating and fighting with myself for the past five years. Is it because with a college education a person can get a better job, earn more money and ensure himself of a better life? Or is the whole concept of college a fraud and a scam to manipulate individuals in feeling inferior without it? In this paper, I am going to enlighten you of the pros and cons of having a valid college education and what it means to me.
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever been questioned about your dream career, or what you want to achieve as an adult, or even now. Chances are you have, but, did you ever take the time to really think about that question and finally distinguish that you want to be an Astronaut or a Surgeon or maybe even a Scientist? Well, if you did then there’s almost no doubt that you’ll need to attend college to acquire the certain level of skills you need to become that person that you dream to be. Obtaining a college degree will almost guarantee that more and more opportunities will come knocking on your door because a college degree is a stepping stone to success and companies and businesses are very much aware of that. Success is what people are looking for and a degree verifies that you qualify to achieve great things. Oh, and did I forget to mention that that vast majority of people with a college degree make a lot more money than people with just a High School diploma or being a High School drop out for that matter. However, aside from qualifying for an immeasurable amount of career options, a College education has shown to help with communicating with others, which might not just help with job benefits, but also with relationships on another level.
