A Powerful Punishment Policy At Noble Street College Prep, they have students pay for various infractions. “Noble collected almost $190,000 in discipline “fees” from detentions and behavior classes.” A discipline policy is used to make students behave and follow rules. There is a rewarding and punishing policy where students are supposed to be improving. While it is true that the rewarding policy may work, I believe that Konawaena Middle School should have the punishing policy, because when students are being punished, they are behaving during school, focused on their classes while getting superior grades and even with the policy students still have responsibilities for their work.
In the article “Pay Up!” in paragraph 3 it states “...while fights can be an almost daily occurrence in some urban high schools… there’s only about one a year on each Noble campus.” This shows that students are behaving better than other schools

He also said students never would be held back a grade solely because they couldn’t pay” This shows that not only the fees are sometimes forgiven, but the unpaid fees won’t stop a kid from repeating a grade. As a result, nothing is keeping your kid from doing bad in classes or being held back a grade. This proves that the punishment policy works because your kid has responsibility for his/her grades from the policy which should keep them not getting in trouble.
A discipline policy should get a student to follow rules in a well behaved matter. The punishment policy punishes students who don’t have that well behaved attitude. And, the rewarding policy rewards the students who have the marvelous behavior. Therefore, a punishing policy works better because it gets students to behave while concentrating and being responsible for the grade they achieve. Students will do better in school in general with the punishment
Mark Strand once said,” Old ways won’t open new doors.” Strand meant that doing things the old way or having old things doesn’t give an opportunity for new beginnings and better things or ideas. The article titled “School Choice: Build New or Not?”, talks about unsafe and unhealthy environments that could impact the students and budgets. It is important to rebuild Lincoln Junior High School, built in 1923, in Plymouth, Indiana because it will give students more learning opportunities and fix some health/safety issues. Others believe that it is a better idea to renovate the school.
I plan to establish discipline by warning those students who misbehave at first giving them two chances to act appropriately. If a student still misbehaves, I will cut their privilege to go outside down by five or ten minutes according to the severity of their inappropriate behavior. If a child still misbehaves, I will take the issue to
rewards and sanctions – we aim to create a healthy balance between rewards and sanctions with both being clearly specified. By implementing these we aim for pupils to learn to expect fair and consistently applied sanctions for inappropriate behaviour and to ensure we retain a safe and positive learning environment.
Recently, the Junior Civitan Club held a charter ceremony to officially recognize the club as part of Junior Civitan. This was a very momentous occasion for not only members and sponsors of the club, but for the school as well.
Do you think Conroe high school should change there rules. I think conroe should change the hat rule to be able to where it in school.
In all grades of education, from kindergarten to college, there is a form of discipline known as a zero tolerance policy. While the exact wording is different from school to school, basically a zero tolerance policy means that a student is immediately suspended, asked to attend an alternative school, or expelled if they are suspected or caught doing certain things. These policies are in place to hopefully deter students from doing drugs or being violent, but the ethics behind them are questionable. Some research has shown that these policies may not even work, and other forms of discipline would be better suited to help students. The three main activities that result in the zero tolerance policy are being caught with drugs or alcohol,
This social issue has been in the spotlight for quite some time now and is the leading cause for students to miss school, become less social, cause self harm and even in some cases death. Bullying and harassment are commonly seen for the most part amongst teenagers who face issues at school, not only does this happen here in the United States, but in schools universally. ¨17% of American students report being bullied 2 to 3 times a month or more within a school semester¨ (Valerie). Although this is mostly seen among teens it can also happen between children and even adults. Bullying can occur everyday throughout Madera High School and no one would be able to acknowledge or stand up for the victim. Vice Principals at MHS have said that more
In the early months of 2002, Juneau-Douglas High School in Juneau Alaska, held a school-sponsored and faculty supervised event, held off of school property, to observe the Olympic Torch pass through their area. When television cameras began to turn in the direction of a group of students, they unfurled a banner with the phrase “BONG HiTS [sic] 4 JESUS”. The school principle, Deborah Morse, told the students to remove the banner and one of them named Joseph Frederick refused, compelling Morse to confiscated the banner claiming it promoted illegal drug use and suspended Frederick [1]. The school district superintendent supported Morse and permitted the suspension, stating the banner was in violation of school policy by endorsing the use of
Mt. Vickson High School contains a little over 1,000 students total. It's a small high school in Connecticut that doesn't have much recognition. My last 3 years working here have been interesting. Fresh out of college, I applied for a job teaching science or math. I applied at many other schools, but the Mt. Vicks school board got back to me very quickly and offered me a choice: either honors and scholars biology or essentials and scholars algebra 1. Although both were strong suits of mine, I had been an honors student all my life and my biology teacher had inspired me to become a teacher in the first place. I knew I needed the job so I came for an interview and signed the papers. It felt right to take the job teaching junior biology. That
Synopsis: This article talks about a fight involving about 50 students leaving Asbury Park High School last week that caused damage to nearby property has prompted police to increase patrols at dismissal time. The police in the area have seen an increase in complaints from neighbors about unruly high-school aged children jaywalking, obstructing traffic and being disorderly. This dispute raises questions from parents and neighbors about the safety of children, property that has been damaged and why these students are acting out. The population has been said to have been through so much trauma
Every high school student is eager to move forward with their educational career once they graduate, for some going to college may be a breeze for the reason that they are financially stable, but for the rest of us like myself we have to go through student loans and debt just to pay off half of the tuition. Growing up in a Hispanic household plays an important role in my academics. I knew that money didn’t grow on trees as well as getting the never ending lectures from your parents about how education is the key to living a successful life. Not only am I fortunate enough to live a different life than my parents did, but considering the fact that Zapata High School offers every student to take college classes as long as they take and pass the
Look into a classroom and one would see that collective punishment has long been used to elicit good behavior from students, but it is time for a closer look. Using tactics of peer pressure to try to enforce rules on surrounding students does not tend to work. Teachers who use collective punishment usually find more resentment from their students rather than the good behavior they are looking for, which begs the question, why do we still think of collective punishment as an effective way to make people conform? Using collective punishment goes against equality between students, and the equity of the classroom. Schools should not enforce collective punishment as a technique to correct behavior, since it can be harmful to innocent students, is ineffective at correcting behavior long-term, and can help instruct students to manipulate others with peer pressure.
Alarm clocks will always ring, but the burning question is: at what time should they ring? At Laguna Beach High School, kids are forced to wake up at 6:00 a.m. and get to school by 7:25. While the school argues students should get to bed earlier, so they have the energy to wake up in the morning and do all they need to do to get ready for school students say it’s not possible; and not the way to go. By starting school later, students can retain more information, students can get enough sleep, and students can have fully functioning brains. The school administrators need to act immediately to alter the bell schedule in the morning, by delaying the time school starts.
Schools have discipline policies to reduce violence on campus, to promote positive behavior and to increase the likelihood of college enrollment.
School discipline is to ensure that students and the campus staff are safe and peaceful. According to the U.S. Department of Education on Rethinking Discipline (2017), “Teachers and students deserve school environments that are safe, supportive, and conducive to teaching and learning.” The idea is to decrease bad behavior and school violence which will lead to fewer suspensions and expulsions. There are rules and limitations when it comes to student discipline; there are acts in which students can and must be disciplined. For examples, if a student quality’s for special needs some different guidelines protect them under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act’s (IDEA). Furthermore, the Education Code, Section 48900 was implied to discipline students who committed any wrongful doing such as attempting or threatening to physical harm another person. In the case f any wrongfulness, the student is forced to be disciplined by being suspended or expulsed from school.
