A role model can be just about anyone that influences how another person behaves, reacts, or thinks, in a positive way. A courteous man, a complete stranger to another, holds open a door for a frail old woman. One may consider said man to be a good role model, simply due to his chivalrous deed. This proves that a person does not need much more than good intentions and some initiative in order to be a good role model. Therefore, being a good role model does not require as much of the skill as required to be a good leader.

In the story “Marble Champ” by Gary Soto, the protagonist is a 12-year old girl named Lupe. Lupe is smart but horrible at athletics. Lupe is a role model because she is a hard worker, determined, and intelligent. More people should try to be like Lupe. With role models around, the world becomes a better place.

Harper Lee, who at the time was a 34 year old white woman, decided to express her thoughts on the subject of racial discrimination through her award winning book To Kill a Mockingbird. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is a good role model because he defends Tom Robinson, he wants the best for his children, and he is truthful.

My role model is Alex Wassabi but to start off I am going to talk about what it means to be a role model. A role model is a person you admire. They may inspire you or you may want to be like them. Most role models have a positive influence on you and make you feel something inside.

Role models are individuals that set upon a good example. You went above that, threw your own life in a ditch just to save those who cannot possibly think twice of what they do. The unthinking ways of a teenager can lead to a torn family, or an illegal issue. If only we payed more attention to the ones who stand so much taller than us. We could learn to stand just as tall, or even taller.

There’s one famous person that comes to mind who represents myself as a good role model and that person is Jim Carrey. He played in one movie, which is called Liar Liar, and to this day the movie has always held a strong meaning to me. The movies he has played in has always brought me joy and laughter. Jim has throughout the years stood up for many causes and is an avid supporter of charities. These are the reasons why I look up to Jim Carrey as a role model.

This paper will discuss the two different types of role models, both positive and negative, and why they are crucial for a person’s mental and physical development. I will define what a positive and negative role model is to me, and will also discuss how a negative role model is not someone who is a bad influence, but rather someone who’s mistakes can be learned from in order to prevent someone else from making the same mistake in the future. This paper will talk about my positive role model, Shannon Smith, my negative role model, Amanda Bynes, and why they have influenced me and how they have impacted my life, making me the person that I am today. In this paper, I will also discuss how they have become the people that they are today, and will include personal experiences that I have shared with my positive role model, and mistakes that I have learned from because of the choices that my negative role model has made that have had an unfavorable impact on her future.

A child’s role model really does determine where they go in life. A good role model goes to school, pays attention, does not distract others, and doesn’t cause trouble. Also they don’t take shortcuts and take the long way to reach their goals. In the novel Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain, Tom is not a good role model because he is always causing trouble and is always tricking people into things.

My chosen role model is my mother. My mother has worked as a full time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for over 30 years. She started working when she was 16 and is still working today. As a child she went through some tough times and would sit me down and tell me about all of these horror stories of her childhood. She told me about time when her parents were so poor that they had to eat canned food to survive. Her family always had gardens and farms because they were so poor. She describes that experience as hard but definitely an eye opener. She told me stories about how she was never allowed to participate in activities at school and often had to skip school in order to go to work to help feed the family.

Most people would say that in order to be considered a good role model, you first need to be considered a good person. A good person is typically a person who has empathy for others, tries their best to make good decisions, and follows the law. After reading this description, of what a good person is, celebrities would not typically be the first group of people that would pop into your head because of their bad reputations, but that doesn't mean that all public figures are known for their bad choices. Celebrities should be famous for their talents and skills in some sort of field, or they could just have a great life story and have done great things in their life which inspired people to do the same. After all, everyday people run red lights all the time and no one would ever know, but the moment a celebrity gets one traffic ticket, it will be instantly posted all over every single magazine and news station. Public figures should be considered role models because, many public figures can serve as inspiration to do great things and a great example of what can happen if you make bad decisions.

The influence that role models have over young people is vast and great. Role models can affect a young person’s beliefs, or possibly change their entire outlook on life. Young people may want to imitate the desirable traits they see in role models. Role models can also have an effect on one’s decision-making process.
