Summary
The purpose of this memo is to discuss my findings when I performed my safety walkthrough of building 400 for the jobsite Alexan on Krog. Overall, I was disappointed and in disbelief on how the corridors of this building were, and that is a big safety concern. We need a new solution, because what we are doing right now is not working. A new system of cleaning should be put in place.
Discussion
In every jobsite that we have, trash and cleanup seems to always be our biggest problem and concern because this is a big safety issue. Working safe and having a safe work place is our number one priority, not only for our employees, but for other fields and residents found on our job site. When the owners and possible residents are allowed on-site, they are allowed a walkthrough and their safety is our number one priority. Not only has that, but the first impression they get when they see the job matters tremendously.

We currently have two dumpsters on-site. These are located behind building 200 and beside the parking deck. I have made sure that they are replaced every other day to ensure that we have empty dumpsters on-site. I did this to ensure there would be no excuses as to why our corridors and parking deck are left in a mess. Material including, sheetrock, base, shoe mold, and passage doors were found in every corridor and blocking off the stairs on the second and third floor.
We have many inspections coming up, and being able to get pass them depends on whether we have proper safety measures in place. If we continue to have this mess and material blocking up corridors, we are in for a troublesome month. Although we have done a decent job in the past weeks with trash, I think we need to put a new cleanup method in action.
Rubbish must be removed daily before children are allowed to enter the area e.g litter, broken glass and animal mess.
Before I start work, I ensure that the environment is spacious to avoid any accidents. By ensuring that the floor is dry and clear of any obstruction or material that could result to risk of an accident to both the service user and member of staff in line with Health and Safety first Aids Regulations 1987. I carry out checks on the residential areas and on the surroundings, fire checks and parked the wheelchairs and Zimmer frames in their appropriate places to avoid any accidents. I check to see that all doors and windows were locked and secured and areas are hazard
As a health care professional, I will help to ensure that work environment is safe by following the rules. Trashing materials in appropriate cans is the most important for all employees in the building. Knowing my responsibilities for my own health and safety in the workplace. If I found something unsafe condition, I will report immediately to my employer. Using personal protection equipment is important for your own safety.
health and safety procedures and practises should be under continual scrutiny and areas for improvement should be monitored and dealt with. A good method of monitoring & improving are health, safety and security procedures are visually. Check visitors have signed in the visitor’s book, look for items blocking fire exits or hallways, wet signs are in place during cleaning, COSHH cupboards are kept locked, medication trolleys are secure, hoists are clean and stored in a correct storage place. Policies and procedures need to be reviewed regularly to ensure they are still relevant, circumstances in workplace can change and new risk assessments will need to be put in place or old ones reviewed. Policies and procedures may need evaluating and developing
In “Picking Up” Robin Nagle enthusiastically describes why New York City’s Department of Sanitation is so significant to our day to day city life. This department picks up about 11,000 tons of trash as well as 2,000 tons of recycling daily. If it was not for them the city would be completely unlivable. As the anthropologist-in-residence for New York City's Department of Sanitation, Robin Nagle explains with many explanations why The Department of Sanitation is so vital and why they are just as important as any police officer or fireman out there. If it was not for those men and woman who remove our trash and recyclables, our city would be completely over run with trash. Not only is this completely disgusting, but there are so many diseases
- Though a company that handles the physical trash removal will take the trash away, you could be left with a considerable mess to clean up on your own. Often, the company will remove all of the garbage, but some debris gets left behind. If you do not check with the company, there is a good chance that they will tell you they are not responsible for clean-up. So, make sure that you ask them this and hold them accountable if necessary.
All employees of Robinson’s Excavation are valued members of the organization which is why safety must always come first. Another safety issues that was just resolved was leaving the trash can in front of the door once the Administrative Assistant left for the day. The staff did this because on the second floor we cannot hear the doorbell when it rings. Once the Administrative Assistant leaves for the day, there is no one there to open the door. It’s dangerous to have the trash can keep the door open. Anyone can walk through those doors. I sometimes go downstairs after the Administrative Assistant leaves on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s so that I can open the door for the clients.
Facilities – we check the facilities every day for any hazards or dangers such as wet floors/hall way and any hazards that could cause accidents such as tripping over objects or slipping on wet floors. We must make sure all exits are clear and accessible in case of a fire alarm or emergencies. We check the indoor/outdoor environment
People tossing out trash means that they don’t care what happens to it as long as it’s out of their car or house. People should think of the impact they can cause the environment if they recycle properly, reusing water bottles, and when they go grocery shopping bring a reusable bags that won’t be thrown out into streams and lakes that will cause pollution to the environment. If someone throws garbage where it shouldn’t belong then throw it out for them to keep the environment clean.
Our residents have trash bins that they load their trash into then they put it out in front of their house on a certain day of the week. Then we have trash men that
There are some reasons for the problem. The first reason is that the effects of the thrown rubbish are very dangerous and extremely harmful. According to Miller (1987), global industrial organizations produce over 80,000 different chemicals (para. 5). Basically, garbage is old, dirty and wet, so that it is a perfect place for bacteria and other viruses to stay in. Rubbish growth in cities has been a problem all over the world for centuries. Landfills have always been regarded as sources of illnesses and unpleasant smells. The harmful wastes from the garbage spread through the ground from paint, chemicals, petrol, batteries, and other toxic materials that have been thrown away into the garbage. The toxic chemicals get into the water pipes and spread through the people’s drinking water. Another reason of that problem is that people have created all these disasters, which are connected with environmental pollution. The more modern technologies are created, the more unbelievable become wastes and remains of what is produced. From this, man is responsible for what he or she created and for the following consequences. Anxieties about the environment have made people more aware of their environmental footprints or the kind of waste they leave behind during their existence. The difficulty is that an average person leaves an incredible amount of wastes in his or her lifetime. According to Lovejoy (1912), all biodegradable substances, contained in
It is evident that even students of elite schools throw garbage on the ground even in the presence of garbage bins. This shows our attitude towards cleanliness and hygiene.
