These two articles that I have chosen are, Jimi and Janis. Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix?
On February 26, 1932, a legend of country music was born. Johnny Cash, also known as J.R. Cash, was born in Kingsland, Arkansas, and was one of seven children to Ray and Carrie Rivers Cash. At the age of three Johnny and his family moved to Dyess, Arkansas for his father to take on a job at the New Deal farming programs initiated by President Franklin Roosevelt ("Johnny Cash Biography"). The next fifteen years of J.R.’s life was spent farming over twenty acres of cotton fields and other seasonal corps. The Cash family did not live an easy life, but they had to work hard every day in order to pay off their debts.
To some the term folk music was ‘the music of peasants’. Pete Seeger, who was nicknamed the “father of American folk music,” by Bruce Springsteen, did not like that term, because he was no peasant.
Johnny Cash, born J.R. Cash, was one of seven children born to parents Ray and Carrie Cash in Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932. The Cash family was a farming family, hit hard by the Depression of the 1930’s. They spent a majority of their time farming to make money, and when there was little to no work left to be done, the family would relocate. When Cash was two, the family was chosen by the government to move to Dyess, Arkansas to grow cotton as a part of a limited community working towards economic recovery. The family attended the communities Baptist chapel every Sunday, which developed Cash into an inspiring Christian. At the age of twelve, his best friend and brother, Jack, was killed in a table saw accident while working at an agricultural shop. The death of his brother along with all of the negativity he felt in Dyess made him search for an escape. He began to take long walks at night while humming music, and he decided music would take him through all of his dark places. Cash attended Dyess High School, and after graduating, he hitchhiked to Pontiac, Michigan to take a job at an automobile constructing plant. He hated it and returned home a few weeks later, when his family decided to pack up and leave Dyess. It was then that he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force, and he would

Weird Al Yankovic was a little late taking the stage on the BMO Harris Pavilion at Summerfest on July 4th. Although he was just 15 minutes behind schedule, the lateness is more noticeable at festivals- considering the bigger acts tend to perform at the same time and most people try to watch as many shows as possible. Nonetheless, Yankovic took the stage at 10:00pm and ironically opened his set with "Tacky." He definitely had a ton of loyal fans in the audience, and so the energy in the building was at an all time high. Yankovic's career spans over 20 years, and he did his best to cram all of his biggest hits into one set. His set also included "Perform This Way," "Dare to Be Stupid," "Fat," and "First World Problems."

Murder is explained by The Oxford Dictionary as the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. Courtney Michelle Love (previously Courtney Michelle Harrison) is an American rock musician and actress who was born on July 9th, 1964 in California. Growing up, she felt neglected by those around her. After her parents got divorced, Courtney seemed out of control, as she didn’t know how to cope with it. She was then raised by her mom for a few years, but Courtney was so intolerable that she was abandoned by her. She jumped from foster home to foster home and found herself all alone. She got into trouble plenty of times with money, legal issues, careers, and substance abuse, yet she persevered. Courtney Love is an inspiration to me because she strived to get what she wanted, formed a band that is one of the main reasons I play the guitar, and successfully cleaned up from substance abuse after a long battle with it.

As a child, Cobain’s main influence was Evel Knievel, and he was determined to be reckless and fearless like his hero. As Cobain grew older, however, his influences became primarily musical, and included Neil Young, nicknamed the “Godfather of Grunge,” the Beatles, and various alternative bands (DeRogatis, para. 8). His major accomplishments were his recordings, as Cobain was known as a lyricist more than a musician, despite his short-lived career.
