Kurt Warner would be rated in the cheerleader quadrant on the scale of managerial incompetence. The season after Super Bowl XXXVI, Kurt injured his hand. He was able to recover but still struggled. In the 2003 Season Opener game Kurt fumbled six times and was benched for Mark Bulger. Even though Kurt was benched he still encouraged the team and kept a positive environment. Kurt worked within this quadrant because even though he wasn't playing he was always supportive of Mark. Kurt would be as excited about Mark as he'd be for himself. Another example is during the 2003 playoffs. The Rams began to fall apart and during this scene #81 Torry Holt became frustrated but Kurt was able to talk him down. The final time Kurt displayed he was in the cheerleader quadrant was in 2004. Kurt was drafted by the Giants but was later benched for Eli Manning. Eli Manning had lost 8 games in a row, but Kurt refused to create a quarterback controversy. During the Ravens VS Giants game, the giants switched out Manning for Kurt. Later after the game Kurt said he didn't think that the Giants should turn to him in a relief situation. This showed that even though he was able to play, Kurt still supported Eli Manning when he wasn't at his best. Kurt Warner's 3 significant bases of power are referent, reward, and expert. Kurt's referent power is displayed during the Rams VS Lions game when the team started to fall behind. Throughout the game Kurt took his hits from the defense and his team noticed this.
