In 2009 there was an earthquake in L’Aquila that killed 309 people. There were six italian scientists and a former government official that were sent out to determine the magnitude of the 2009 L’Aquila earthquake. They were unable to correctly predict the earthquakes magnitude. These men were sentenced to 6 years in jail because of their false prediction. I do not think that they should have been punished for what they came up with because of how unpredictable earthquakes are.

In 2009 the six Italian scientist and one former government official were prosecuted with 6 years in jail for not predicting the deadly L'Aquila Earthquake. Each of the scientist were accused of manslaughter as the Earthquake kill 309 people on April, 6 2009. As it states in a BBC News article “In addition to their sentences, all have been barred from ever holding public office again.” This meaning that they have lost the chance to be able to run for anything in the public office. This is because of the fact that technology these days leave people incapable of predicting earthquakes. People knew that earthquakes were unpredictable as it states in a BBC News article “After the verdict was announced, David Rothery, of the UK's Open University, said earthquakes were "inherently unpredictable" Also the 2012 Washington DC earthquake was the most unpredictable thing that I have ever experienced. In this situation it is as if you were going to charge someone that has access to the public and gives them false information about something. Just like forecast people, they are wrong about the weather all the time but they are charged for giving the public false information about the weather. But in this sense science is all about observation and the things that you learn as you go along. Therefore there was no way for the scientist to be able to predict the magnitude of the
