I am submitting this Academic Petition to have the Leadership 302 Leadership Theory and Practice class I took last semester fulfill my General Education 2 requirement in the Philosophy/Ethics/Religion (P2) distribution area. I have several good reasons why I believe the LEA 302 class should fulfill this requirement instead of the Social Science (S2) requirement the class fulfills in my catalog (2014-2015 catalog). I will explain my reasoning in this letter, as well as provide supporting coursework examples that are attached to this petition.
Before I start discussing why LEA 302 should count as my Philosophy/Ethics/Religion (P2) course, some key background information regarding what I have already taken to fulfill my General Education requirements

Pages 1-17 of the attachments highlight several PowerPoints used in the LEA 302 class that directly mention or relate to ethics. These sections of PowerPoints were taken from seven different PowerPoints used throughout the duration of the LEA 302 course. This number represents roughly half of the total presentations given during the entire class. The excerpts I have attached to this petition are only those that directly discuss ethics. Pages 1 through 11 of the attachments contain examples of slides that discuss ethics. Pages 12 through 17 represent an entire PowerPoint devoted to analyzing ethics and leadership. If one were to look at some of the other PowerPoints used for the course that were not included as attachments, one would also find many topics/information that relate to or have undertones of ethics. The attachments presented, again, represent only those slides that directly mention or discuss ethics (or topics related to ethics). I am more than willing to provide all PowerPoints in their entirety for this committee to look over. The book for this class also discussed leadership ethics in almost every chapter (if proof of this is needed, I would again be willing to find a way to get this proof to the …show more content…
This project was service oriented and was intended to show students how community involvement and attention to various stakeholders has become a cornerstone for today’s leaders. Pages 18 through 19 of the attachments is a direct excerpt from the professor’s course syllabus describing the required group project in detail. I am also willing to provide the committee with information regarding my group’s specific project and what we did, but the inclusion of the syllabus excerpt is to demonstrate that a service project was included as a requirement for the course and was intended to show students how leadership relates to
Some things change, some things stay the same. The National Education Association (NEA) adopted a code of ethics in 1975 (Strike & Soltis 2009, p. viii). While this code still upholds many concerns that educators face today, it is important to make sure that a code of ethics is a breathing document. It must adapt and change with the changing of time. Strike and Soltis (2009) reference the code of ethics quite regularly throughout the entire book. It is first introduced in full at the beginning of the book. Looking over the code, it is important to remember that much has changed since it was first adopted. While all of the code still applies, it is necessary to add to the code to make it acceptable for the twenty-first century.
In learning unit 1 I was educated about Ethics, Politics, and Diversity. This unit discussed whether or not actions are ethical. Ethics is a moral standard of right and wrong. For example, one time I noticed someone cheating on an exam and I didn’t know if it was right or not to let my substitute teacher know that the student was cheating. I didn’t want to be called names if the cheater found out. So, I messaged my dad and asked for his advice whether or not I should tell. My dad told me that I should leave it alone unless I was certain that the student was cheating. Therefore, I didn’t let my teacher know. This furthered my knowledge by applying ethics to this situation because now I know that personal values and morals impact my ethical behavior. If I didn’t have strong personal values and morals then I wouldn’t of cared if the student cheated or not. Furthermore, attitude in learning unit 1 changed my perspective on situations. For example, I value scrapbooking and scrapbooking costs a lot of money for all the materials
An ethical audit is important to establish the company’s current weaknesses and strengths concerning how it conducts itself in an ethical manner. An ethics audit will involve evaluating the company’s standard of ethic, it ethic climate, and how well the company’s employees follow ethical standards. One of the first things to evaluate in an ethics audit is if a company has a written code of ethics and how comprehensive it is. Moreover, the written code of ethics should apply to everyone in the company from the top down with a clear zero tolerance policy in place for ethics violations. Included in a comprehensive ethics code should be a method for

According to the instructions, Dr. Dickerson did not include in the syllabus how many pages intended for the essay assignment. Also, the six ethical principal that I included in my essay is the fundamental principle of the entire ACA Ethical Standards Casebook, Herlihy, B. C. G and Corey (2014). In brief, I am humbly requesting all points (13.5) restored from the content and organization selection of the rubric.
Ethics are a set of moral principles that guide our behavior. As a discipline, ethics deals with what is good and bad as well as questions of moral duty and obligation. In the workplace, ethics are a set of principles of conduct governing an individual or group. In this course, we will discuss the difference between personal and professional ethics, ethical behavior toward youth, as well as the specific ethical requirements in state law and the agency’s policies, or general rules of conduct, we must follow at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). We will also discuss what you are obligated to do if you see or know of someone making an inappropriate

Ethics training is to be provided to each and every employee on an annual basis. New employees are expected to take this training within the first thirty days of their start date. Failure to successfully complete training will result in disciplinary action up to and including
For this training/staff development class, staff members will gather in a room and be given an outline and handouts for the presentation. Once, everyone is situated the presentation will begin. For this presentation I will be presenting to my staff about The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Code of Ethical Conduct. Staff members will be presented with information about Ethnics, as defined by NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct glossary “Ethics is the study of right and wrong, or duty and obligation that involves critical reflection
So far, the discussion I have had the strongest reaction during, is the one that occurred after the Julea Ward v. Board of Regents of Eastern Michigan University case was brought to the attention of the class. This case is an example of ethical issues which are referenced during A.11. Termination and Referral, specifically A.11.b. Values Within Termination and Referral. Ward was in direct conflict with the ACA Code of Ethics, when she referred a prospective client based on her personally held values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors against homosexuality. Even though this case occurred during 2009, it struck a chord with me because religious freedom issues have been extremely relevant in the news recently. For example, I have recently heard of at least two states, Georgia and Mississippi, that have introduced different bills to legislature surrounding the topic of religious freedom and passed them into law.
The project I have chosen for my leadership project is the East Cooper Community Outreach program. This program is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1989 to assist victims after Hurricane Hugo. East Cooper Community Outreach, also known as ECCO, offers assistance to the many people in Mount Pleasant living at the poverty level, also known as the “working poor.” ECCO is vital to the community and we will learn about this organization’s origin and the significant ways it has contributed to the residents of East Cooper.
When there is an ethical issue that has been brought up within the medical center, a member of the leadership team works with the bioethics committee to ensure that the final ruling on the issue is indeed ethical and upholds the standards set forth by the organization (GRMC, 2016). Ensuring that the individuals that make up the leadership and managerial teams follow the code of ethics is imperative to the success and culture within the organization. Annual reviews are held of all staff members and members of the leadership team that include a section regarding ethical behavior and how well the individual is upholding the ethical standards of the hospital. By having the code of ethics addressed on these evaluations, the employees are well aware of the ethical standards that the organization has of them, therefore encouraging the ethical behaviors throughout the
The meaning this service learning project provided me with was how important it is for us, the Hamline University, to build a meaningful relationship with Hamline Elementary. This was invoked because of the impact the students seemed to have due to us being there and working with them. The students were excited for a communal learning experience, and I think that is going to help encourage them to pursue a college career. Because I work at Hamline Elementary and have been doing so for the past 2 years, I have made strong connections with the students and faculty and think highly of them all. The experience was very similar to what I do at Hamline Elementary on a daily basis. Given this, I had a feeling that the content may have been a bit of
In the workplace as well as one’s personal life is essential for ethics to be maintained; often taking the right action is not always the most popular choice. It is important for maintaining an upstanding ethical code of conduct to be a productive individual as well as function as an employee in the workplace.
By reflecting the importance and challenges of blending ethics in education, steps can be further taken to improve education in the future. Although it is tough to ensure that ethics is being taught completely to the students, but the efforts in teaching ethics still need to be taken seriously. Despite the challenges of infusing ethics in education, ethical education plays a part in developing well-rounded students, the building blocks of our nation. Last but not least, we hope that ethical education shapes a better
