LIFE AND LEGEND is a sports drama. The plot is driven by solid themes about redemption and second chances. The plot is clear and the stakes feel personal. The tone is consistently dramatic. The story offers likable characters and the protagonist, Daryl, is very easy to root for.
However, with that said, the plot is a very familiar plot of a hopeful ball player getting a second chance. While it’s a tried and true formula, it would benefit the script to try and find a way to make the story feel more original and refreshing.
For example, instead of giving his brother, Kyle, an illness, maybe give Daryl a history of seizures or an illness that impacts his game.
The other concern about the presentation is the structure and the pace. The

Certainly, the idea is good and the idea that Daryl has to make a tough decision to stay in the game or walk away has strong merit, but the series of events just need to be more convincing.
Also, because of the structure and slow pace, there’s not enough compelling tension to sustain the entire plot. The structure needs stronger pivotal plot beats to keep the story moving forward. Maybe Daryl does consider Shannon’s offer, but at the last minute changes his mind or maybe he does do something illegal and is almost caught or is caught. Maybe he gets probation and can’t leave town, but he does for the game and this is when social services comes in and/or probation because he has violated an order.
Moving up the idea of him joining the team is also a consideration. Show him and the team working hard to make it to the championship game, as they overcome obstacles along the way. This naturally builds anticipation to the championship game vs. just having Daryl play in the final game. This would give the opportunity to develop the rival more and this too would create more tension. These are just examples (and ideas) of ways to elevate the tension and to intensify the tension, as the structure
Throughout this film, the message to keep pushing and following your dreams even when the whole world is telling you no was emphasized through Roy Hobbs’ hardships. Hobbs, being raised in a small farm town, taught himself the game of baseball and pushed himself everyday to improve. From the beginning, his dream, he said, was that he wanted to walk down the street and have everyone say, “there goes Roy Hobbs, greatest baseball player there ever was.” Even though he was shot, laughed at, and injured, his determination caused him to be at every practice and play in the games no matter how difficult it was. He did this to fulfill himself, not to please anyone else. These points exemplify the fact that no matter what life throws at you, anyone can attain their goals; with enough perseverance and fortitude anything is achievable.
In spite of the team and coaches setting the goal, Boobie’s injury while playing against Midland, sidelines him for the rest of the season. It is at this junction in the movie that we the injury of one player affecting the entire team, which leads to the break-down of the whole community. Change is seen within the team’s attitudes and new ways to play without their star running back. In addition, the desire to win changes the coaching
Now, this trope is not exclusively linked to sports films, but it generally acts as a turning point for the main character in most movies. One of the most famous scenes is that of Spiderman. Peter Parker allows a criminal to escape his grasp as an act of resistance against his uncle. Little did he know that this act would lead to his Uncle’s death. It was at this point that he accepted his responsibility as a hero and fought crime in the city. Now, in Forever Strong anger did not fuel the death. Instead, the rugby player was killed while performing the selfless acting of changing a stranger’s tire on the side of the road. It was this player that acted as Penning’s motivation and introduction to the team. They ran every morning as part of their training. They shared meals and confided in each other on the difficulties of life. Their relationship transcended player to player and entered the realm of brother to brother. His death sent shockwaves through the team, but it did something else to Rick. It served as his call to action moment, leading him to admit wrongdoing to his coach. (Taking PED’s) We, as Americans, love to watch progress and change, especially for the better. It serves as reaffirmation of second chances and redemption. (This is funny, because the jail and job system contradict this thinking. People with criminal records can’t get jobs and have a high chance of resorting back to crime to make ends meet. This puts them back in jail.) Many celebrities tell stories of homelessness and destitution before they found their way to monetary success. (Tyler Perry and Sylvester Stalone) As a generation, this trope serves us as a reminder that bad times will come, but we can rise above that still achieve what we
Benny Wilder is the city’s newest goalie and the one man Beth never wanted to see again. She avoided the NHL games when he played, and had moved half a country away, but fate is an evil and twisted mother-f*cker; just like her
“Oh no, please don’t tell me this is happening. Mom, can I just skip this tournament?” I pleaded, “There is absolutely no hope for me.” Being the dramatic person I am, I lamented the imminent end of my tennis career. I went into the tournament with an expectation of failure. I started the match by accidentally whacking the ball over the fence, tripping on my own feet rushing to end the point. The little confidence I had when going into the match dissipated within a few minutes. I continued the match pondering how to angle my racket to put spin on the ball. Every time I failed, I blamed it on the high skill level of my opponent. Unsurprisingly, I lost in an hour. When looking back on that match, I realized that it could have gone differently had I not brought myself down before. My lack of
Another theme I have discovered was stay on path/don't lose focus on your goals. Danny, ignored by several scouts and coaches of his talents end up one of the top players along with Terrell. Danny was underestimated until, he proved himself. Also, Terrell eventually got on the right path and became very successful. In our social society people encounter struggles and temptations that may take them off our path of success.
The screaming cheers from the girls on my team drowned out those from the stands, making it seem as if there was no one on the field but us. The lights were blindingly bright, shining down on the field from every direction, causing shadows to of the players to multiply around them. My coach paced back and forth, screaming orders and directions, while my teammates panted their lungs out. Just standing on the sidelines was like a breath of fresh air.
Kenny has no choice but to strive for success on the field and fight for whom he loves off the field, even if it rips his team
Tommy, I was amazed at what you were making at the playdough table on this occasion. I know you really enjoy being creative and participating in the many art and craft experiences we have regular on offer here at Jump Start, but today I was truly blown away by what I saw.
While the script presents with strengths, more development is suggested to build upon those strengths. The main concern about the script is the lack of clarity. It’s a very challenging script to follow due to the structure and there are too many subplots and characters, making for an overly convoluted plot.
Numerous times I have had many quad revives to push my team to victory and win the game in dire situations with seconds left on the clock. This should be considered a play of the game because it literally won my team the game. I have 12 hours into over watch and I have only received a play of the game as Mercy once.
In the realm of the filmic, one of the most creative scenes is the hunting
The play "Whose Life Is It Anyway" by Brian Clark was made into a stage
An uncharted realm of darkness is what comes to mind when one thinks of death. When talking about death, we will put it at the back of our mind, neglect it and move on to ordinary problems of life. It is not because we think death is still far for us to think about but it is because we are too scared to think about it. This is a prime example of the very human nature, denial. It is a famous human defense mechanism which helps making our life easier to some extent by clouding our thought process to think about day to day life problems. But one thing that troubles me sometimes do we really need to worry about it too much when it comes to everybody?
This garnet has kept my mind running a number of times. In bed, in a befuddlement during school, in the car waiting for a red light to turn green. Sometimes I thought “It’s not even a big deal”, but most of the time I laid wide awake because the anticipation made my heart race. The rapid beating of my heart similar to the thrill of playing Pacman. Racing around the grid, the familiar “waka waka” ringing through my ears. In some ways, my ring represents reaching the next level of this game, the game of life. Drawing closer to the ever evident end, I’m, in a way, forced to thinking about the person I was, the person I’ve become, and the person I want to be.
