October 29 2014 Chemistry Honors Lab 1: Measurements

Theory The overall objective of this lab experiment is to learn about measurements. Most to all experiments and labs require some form of measurements. Because there are many various kinds of measurements, it is important to be aware of the different factors of each measurement involved with the current lab experiment. It is also important to have a general understanding of them because they will need to be used in calculations for the lab. Precision and accuracy will be used most in this lab. A knowledge of the following vocabulary words will also be needed in order to complete and accurately asses the lab. precision- Chemistry, Physics. the extent to which a given set of measurements of the same sample agree with their mean accuracy- Chemistry, Physics. the extent to which a given measurement agrees with the standard value for that measurement mass- a body of coherent matter, usually of indefinite shape and often of considerable size:
"a mass of dough" volume- the amount of space, measured in cubic units, that an object or substance occupies density- the state or quality of being dense; compactness; closely set or crowded condition. meniscus- the convex or concave upper surface of a column of liquid, the curvature of which is caused by surface tension.…
