• Iron (III) dissolved in 0.1 M Nitric Acid
• Cu(II) dissolved in 0.1 M Nitric Acid
• 0.1 M
• 1% DMG
• 25-mL of half concentrated
• 1.0 KSCN/Acetone
• Unknown solution
• Two Standard Solutions

Then approximately 3mm in diameter spots were added to the cation spots of each section of the paper. The reaction in terms of color change was recorded. o Again, 3mm diameter spots of each cation solution were added to a second filter paper labeled, . Then spots were added to the cation solution spots which were both approximately 3mm in diameter. The results of this were then recorded. o The last spot test added four spots of each cation solution to their respective sections in the third filter paper. After the 3mm in diameter spots of cation solution were added, 3mm spots of DMG were added on top of the cation solutions. After adding the DMG, in a fume hood, the filter paper was placed in 600-mL beaker adjacent to a 50-mL beaker than contained 25-mL of half concentrated The results of color change were recorded.
• After the ten minutes expired, chromatogram one was removed from the beaker and it was covered. The solvent front was then marked with pencil, the distance from the pencil line to the solvent front was measured.
• Based on the circle filter paper results, on chromatogram 1: Co (II) was streaked with KSCN, Cu(II) was streaked with , Fe (III) was streaked with , and Ni (II) was streaked with DMG/ Then the distances from the pencil line to the center of each cation spots were measured. TMaterials
