I am going to tell you about a famous, yet kinda eerie celebration that takes place in mexico. This is a tradition celebrated by the Mexican Natives, most Mexican Americans (including myself) don’t even acknowledge this day, unless they happen to be visiting mexico at the time of this event.
The purpose of my paper is to prove that marijuana effects teens and their mind. Marijuana is a tobacco-like substance produced by drying the leaves, stems, flower tops of the Cannabis sativa (Indian Hemp) plant (Fact Sheet, 1). It is smoked or eaten to get hallucinated and receive pleasure. It grows just about anywhere. It is illegal in some countries but in others it is used for medical purposes (Encarta, 1). Some names that it is called a joint, nail, pot, Mary Jane, hive, etc. (Fact Sheet and Facts for teens, 1). Marijuana stays in the body for several days after one smoking session. In a chronic user marijuana can stay in the body for up to several weeks (Facts for Teens, 1).
The Spanish conquistadors’ motives greatly affected the people living in the new world. These motives influenced the Native Americans in all different ways some ways better or bigger than others. Three of the biggest motives that effected the Native Americans were gold, Christianity, and glory.
As previously mentioned, the maquiladoras emerged in the northern border regions of Mexico, and subsequently began to move inwards towards the interior spreading to almost every state in the country. Among the scholars who trace the origins of the maquiladoras, the vast majority locate the city of Tijuana as the first to establish a maquila plant at the time the Mexican government launched the Border Industrialization Program. During the program’s early years, only a select few U.S. companies sought to take advantage of the zones’ cheaper rate of production by relocating at least a portion of their production process to Tijuana’s maquila (Cooney, 2001, p.68; Billes, 2003, pp. 520-521;
Caffeine was chosen because it raises the heartbeat of humans, so they wanted to see what would happen when given to a Daphnia. One drop of Caffeine was dropped onto the Daphnia and then observed to get a recording of the heart rate. The results for both of the solutions were different which arose the question of whether the Caffeine had an effect on the Daphnia’s. The control group was tested first with 5 trials of different Daphnia, this gave an average heart rate of 114.8 with a difference of 0 between the two Daphnia. The heart rates were recorded 3 times for each Daphnia, for each trial 2 Daphnia’s were tested. When the Daphnia were placed in the toxin the results showed a very obvious change in heart rate with an average of 15.6 in heart rates between the Daphnia placed in water and the Daphnia mixed with caffeine. The experiment was done in a controlled environment in the Parker build at
Marijuana in the late 1960s’ had only one percent of tetrahydrocannabinol, compared to present day where Health Canada has discovered there is at least 10 percent of tetrahydrocannabinol and 30 percent in some cases. The tetrahydrocannabinol is a strong chemical and works immediately after one has inhaled it. Tetrahydrocannabinol mimics the neurotransmitter anandamide, which fills in the synapse between neurons and this disrupts the brain’s regular functions. In a normally functioning brain, anandamide activates the cannabinoid receptors but when smoking marijuana tetrahydrocannabinol activates these receptors which are in the hippocampus, cerebellum and basal ganglia. This affects the short-term memory, coordination, and learning and problem-solving skills for an individual. Brain development is also affected by the use of cannabis. Dr. Harold Kalant conducted a study in the 1980s’ with rats and cannabis use. He separated the rats into two groups; rats exposed to cannabis at adolescents and rats exposed to cannabis in adulthood. Kalant observed the rats exposed to cannabis as adolescents, had difficulty with memory and learning even after nine years of no exposure. In comparison, the rats who were adults when exposed to cannabis didn’t have long term effects. It is evident that brain development was disrupted by the use of cannabis in the growing years. Also, Dr. Andra Smith saw in her functional magnetic resonance imaging of brain activity of regular cannabis smokers and non-smokers, that the smokers had a more brain activity. She stated it was due to the brain having to work hard to “respond accurately”. It is obvious that brain function and development is harshly impacted by the use of
In reading Lisa’s case, she had a very eclectic mix of substances that she had been taking since she was 12-years-old. The first drug was marijuana. Smoking cannabis can produce relaxation following euphoria, loss of appetite, impaired memory, loss of concentration and knowledge retention, loss of coordination, as well as a more vivid sense of taste, sight, smell, and hearing (Stevens & Smith, 2013). If used while amongst friends in more social setting it can produce more of an outgoing effect such as talking more, laughing. When cannabis is smoked, and a more relaxed effect is obtained, it can have an adverse effect on reaction time. Hall and Solowij (1998) mentioned that the most common unpleasant side-effects of
La Ventana de Los Cielos is a nonprofit organization where they offer a variety of activities for children and adolescents with special needs. The mission of this facility is to promote and improve the physical and mental functions of those with special needs. This facility has 4 different stations where the children rotate and are able to participate in each station. Every station focuses on a specific function such as cognition, motor skills, sensory and social skills with the goal to enhance each function. Services offered at La Ventana include horse-based activities, zoo-interaction, aqua-experiences, music and arts and crafts. The standard ratio of staff to patients is one on one. Although there are times where there might not be enough volunteers or not enough kids that attend on a particular day, a volunteer may be left without a child or may have to work with 2 kids. I feel that the standards of ratio of one on one is adequate because it allows the staff to give the child full attention and are able to get the most out of that child for that particular day.
Marijuana or Hemp is known to be one of the most abused drugs.Marijuana consists of dried and crushed leaves, stems, and seeds of cannabis plant. The Delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol, also formally known around as THC, is one of the primary psychoactive/mind-altering ingredients within marijuana that produces the feeling of being high. Within my paper I will discuss a majority of the uses of marijuana, a lot of the effects when smoked, the history of where it started and the treatment methods for marijuana, also I will include bullets on the short and long-term effects.
There exist three various forms of the original cannabis plant; marijuana, hash oil and hashish. Marijuana is made using dried leaves and flowers from the actual plant (ncpic, 2015). The main active ingredient in cannabis, the psychoactive agent, is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Cannabidiol (CBD), also a component of marijuana, is thought to not produce the commonly associated feeling of a ‘high’ and can be beneficial when treating childhood epilepsy and various other conditions. The effect that marijuana has on the central nervous system (CNS) is broad and varied, depending on the location of the CB receptors found within the brain, as can be seen in Figure 2.
There are several myths presented to make marijuana seem harmful to one’s health, but many of them have been proven scientifically wrong. Three myths commonly presented and associated with smoking marijuana are: marijuana causes mental permanent mental illness, smoking marijuana is more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco, and also marijuana is a gateway drug. Through my research I have found that the commonly believed myths and misconceptions of marijuana intoxication are only social fears of those whom have not done any research on the effects of the drug.
(4 journal of cellular phys) There are several cases of medical marijuana use in the depression of epileptic episodes for both adults and children. We will provide 4 articles for this disease. Two of the articles will pertain to adults and 2 will pertain to children. In these assessments we will try to discover any negative cognitive effects that may occur in use with children. We will also assess the damage that would be incurred if treatment with marijuana was not given compared to damage that occurs with its
Over the past 50 years, scientists have studied the plant Cannabis Sativa. After research, they believe cannabis can lead to schizophrenia. Some may think that cannabis is a causal agent, and others think cannabis is a trigger. Cannabis helps to increases natural levels of dopamine in the body. A natural level of dopamine in the body is regular. However, when too much dopamine is produced then a disorder is brought about. This disorder is called schizophrenia. Therefore, this is why scientists do believe cannabis “causes” schizophrenia.
“A total of 120 children and teenagers with Dravet syndrome—a rare disorder marked by drug-resistant seizures that can be nearly continuous in some cases, we tested with cannabis and over 14 weeks the amount of seizures decreased tremendously.’’Sam Riggio, director of operations for Realm of Caring, a cannabis research, education and advocacy group is trying hard to make cannabis beneficial to people in our society. Cannabis is is illegal in today's society for reasons, such as overuse can lead to insanity, it causes brain cancer, or neck cancer. But it has also been known to cure cancer and help with mental illness. Cannabis is a very conflicted topic in today's society.
Marijuana is the third most popular recreational drug in America following alcohol and tobacco. It is most commonly smoked out of a pipe, or rolled like a cigarette. The active ingredient in marijuana that causes the “high” followed by smoking it is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC for short. This is the most common perception of individuals who encounter the drug but what is failed to be considered
