In the story “Lather and Nothing Else” by Hernando Tellez, because of his pride, force into temptation, and negligence, Captain Torres is the villain. Firsty, Torres tortures rebels and takes pleasure in doing so which contributes to his villainous. At the beginning of the story, Torres says “But we did very well, you know.” (Tellez 182). This shows that he is not only a murderer, but he takes pride in his horrible actions and believes it is something to brag about. Secondly, he tempts the barber to kill him by declaring “They told me you would kill me. I came to see if it was true.” (Tellez 184).
