Volunteering at the Laurel nursing home was an eye opener for me. I had done volunteer work before but the one that inspired me the most was for Laurel Nursing Home. As a group from AP Fatheree Vocational Tech Health Science class, we would go to the nursing home whenever they would allow us to come. At the nursing home, we would come up with games and activities to play with everyone such as: cards, bowling, family feud, and karoake. The best part about volunteering there was seeing the joy on their faces as we all walk in. Our presence meant more to them then we all would have expected especially for the ones who rarely got visitors. Being able to sit and listen to some of the stories they had to tell was a blessing. Although, I learned
On this date worker visited Golden Living Nursing Home in Winfield, for the purpose of monitoring Mr. Smith's placement. Upon arrival worker realized, Mr. Smith had been moved since last visit. Worker asked the nurse passing out medication but she did not know whom worker was talking about. Worker then asked the nurse at the nurses’ desk and she stated he was now on the other hall. While looking for Mr. Smith's new room worker was stopped and asked who she was looking for. The NH employee directed worker to Mr. Smith's new room. The new room only includes Mr. Smith and one other person. The previous room included three residents.
My two main volunteer experiences consist of: Outdoor School, and volunteering for Homework Club at Gordon Russell Middle School. I have only been able to go to Outdoor School twice, but both times were filled with accomplishments. I worked on plants field study, so learning all the information, which seemed overwhelming at first, and then being
I am currently volunteering at Atlantic Care Hospital, I have learned a lot ever since I began volunteering from November. During volunteering I meet different people, I talk to them and have learned new things from them. I stay after school very thursday and help tutor for math. I think that I have take a step forward and help others in any way I can . I consider volunteering as gaining experience, learning new things and most importantly helping the
I volunteered at the Hubbard House, which is a home away from home for people who have family in the hospital or are being treated by the hospital and don’t want to live there, as the hospital is a 5 minute bus ride away. Our job was to serve the residents who were currently housed there, a hot homemade spaghetti and meatballs meal with garlic bread and assorted desserts. We served them as if it were a restaurant and brought smiles to their faces.
One of my extracurricular activities was volunteering at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, PA during the 10th and 11th grade. I gave patients food and water, answered call bells, and comforted and transported patients. I volunteered for 4 hours a week, 15 weeks a year, and had a total of 120 volunteer hours. Volunteering at the hospital showed me what it takes to care for the sick and made me realize that I want to go into the medical
Nursing Home Administration is an area which specialized in medical and health services management. Nursing home administrators specialize to supervise clinical and administrative affairs of nursing homes and related facilities. They also have a working knowledge of the physical and psychological effects of the aging process. An administrator’s duties includes overseeing staff and personnel, financial matters, medical care, medical supplies, facilities, and other duties as specific positions demand. This paper will discuss different aspects of nursing home administrator and I will follow up with an interview by Kathy Kondolf, an administrator at Heartland of Zephyrhills.
I volunteered taking care of children, at a recreation center, where parents couldn’t afford expensive day care. I spent time at feral cat clinics to help reduce the overpopulation of cats. I began volunteering at three square and placing applications to help hospitals and soon plan to spend time with soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Through my community service I learned to communicate better, take on leadership roles and earned life changing opportunities along the way. Through volunteering I grew as a person, I matured, learned responsibility, and realized what I wanted to do with my life.
I was able to volunteer at a hospital and at the tzu Chi clinic. You learn a lot with having the opportunity to volunteer in many
Me and my good friends Josh and Daniel volunteered at Salvation Army. Salvation Army is a place that people who don't have houses and can’t afford food or other essentials. They provide homes for homeless people and food for people who have a home but cannot afford food because of house taxes. They also have apartments connected to the food building. We did lots of different things at Salvation Army like we prepared and served meals, washed dishes, mopped the dining room and also cleaned up food. And all the other things we did are on the paper. We actually did everything on the list! The experience there was amazing knowing that I am making a difference in people's lives by serving food and helping clean up around the place, and we also got an opportunity to talk the some of the people around the
An unforgettable experience I’m grateful for participating in was volunteering at Hospice. What most people aren’t aware of is that Hospice isn’t just a place surrounded by death and despair, it’s more than that, you’re providing comfort to patients to reduce their suffering and enhancing their quality of life.
I volunteered at the food bank for my service learning experience. At this site we sorted food and prepared packages for the people who needed food at home. We worked alongside the head of the nonprofit organization Kimberly Forstrom. We also got to meet a few other the other people that helped make the program run smoothly. Their roles were to help with all the food, sorting and making sure everything is good to eat and there is enough for everybody. I also thought it was really cool to see someone who actually runs a nonprofit locally .She shared with us that the way she keeps the program running is by the donations of big name brands like Walmart, making very generous donations.
Volunteering to feed the homeless is truly an eye opening experience to what reality is. There is an estimated one hundred million homeless people in the world who are starving and are trying to find a way to survive. On a day-to-day basis, we see homeless people everywhere such as on the streets, by the freeway asking for money so they can feed themselves, or maybe even feed their own family. One day, my mom and I decided we had to take action after witnessing so many homeless people on the streets. When people are in such a difficult situation, their only option is to beg for money because they have no roof over their head, and no food to eat. Many of these people are suffering from their own decisions, unemployment, or for other personal reasons. There are many homeless people who are sick and suffering from severe mental illnesses. It breaks my heart seeing homeless people in the streets, so I knew I had to take action and help out someway. The experience of volunteering to feed the homeless was most certainly a life changing experience. It made me realize how grateful I am for my life, how important it is to help those in great need, and to never take a meal for granted or roof for granted. This event was one that happened in the spur of the moment but has also changed me as a a person by becoming more involved and helping out more in my community , learning to never taking anything for granted, and by not assuming all homeless people are bad people as such.
Nearly 90% of individuals aged 65 and older desire to live at home according to a survey conducted by AARP. Of course, in some cases, staying in their home is just not possible for various reasons, which usually involve physical limitations. Fortunately, services like the senior home care offered in San Diego can make it possible for seniors citizens to stay at home as long as possible.
Over the summer I was trying to decide what senior project I wanted to do. One of my friends then suggested that we should volunteer at an assisted living center where we knew that that we could show up at any time to volunteer. I knew I wanted to volunteer for my senior project and saw this as an opportunity to learn how to take care of our older generation because my grandma moved in with my family a couple of years ago.
My most is when when I volunteered at the orphanage, Albergue Infantil Maria Palmira Lavalle, in Campeche, Mexico. Albergue Infantil Maria Palmira Lavalle orphanage, in Campeche, Mexico, was the first orphanage I ever volunteered at. I was surprised how the orphanage was well ran because TV provide a perception of orphanages as a below the poverty line and unsupported system. Albergue Infantil Maria Palmira Lavalle orphanage have the friendliest workers and children there. Everyday my group and I come to volunteer children there always pitched in and help us with the job we was doing. Sometimes some of the kids would stay home from school just to help us. Experiencing that help me identify the true definition of civic engagement. Campeche,
