Mental Illness - The prisoner’s moral culpability for his offending is reduced by reason of his mental illness and the objective
Yogi Berra believed that, “Baseball is 90 percent mental and the other half is physical.” From my tenure as a college softball pitcher at Point Park University, I learned how imperative being mentally sound is to the game of softball. The legal field is a very demanding field. I know my experiences gained on the diamond will allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness.
On February 12, 1909, the NAACP, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, was founded. The NAACP was founded in response to the 1908 race riot in Springfield, Illinois and the terrible practice known as lynching. Their goal was to secure the rights, for all people, guaranteed to people in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments in the United States Constitution. Even though some of the most important wins in court happened when Charles Hamilton Houston was the leader, his student, Thurgood Marshall, won some important ones too ("NAACP Legal History", NAACP.org). This essay is going to focus on some of the court cases that were fought when Marshall was in charge ( Janken, Kenneth R. "The Civil Rights Movement: 1919-1960s")
The duty of care is owed to every college and/or university student. Duty of care is the obligation to use a reasonable level of care towards an individual to avoid harm to that individual. Duty of care is therefore based upon the relationship of the parties, the negligent act or omission and the reasonable foreseeability of loss to that individual. A negligent act results in loss for the victim. Not notifying your campus community in a timely manner is and negligent act and can be considered as being in breach of duty of care.

In the movie Invictus, the one of the themes of the movie is that sports can be a political, spiritual and even a motivational symbol. It could represent the corruption of a society or the cheerfulness. For example in Invictus the main purpose of the sports team was to be a political symbol of hope for the growing country.
Laws have been put in place of the years to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities when it comes to getting a job, keeping a job, and having access to goods, services, and locations. Several of the laws that have been enacted over the years include the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993, the Age Discrimination Act of 1967, and the Americans with Disabilities of 1990.
-There was a reckless lack of interest or concern to human life, resulting in death. (an example of this is a person unloads a firearm in a crowded street.
Texas Senate Bill 11, known as the campus carry law, has many people outraged, while others are pleased with its passing. Society is at odds about gun control and having guns on campuses, which for some, are like small towns and like those small towns are dealing with similar issues concerning the 2nd amendment. One must look at the 2nd amendment, from the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights (1791) , and its true meaning of the “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms.” The 2nd amendment was put into place to have armed citizens who could be called upon in times of war. The colonists in America had the right to bear arms as would any Englishman under British rule. Because of the armed colonists and their ability to rally an army, they won their freedom against the British. America’s forefathers saw this to be prudent and included the 2nd amendment in the Bill of Rights. The Founding Fathers knew it was expedient that citizens have this right should another tyrannical government try to impose its rights

The cost of tuition at colleges and universities in the United States has seen a steady increase over last several decades. Since the 1980s, the list price for tuition has risen by roughly 7% per year, while the inflation rate has averaged 3.2% per year. The effect of this mismatch in the rise of the cost of tuition versus the average inflation rate has had monumental effects on the ability of students to afford a higher education. This, in turn, has forced more students to take out increasingly large amounts of loans, causing for the national student loan debt to grow to over $1 trillion dollars, more than total credit card
Indiana University is home to nearly fifty thousand students and ten thousand faculty members, all of who spend time working, living, or interacting with each other within the confounds of a 3-square mile campus. With so many individuals operating in such a small vicinity, there is likely to be a significant amount of conflict. I would guess that the most common type of conflict at Indiana University is student to student conflict. While I have not personally had any major conflicts with another student, I have friends who have told me of their own. My Residence Assistant during my freshman year, Andrew, was a homosexual, African American man, and he was routinely antagonized on campus. He told me once about a student in one of his classes who would always make snide comments about his sexuality and the color of his skin, and how the student would wait for Andrew at the door after class just to belittle him. I thought this was preposterous and that something needed to be done, but Andrew informed me that he gets treated like this all of the time on campus, and there is nothing he can do to stop it. Among the other types of conflict that I have witnessed at this university are between students and staff members. I would say that the most common type of issues in the student-faculty category are between professors and students. Personally, I have had an issue with a professor who gave me a low grade on a paper that I did not think I deserved. She always gave us the
One of the biggest reasons I decided to attend Vanderbilt Law School was because of the resources and opportunities that the school provided. Regardless of whether I am fortunate enough to accept a Garrison Social Justice Scholarship, I plan to utilize the school’s incredible resources as I prepare for my career as a death penalty litigator. First, Vanderbilt has courses that study the central issues in death penalty litigation. While there are many excellent and relevant courses, I’m going to highlight two courses that I would use to prepare for my career. Despite the fact that it is patently unconstitutional, a large proportion of death row inmates are mentally or intellectually disabled. Professor Slobogin, who is one of the most cited
This year during legal studies, I was able to help out with jacket racket organization, many others and I were able to bag donated jackets together. I learned as a group at the time that we all work fairly well together if we really put our minds to it. I also helped a little bit with the food hamper, Andrea and I were able to unbag the food donations and organize them into boxes as we collected the bags. Near the beginning of the year, the whole legal studies class was able to create a dance routine to warm-up for the Terry Fox run. Personally, I did not create the dance, but I was able to help out for the preparation of the run. In my group, we were able to organize music and many other things like the announcement. For the musical chairs event, I was able to help pull away chairs. At this time, we learned how to think quickly and act based on our given situations. I was also able to count money for the Terry Fox run, this took quite some time. Lastly, I was able to work a few games at the family dance even though I caught a fever.
