Throughout my time as a young adult I have had countless amounts of people tell me that they see me as a leader. They told me that I have the traits and the skills of someone who can have success in leadership positions. Truthfully, I never really understood what they meant. I knew that I was a good public speaker, but I never really understood what else I had. In high school I was always put in leadership positions whether it was an officer of the National Honor Society or captain of my sport teams, but I never really understood what drove me to attain those positions. I continued my quest for leadership positions in high school with every student organization I joined. Whether it was Pi Kappa Phi fraternity or Dance Marathon I felt the need to prove to others that I can more than just a member, but a leader. It wasn’t until I took this class that I truly understood what made me a leader. Because of this class I was able to better understand what are my leadership traits, my leadership styles, and how I use those in order to attain and succeed in leadership positions. Throughout this paper I will explain how Career Leadership Academy allowed me to realize what made me a leader and analyze the ways to improve at my future leadership positions.
George W. Carver was best known in his time as a man of faith who believes in God as science as a gift from God. He would constantly acknowledge that his work was inspired by the works of God and God’s inspiring, and guiding him in his work. When those who wanted things from Carver such as his secrets without the desire to work for the knowledge, Carvers replay would be, ‘God refuses to reveal the secrets of the humankind and the universe.

This leadership course has taught me to the importance of leadership and what it means to be a leader. That leadership is something that is learned and developed over time. To set goals and encourage those who are involved in accomplishing the goal. Being a leader more than just having follower, but to have enthusiasm, courage, humility, and integrity. This course have also helped me understand how to not only apply leadership to my personal life but to the working atmosphere.
Participate in a leadership weekend is one of my passion to travel the world to experience the many people with whom I share this planet. My travels will help me understand the needs of different cultures and raise my awareness of various ways to engage communities. Another reason why I wish to attend in this Leadership Weekend is I see this will provide me very essential opportunity to expand and build my communication, confidence skills by interact with other people. As matter of fact, one of my future goal or dream is to sever my native country (Tibet), which is occupied by China government right now and people are suffering not having freedom of speech, freedom of religious and my younger fellow Tibetan brothers and sisters not getting equal right accessing model educations, which cause
Leadership perspectives are very important when making decisions and strategies. A leader that only sees information on one side does not have the grasp on a situation. A leadership perspective such as understanding that there are more than one way to see things and it does not have to be what you see is what you get as a leader. When a leader uses their surrounding and employees the perspective may change and rather than seeing one side they see a variety.
For the entirety of my high school career, I have been a student in the Leadership Center for the Sciences and Engineering (LCSE) held at Norview High School. Being enrolled in this specialty program has strengthened and pushed me academically, as a leader, with public speaking, and as a service worker. Specifically, LCSE has developed my leadership skills and allowed me to become a more service-oriented leader. In the first year of the program, students take Leadership Foundations where the basics of leadership and the history of great leaders are taught. Then, in Advanced Leadership students model leadership skills by hosting holiday gatherings, being counselors for the LCSE Summer Orientation Camp, and completing 200 volunteering hours.
Leadership can be about making others better as a result of your presence and making sure that the impact lasts in your absence. The leadership program has been such a wonderful experience for those within the district. There are so many positive things that have come out of the program so far. The fundamentals which include Myer's Briggs Type Indicator have given the groups a great way to connect to one another and get to know each other better. This can continue within each school and classroom to help build on and create a positive environment for adult-adult, adult-student and student-student relationships. Action research is another way to learning about improving schools and empowering educators. This is going to be
My definition of leadership is to be able to support, motivate, and inspire a team to accomplish any goal at hand. I have first hand experience in the leadership role. I have been involved in group and team related projects for the majority of my life. For example, I have been on a dance team for the past eighteen years. During those years, I was a part of the University of Monroe’s Hawkline. Also on campus, I am involved in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Being involved in those groups, I have been able to learn from others about what it means to become a better leader. Being a leader is a full-filling process, knowing that I am guiding others to accomplish our goal together. Currently, I am in the process of becoming a member
At the beginning of this class, leadership was something I hoped to enhance throughout the duration of this course and in the next few years. Through the course, I have learned more about myself and the type of leader I am through the relational leadership model. Learning about the strengths I have as an individual, the leadership skills and styles, working with other people through communication and listening. I have learned relevant concepts that served as the foundation to leadership philosophy. Leadership has a lot to do with relationships. One thing that has stood out to me is that they see the definition of leadership as a relational and ethical process of people together, attempting to accomplish positive change (Anderson&Bolt, 18).
Organizations—irrespective of their sizes and areas of businesses—always take on their leaders’ personality. So, leadership development programs gain prominence in every organization. Research says that leadership training and development programs assist in maximizing productivity, promoting harmony within the organization, and shaping up a positive organizational culture. It is; therefore, said that the future of an organization rests on recognizing and identifying leaders.
One practice at Governor State that reflects the current philosophy is the leadership development initiatives through the Student Leadership Institute. This program is unique an address the “whole person” as defined by (Keeling, R. 2004) in that it is a distinctive co-curricular certificate program. It is designed for students that desire to attain greater levels of leadership and personal development.
According to Yukl (2006), much of the skill essential for effective leadership is learned from experience rather than from formal training programs. A lifetime learner is accepting that you are never finished educating yourself and by continuing to educate yourself, you become self-aware that learning is an ongoing process that cannot be completed. According to Yukl (2006), leadership training can take many forms, from short workshops that last only a few hours and focus on a narrow set of skills, to programs that last for a year or more and cover a wide range of skills.
From a very young age, I always knew that I was a leader. I remember constantly volunteering to be a leader for activities in the classroom, but the more I grow up and mature, the more I crave the need to flourish and nurture my leadership skills to enhance the way I will aid my school and community in the future. When I heard about the Leadership Program, I knew it would be a great occasion for me to cultivate my leadership abilities.
“Leadership Academy is a group we started, Mr. Dunn and myself, this is its third year. So, we thought we wanted to do something where we could get kids together to work on qualities of leadership, which we kind of follow a program we found that we think works well. Also, it's kind of the group that’s in charge of school spirit and making sure that the student body is getting more involved in our building.” Fjell said.
