Leadership and Organization Culture

A school community is empowered by its leadership team to excel by the way the leadership team interacts with every person it comes in contact with. Every single interaction becomes like cells in the body, swimming towards the heart of the school and its singular purpose: Children. People, singular or in groups, can be as dynamic as the many systems of the body, each with its own primary function but also each with its true purpose in sustaining equilibrium.

Cultures built on the power of relationships first have a tendency to excel through shared reliance, mutual respect and a focus on humanistic aspects like communication and collaborative decision-making.

2. Purpose, Passion and Persistence are the Agents of Progress

"… When the answer to the why question is more about others than about yourself, it makes a big difference in everything you do. Think about some of the greatest leaders in history: Abraham Lincoln, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King Jr., If you would 've asked any of them why they did what they did, they would’ve been able to answer you in a heartbeat: they all knew their purpose in life” (Gongwer). A purpose driven life can help shave all of the rough edges off an otherwise unfinished person. Like any person, a purpose driven school community, who understands their “why”, finds it easy to be passionate about their work. Purpose and passion are potent pieces of an otherwise unfinished puzzle, but the complete process is in the follow-up.

Persistence takes purpose and passion and makes the process whole as if completing a circle. It turns vision into reality and completes stagnant goals by pushing us to fulfill our daily purpose with passion. Like in the quote above, those leaders did not only have the question of “why” answered but also the persistence to advance that “why” across cultural, racial and geopolitical boundaries.
