When practicing humility in a position of leadership, it is often believed that your skills and talents go unnoticed, that you are underestimated, or that you may end up as a follower. True humility is not looking down on yourself or thinking less of yourself, but rather thinking of yourself less. A humble leader views themself as a constant learner, rather than someone who thinks they knows it all. They will give other people credit, admit their wrongdoings, and actively listen to feedback. I perceive a humble person to be one who is confident and knowledgeable about their own skills, talents and strengths while maintaining a modest attitude. As someone who is still in their teens, I am constantly learning new things. I have learned to not be sensitive to feedback, but rather embrace it as a learning experience. Whether it be the SVP or my manager at BJ’s correcting me on the job, I take feedback as an opportunity to learn more about myself in order to make me a better individual. To be a leader, one must empower and influence those they lead in order to get the results they want. Neither one mentions that a leader must be confident in themselves and show others that they are confident with the decisions they make for themselves and others. As president of the Italian National Honor Society at my school, it is my job to promote excellence in the course, as well as in the community. Since our society values giving back to the community, we put an emphasis on community service. Many of the other students in the society worried about completing their hours. I showed them that they did not need to worry about getting their service hours by completing all of my required hours for both National and Italian Honor Societies before the end of November.

As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess.
