Whenever we hear the success stories of any organisations, we are immediately reminded of their leaders. No one can imagine Microsoft without Bill Gates, Reliance industries without Ambanis, Apple without Steve Jobs and the list goes on and on. The leaders always play a key role for the success and excellence of any organisation whereas leadership indicates the ability of an individual to maintain good interpersonal relations with followers and motivates them to contribute for achieving organisational objectives (Gandhi, 2014). George Terry describes leadership as “the activity of influencing people to strive willingly for group objectives”. The leader’s role can be broken down into 3 elements namely setting direction, aligning people and motivating and inspiring them (Charles King, 2013). Leadership is an important element and it has a lot of significance as well. The importance of leadership to an organisation are as follows- it helps in inspiring and guiding the employees, creates confidence, improves productivity in the business, improves the employees job satisfaction and a leader also improves the team spirit/cohesion within the team (Gandhi, 2014).This essay focuses on a case study The Factory and will be mapping out important roles and events in this case. This will then be followed out by identifying the leadership theory existing in the case. After identifying the theory the essay will apply another leadership theory as a recommendation that will improve The
Leadership in an organization often plays a critical role, and is frequently, though not always, one of the major drivers of the success or failure of a company. (Bass, 1990) Effective leadership helps a company through times of peril and brings a future of brightness. It makes a corporation successful. However, what is leadership? According to Kouzes and Posner, it is the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirations. (1995, p.30) Leaders set a clear direction for us; they help us realize what is ahead; they support us to achieve and win; they encourage and inspire us when we feel depressed. Without leadership, an organization will degenerate into chaos and unstructured because people view things in different ways.
As community members, we have a concern that involves the upstanding of your FFA chapter as well as the National Organization. As we all know by now, you have a pregnant officer on your officer team. Frankly, as grandparents, parents, and community members, we do not consider the officer in question fit for the position. According to the Ava FFA Chapter Constitution and Bylaws, as well as the 2017-2018 Officer Contract that the officer in question was asked to sign, we can prove that she is not fit for the leadership position as an Ava FFA Chapter Officer. We are requesting that she be removed from her office position immediately. In the Ava FFA Chapter Constitution and Bylaws, it states in Article III, Section C,
A leader is an individual who has the ability to mold and cultivate others to reach their full potential. In this essay, the importance of leadership and what a leader exemplifies will be discussed and analyzed in depth. Also an influential leader in my workplace will be described using the path-goal leadership theory, to elaborate on the styles, behaviors, and effectiveness demonstrated by my leader. In addition, a detailed description of my leaders role and utilization of the path-goal theory in the workplace will be explained as well.
The study of leadership and the actions it entails can be dated back as far as 2300 B.C (Bass and Stodill, 1990), however in the modern day the study has evolved greatly, with theories and writers inputting their views and constantly updating and changing the definitions of what they believe leadership to be.
“Let the light within you to shine brighter than the light shining on you.”- Dabo Swinney
Leadership is a state of being a leader/head of a group of people, organization, and/or country. Ken Blanchard state that "As leader, we hold the lives of others in our hands, and these need to be gentle, caring and always available to provide support" (pg.2). Every leader has different styles or different ways of leading his people to achieve their common goal. This paper will talk about leadership theory and will compare and contract each theory from the each other.
Leadership is the ability to obtain followers. Commitment will follow your leadership as you climb up the ladder your commitment will rise as well. People do not want to be managed they want to be led. There are many principles that will represent a great leader and help an individual obtain the followers trust. The principles mentioned in this book are influence, priorities, integrity, positive change, problem solving, positive attitude, attitude, vision, self-discipline, and staff development. These ten principles will achieve an individual the needed followers to become a leader.
There are so many dimensions and concept to the very idea of what is leadership, how to define leadership, what traits and characteristics makes a great leader, and what is the purpose of leadership. It can be about perspective and whom it is that defines what makes a leader because in some environments the term leadership and management are interchangeable. A leader is more than the authority figurehead that controls the decision-making and direction of a group of people. According to Fairholm & Fairholm (2009) a leader will create a culture of trust, progress, and growth that enables the workers/followers to grow mature and develop to their fullest potential and at the same time to develop the leader skills (Fairholm & Fairholm, 2009, p. 2).
Leadership in business is one of the key to succeed, the better the leadership the more successful the business will be. ‘Among all the ideas and writing about leadership, three aspects stand out, people, influence and goals’ (Samson,Catley,Cathro & L.Daft 2012, p.557). In other words, leadership is defined to be the ability to influence the people in the organisation in order to fit in to the organisational situations and to accomplish organisational goals. For leadership to sucessfully combine in to organisational situation , Fiedler’s contigency theory was made to ‘match the leaders style with the situation most favourable for his or her success’(Samson, et al .,2012, p.565). In this essay, Fielder’s contigency theory will be thoroughly described and will be applied to the case study called “The Factory” written by Dr. Mark Le Fevre to evaluate what is happening in the case using the three leadership situations ;quality of leader-member relationship, task structure and the position power. Then I will be making academic based evidence recommendations to the characters Ken, Allan and the workers in order to enhance the situation given which will be briefly explained throghout the essay.
Distributed leadership is not associated with designated leadership roles; in fact, it focuses more on the practice of leadership. It primarily focuses on opportunities for change and advancement. This concept is important because leadership is more than just a position of authority. Leadership is all about the influence, talents, and capabilities of an individual. According to Hargreaves (2007), a distributed perspective on leadership acknowledges the work of anyone who contribute to leadership practice, whether or not they are formally designated or defined as leaders. Leadership roles and years of experience is not the main focus. Expertise, confidence, resilience, and many other key characteristics are what are most significant.
This essay will focus on leadership within an organization and how it affects individual and organizational outcomes specifically using four theories including Fielder’s Contingency Model, Hersey and Blanchard situational leadership Model, Path Goal Theory by House and Dessler and finally the Participative Leadership Model by Vroom and Yetton. Leadership is said to be a dynamic interactive process, which involves the four other management functions, planning organizing, directing and controlling. Leadership is one of the most important roles of a manager; it is the process of influencing a organized group of individuals towards the achievement of a vision or set of goals. It must provide direction toward future aspirations and goal
Engaging with a system in order to transform it requires two steps, how the system is being interpreted and the implementation of an intervention. By enacting these tools the status quo of the organization is being challenged because of the vision that is had for the organization through adaptive leadership. Acknowledging what is true and what else is possible are the starting questions to take on this transformation. In order to push an organization/situation further than just fixing a problem by looking at it through solution driven thinking, does not maintain an environment for needs to be met. By putting vulnerabilities, beliefs, values and needs on the table, people have something to lose and when this intersects with a want for
What would one call successful leadership, would it be controlling others around you, or having followers who believe in their leader. The quote that Successful leadership is having followers who believe in the leader, will be analysed through this essay. Piece by piece you will find that leadership is not only about taking a stand, not only about controlling others but by having the support of everyone around you to believe in what you are leading. Through theories and thoughts of professionals, this quote will become unpacked and the true meaning of a successful leadership revealed.
Leadership is necessary in all organizations in order for its objectives to be achieved. Leadership is the procedure of motivating people to behave in specific ways in order to attain certain goals. Leadership is about making decisions to achieve an organisational objective and helping to establish the ‘style’ and ‘culture’ of an organisation- “the way it operates”. (Hannagan, 2008) A leader should be able to look forward and identify the ways ahead. This means that leaders should have followers and should be able to share collective goals with them. Leaders decide ‘where we are going’ and influence people to take that particular direction, rather than describe ‘how we are going to get there’. (Hannagan, 2008)
Successful leadership can be stripped down to a few simple, yet effective, roles that can make or break any supervisor or organization; and that is communication and teamwork. These activities seem so menial but even the most educated or experienced could lack the ability to use these correctly. In any field of work, lack of communication could be detrimental to the success you are striving for. For healthcare, you have to think about the patient as well. Lack of communicating from provider to patient or between the multidisciplinary team could bring harm the patients well being. As was stated in our literature “ [communication] is a common personal barrier in healthcare organizations and has the tendency to either evaluate the sender of the message as not important or down played” The ability to clearly communicate valid information to your team is needed for an organization to function. "Without teamwork, communication and sharing of information is limited, which leads to generally poor outcomes.” (Preston). The supervisor has many other roles such as organizing, staffing, planning, answer and ask questions, to ward off resistance, and ultimately to achieve the institution 's goals. However, none of which could not run effectively without clear communication, teamwork and a positive response from their staff. The perspective the staff takes on how they feel the supervisor comes off is going to aide in the effectiveness of the information is received.
