Whenever we hear the success stories of any organisations, we are immediately reminded of their leaders. No one can imagine Microsoft without Bill Gates, Reliance industries without Ambanis, Apple without Steve Jobs and the list goes on and on. The leaders always play a key role for the success and excellence of any organisation whereas leadership indicates the ability of an individual to maintain good interpersonal relations with followers and motivates them to contribute for achieving organisational objectives (Gandhi, 2014). George Terry describes leadership as “the activity of influencing people to strive willingly for group objectives”. The leader’s role can be broken down into 3 elements namely setting direction, aligning people and motivating and inspiring them (Charles King, 2013). Leadership is an important element and it has a lot of significance as well.
