Online Presentation Paper Leadership is much more than just leading people, it also requires vision. This vision can be focused locally or globally, as long as it provides a goal for the advancement of your organization (Ledlow & Coppola, 2012, p. 141). One such visionary is Ms. Rebecca Onie, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Health Leads, and member of the Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation External Advisory Council (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, 2014, p. 1). While her origins are not based in healthcare, her aspirations and healthcare leadership have changed the way many providers think about healthcare. As a young law student, Onie realized that there was a correlation between her clients and their healthcare. Most of her clients were poor and needed legal representation for financial issues, but there was almost always a health issue that went along with it. Drawing on this, she realized that patients, while wanting to get better, often needed more than medications to get well and stay well. So she started Health Leads. Her organization lets doctors prescribe basic needs in addition to medicines. Basic items like food, heat in the winter, and clothing. By taking these “prescriptions” and connecting patients with an already existing network of community service organizations, she was able to help patients far beyond the doctor’s office (Onie & TEDMED, 2012).
