Section 1 – Introduction
This project discovers and defines the leadership styles founded at Consulate Health Care of West Palm Beach. I would like to mention two managers in this research paper, both working for the same company but with two different leadership styles. I will be comparing and contrasting their leadership styles, as well as making some suggestions based on the information provided. This organization was recently acquired by Consulate Health Care. Before that, Tandem Group was the owner of it, where the leadership style was quite different. As of today, this facility has an Executive Director who is in charge of all operations, as well as leading and managing. Consulate Health Care of West Palm Beach has a well design hierarchy structure, and every member of it contributes to the regular operations of the facility. With the recently change of our CEO, the company has been focusing in its employees and how to lead them, instead of managing.
Section II - Background
Consulate Health Care of West Palm Beach is a rehabilitation center, where it has space for 120 residents (that is how they call their patients). The majority of these residents are long term and have been living in this facility for over two years. This branch is situated in West Palm Beach and it was open back in 1997, formerly known as Tandem Health Care. In this essay I will discuss the leadership style of 3 nursing leaders, which I chose from Nursing Leadership DVD (Orazietti & Singh, 2014). I will then describe impact the leaders ' style has on improving nursing care, organizational processes, and inter-professional collaboration. In addition, I will provide some examples of a change process or difficult situation which leaders encountered. Finally, I will explain how I have dealt with difficult situation involving my colleague and one of physician in the hospital department where I worked. Throughout this essay I will analyze what leaders should have done differently. 3 Leaders which I have chosen were Debra Bournes from group 1 because of her political and administrative success, Mina Singh from group 2 because she is renowned for her educational style at York University, and Esther Green from group 3 because she is the sound and knowledgeable practitioner.
The value and leadership skills in healthcare are both very professions are vital skills that are needed to provide everyday care (Graber, 2008). This literature review will explore the important values and leadership in health care. The review will provide the understandings of both topics. The term value can be determined by a person's standards and principles (Gaudine & Beaton, 2002). According to Grojean, Resick & Diskson (2004) leadership, is an actual way to improve patient`s. A good leader is said to reveal certain roles and behaviors that influence others in the way of positive change and direction. Viinamäki, (2009) back these same ideas but also have confidence in that there is a difference between value and leadership. They believe that leaders are viewed as individuals who can connect through motivation, visions, and inspire positive directions to generate company and organizational change. Graber (2008) impression of leadership can be understood as the capability of one person to impact the behaviors and actions of other people.
According to the dynamic culture leadership model, healthcare organizations will support services that is convenient to the community they serve. This will provide the system with an opportunity to grow. On the contrary, in the omnibus leadership model, the health care facilities need to establish organizations that administer services that can help the community in which they operates (Ongori & Shunda, 2008).
I have chosen to analyze an organization that has helped millions of individuals in Utah and Idaho with their healthcare needs, Intermountain Healthcare, (IHC). For the specific purposes of this paper I will be representing the homecare department of IHC, located in Ogden, Utah. The individual I have selected to analyze is the branch manager who is over the Ogden branch. I have selected this organization and leader as I had the opportunity to work for this company for over 3 years. I have a high level of insight and personal experience that I can bring to this paper which I feel is very advantageous. I hope to learn how to improve the organizational performance of this branch by analyzing previous management and leadership methods.
