3. LEADERSHIP THEORIES
A leadership style is a manner and attitude of a leader in which he or she provides direction, fulfills plans and motivates people. Lots of authors have brought many various leadership styles shown by leaders within the political, business or other spheres.
Leaders generating the best results use a wide range of leadership styles. “Imagine the styles, then, as the array of clubs in a golf pro’s bag,” says Goleman. “Over the course of a game, the pro picks and chooses clubs based on the demands of the shot. Sometimes he has to ponder his selection, but usually, it is automatic. The pro senses the challenge ahead, swiftly pulls out the right tool, and elegantly puts it to work. That’s how high-impact leaders operate, too.”

MAX WEBER'S THEORY
In his theory, Max Weber wrote about three types of leaders: bureaucratic, charismatic, and traditional. Weber was one among the first theorists to recognize that leadership itself was situational in nature and that effective individuals needed to move dynamically from one leadership style type to another one to stay prosperous.
Max Weber also believed that there were two basic paradigms within which leaders worked: transactions and transformations. Weber believed that transactional leaders were those who worked over the existing systems or environment to gain results. For example, he theorized that the bureaucrat is a transactional leader effective in using their knowledge or legal authority to achieve a goal.
Charismatic leaders were transformational in Max Weber's model. These individuals were almost heavenly in nature and were often compared to heroes. A transformational leader was not afraid to approach things from an entirely different viewpoint and in Weber's theory used personal charisma to help them achieve their aims.
3.2. JAMES MACGREGOR BURNS'
Leadership style is a combination of the natural qualities and manner in which a person carries out their role as a manager, along with the way they have consciously decided to perform this role. Leadership can be described as the balance between the supporting and directing team members. The key to success is knowing how to use management skills to best effect with individuals.
Having a charismatic leadership style can most often resemble and transformational leadership style. This type of leadership resembles the transformational leadership style because these leaders tend to inspire their team (www.mindtools.com). These types of leaders are enthusiastic and energetic. They like to encourage their team members and encourage them to move forward. In contrast to an autocratic leadership, they allow their staff and team members to provide suggestions and let their voices be heard. Unlike an autocratic

Leadership theories denotes to the technique that a manager accepts in order to implementation authority in the work place and be able to direct workforce towards convention the structural mandate as outlined in their job descriptions. It is the approach that a director recourses in order to discharge all the sum total of accountabilities that involves organization and managing. The theories of leadership might be categorized into, Trait theory, and Behavioral theory and Transactional & Transformational theories and Situational Theory of leadership.
Leadership can be defined as the process of identifying a goal, motivating others, and make them to achieve the mutually goals (Giltinane, 2013). According to Humphreys (2002), successful leaders do this by applying their leadership knowledge and skills. A good leadership is not only good at management, but also use different leadership styles in different situations. A successful corporation must has a good leader who have the flexible ability which can provide a suitable leadership to make the company successful. Furthermore, there have no perfect leadership styles in the world. Different leader have different leadership styles which also have the different strengths and weaknesses (Ali & Waqar, 2013). Leadership is one of those terms that get used very often, but it has a variety of meanings. The traits you use as a leader always changes depending on the time, place, and situation, and it is the good ones that knows when to make the change. Leadership also has many styles Example, do you use dictator like style, who rules with an iron fist and persecutes people with different ideas, or do you have a more democratic approach. “Every leader has a particular style of leadership that is innate. However, the behaviors, attitudes or methods of delivery that are effective for one staff member may in fact be counterproductive for another,” says Michael Burke, account supervisor, MSR Communications, a public relations firm. “Great leaders are aware of their own style and make the effort to learn how their style actually comes across to their team. They learn to flex their leadership style to individual team members so that they communicate and behave in ways that motivate and inspire.”
Transformational and servant leadership are rooted in the study of charismatic leadership. An early conceptual model of "charismatic leadership" has been closely linked with the work of Max Weber, who described the leader as a charismatic person who exercised power through followers' identification with and belief in the leader's personality. Both transformational and servant leadership are both inspirational and moral.
Leadership is, and always has been, a vital aspect of social and economic constructs. It is essential to the survival of societies, industries, organizations, and virtually any group of individuals that come together for a common purpose. However, leadership is difficult to define in a single, definitive sense. As such, theories of leadership, what constitutes a great leader, and how leaders are made have evolved constantly throughout history, and still continue to change today in hopes of improving upon our understanding of leadership, its importance, and how it can be most effective in modern organizational cultures.
There are many theories that explain leadership. Chapter 10 presents each of the leading theories. Each student will choose one of the theories he/she agrees with, one theory that he/she disagrees with, and one theory he/she finds interesting (pick three different theories). Each student will write a short paragraph for each of the above choices (agree, disagree, interesting). Each student will post his/her three paragraphs as one (1) response to the discussion board entitled “Leadership”.
Trait theories were first of the four most common leadership theories. The foundation of trait theory is; leaders are born with the innate ability to lead. In essence, leadership traits are inherent in the genetic makeup of an individual and are natural, not learned predispositions. On the contrary, current research has found leadership traits to be external behaviors emerging from development of cognitive discipline and knowledge growth.
A leader who is someone who leads. They are responsible for showing their followers a path and helping them along the way. There are several different types of leadership styles ranging from democratic to laissez-faire. Styles of leadership are important in the success and failure of the leaders. One style that has been around since the early empires is authoritarian leadership.
Leadership is defined in many different ways. Most definitions include having “power, influence, followership, dynamic personality, charisma, goals, autocratic behavior, innovation, cleverness, warmth and kindness” (Curtis, de Vries, & Sheerin, 2011, p.1). People with different personalities often have different leadership styles. These styles include servant, transformational, and autocratic.
This theory is based on the premise that there are certain personality characteristics that are essential for a person to possess in order to be a leader. The main emphasis is on what the person is in terms of a constellation of personality traits. This theory searches for that set of universal leadership traits that will assure success. Numerous traits have been suggested: courage, integrity, loyalty, charisma, ambition, intelligence, honesty, clairvoyance, persistence, arrogance, health, political skill, confidence and vision.
Leadership is much more complex than most individuals tend to realize. Most people hear the word leadership and automatically think management. But leadership encompasses more than just an authoritative role. There are many different leadership styles which a leader could choose to model. The type of leadership which seems to be most effective is transformational leadership. Transformational leadership inspires followers to challenge themselves, rather than having one person dictate the process.
