Neglect by others Neglect by others means when someone knowing is ignoring and/or with holding physical or medical care. Signs: Not getting enough food, stopping you accessing medical help. Correct action to take if you suspect an individual is being abused. In an emergency, if you think the person is being abused and is at the risk of being harmed and needs immediate police protection, call the police 999 or contact adult social care helpline on 0300 200 1005 or child line 0800 111 11.
