There are a multitude of different learning styles, the highly-Recognized ones being Visual, Aural, Verbal Physical, Logical, Social and Solitary Learning. It is imperative for teachers, especially young teacher who may lack experience to understand the dynamics of all these different learning styles. It is also important for teachers to be flexible in their lesson plans and overall teaching strategy’s because not all of your students will learn best from the same teaching styles and no one student will use just one teaching style. There are three main factors which can determine an individual’s learning style, personal ability, past learning experiences, and the instructional environment. Visual learning is a form of learning in which …show more content…
Aural learners also have a tendency in their study habits. (institution for learning styles research, Nov. 14 2015, “aural learning”) Most aural learners do very well in study groups, make rhymes to help them remember dates, names and facts, use audio tapes or audio books for assistance. Verbal learners are students who learn most efficiently though the use of words, both verbally and in written instructions. Verbal learners tend to learn best through public speech, debates, presentations and usually prefer lecture style class. Students who lean towards this style of learning tend to have a willingness to want to read, learn new words with ease, prefer written or spoken word lessons more so than hands on forms of learning. Verbal learners are often good listeners and good a following direction (advanogy.com, 2004). These students also have a well-developed memory and can recall spoke material efficiently. Students who learn best through verbal learning can learn language well and tend to enjoy learning languages. Verbal learners tend to comprehend math word problems better the solving equations because the use of words that appeals to their learning needs, they also tend to enjoy drama classes, debates, language and journalism. Physical learners are students who learn best through movement. These students prefer to patriciate in hands on
The Education Planner learning style quiz identified myself as a auditory learner in which I do agree. I constantly find myself speaking or reading out loud in my head the words that I type and or write down. I prefer to watch informational clips or videos instead of reading manuals or books that describe the information.
Whether you believe learning styles are a myth or fact they still can help you learn the material for class. Just because you take this test online and it says that you are one hundred percent auditory learner doesn’t mean you can’t learn other ways. Learning styles can help you discover more creative ways for you to remember a topic or specific details. How Amy made a poster it helped her present her topic but also helped her learn and remember her topic. By writing it down and being creative you will remember the topic a lot better. I’m not a firm believer in learning styles but I do think that they can help. I am an auditory learner so listening helps me learn although it isn’t the only way I can learn. One of the ken talks we had watched
On the other hand the learning style I use the least is auditory. With auditory learners you learn best through hearing and listening. I can say I agree with this, honestly when it comes to lecture based classes I find myself thinking about something different or thinking how I can teach myself when I get home in a different way. Auditory learners like to listen, so when studying they read their flashcards or notes out loud versus me who has to see the card and try to think back of what I did with my hands that will help me remember
Auditory learners, on the other hand, learn best through lectures, listening to the teacher explain the concept and following a set of instructions. Auditory learners learn best in a classroom environment, allowing for classroom debate upon a topic. This debate allows for multiple different approaches to a concept to be put forth until the one the learner prefers is found. An auditory learner would learn best from hearing the concept and then going over it again out loud to
For years, there have been many theorists who have shared their views on how individuals learn. Such research has determined that individuals have different learning styles. It is important for teacher to understand the learning styles of both themselves and their students because it helps them to relay the subject knowledge to the students. The teacher is in a position where they must be able to assess the learning styles of their students. This means that the students and teachers are both in a process of learning.
A learning style is a particular way in which the mind receives and processes information. There are four types of Learning Styles: Visual (Sight), Auditory (Talk), Tactile (Hands-on),, and . I am an auditory learner which means I'm a talker. My weak learning style is
notes, they will either write it in a different color or they will take detailed notes and go back and highlight the important factors. To help a visual learner organize information they sometimes use a Mind Map. A mind map guide is centered on the topic and includes branches for each related idea. Visual learners learn by seeing. When writing and drawing what they are visualizing, this helps them retain and better process the information being taught. An auditory learner is when a person learns by speaking and hearing. An auditory learner learns best through lectures. Unlike
Fleming (2005) stated that people can be grouped into four styles of learning: (Gravells, 2012), Visual, Aural, Read / Write and Kinaesthetic (VARK), with Honey and Mumford (1992) suggesting that learners are a...
i. Understanding the learners learning styles can make my course to be engaging. Flemming (1987) noted three different styles of learning; visual, kinaesthetic and aural. In order to know which method(s) to use to benefit my students the first lesson on my course will centre around discussions on what they already know, the resources they are familiar with, and a learning style questionnaire which will provide me with information on preferred learning styles. Effectiveness can also be enhanced if I adapt my teaching style to give maximum benefit to learners.
“Just as students have different personalities, they also have different ways of learing (Slavin, 107).” Learning styles are another important factor to incorporate when implementing the best learning environment. Learning styles are defined as an individual's mode of gaining knowledge. The most common learning styles addressed are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Auditory leaners understand information through hearing. Visual learners need more visual aids in the learning process, such as diagrams, webs, or pictures. Kinesthetic learners learn better by using manipulatives or by being physically involved in the learning process. Learning styles is a piece of the “backbone” of differentiated learning. Both are used to individualize instruction to help students achieve the most success.
Becoming a teacher comes with many responsibilities which include making sure that a student is comprehending the material being taught. Every student it different, therefore every student learns differently and processes information differently. After reading and knowing more about the different learning styles I have come to the conclusion that I am an auditory learner. To this day I had never thought about the way I learned things, when it was time to study for a test I would just do whatever would help me remember the information. Now after reading about the many learning styles I can relate myself with being an auditory learner. I find myself understanding something better by having a discussion about it with someone. Being able to talk about what I’ve learned helps me remember the material and I usually enjoy class discussions because it gives me the opportunity to speak up about what I do and do not understand. I tend to say things aloud, there is sense of reassuring in hearing myself say aloud what I am studying. It gives me the reassurance that I know the material and hearing things in my own words helps me
There are many different learning styles, but I’m an auditory learner. To start off with, making sure I listen is very helpful. By getting my ears checked often. It can help in the future. To continue with, reading out loud helps. By just reading out loud helps me be a better reader.Even reading test questions can help me better understand what the question is asking. Additionally, sitting close to the board help so I can hear more clearly. By sitting closer to the teacher I can improve on more things. All in all, now that I know my style I can become a better learner.
These students will most likely move their lips silently when reading. Classes that are taught in a lecture type style will be most beneficial for these learners. To retain information these students will repeat their notes over and over out loud. Auditory learners will most likely have a talent in music by being able to better hear different pitches of sound and tunes (Duker, 1971). Memorizing songs will come easily to them and they may find themselves memorizing their lessons in the form of some melody in their head. These students will be most likely be at ease when they have to put their ideas in form of a speech and will be better at explaining their ideas out loud than writing them down on paper.
Auditory learners retain new information best by hearing it. They to read out loud and will listen to a lecture rather than reading the text. They prefer the speaking on the phone than face-to-face conversation. They are easily distracted by noises. Auditory learners are not able to color coordinate their clothes, but they can explain what they are wearing and why.
Visual learners best remember what they have seen. These children tend to remember faces instead of names, and are good readers and have good imaginations. They respond best to instructions that include reading, posters, graphs and videos.
